First was the group process. The students were split into groups of 8. The group was
sent inside a conference room and we were asked to sit according to our register
numbers.

The first Group Task was to critically analyze a cartoon strip. We were given two
cartoons by R. K. Laxman.

After this the second task was a Case Study.

Each task was of 20 mins.

After the 2 tasks we were asked to wait in the waiting lounge.
4 out of the 8 were shortlisted for the next stage.

The chosen 4 had to write an essay.

The topic given was "Why do you want to do MBA”… “what are your plans and
goals”… “How would a MBA degree help you achieve your goals”

Essay duration was 20 mins.

After that we were taken one by one for the interview.

First we had a GD. There were two rounds of it. First round had a cartoon strip or it
could be a video clip depending

On the availability of projector I guess. In my case it was two cartoon strips given
and we had to analyze one of it.

The team has to reach a consensus on which cartoon to choose without voting.

The paper had two R.K Laxman cartoons on it ...we were supposed to decide as a
group as to which cartoon we wanted to discuss and then go about discussing that
cartoon..... the first cartoon was of two ppl standing in front of a small house in a
village and saying to each other "Do you know that it has been discovered that he
lives inside his known sources of income.How is that possible ?"...

The second cartoon depicted a road full of cars in a city moving bumper to bumper
and a few people crossing the road with great difficulty moving between the cars…
one of those ppl was holding the pedestrian crossing board and saying the real place
of this is not on the sidewalk....

The results were announced for the GD and the selected candidates had to go in for
the essay and PI.

Then there was an essay more like an sop of Y MBA and what are your long term
goals.

After which we had the document verification and then the interview.

Interview was more on the HR lines…Where I was aksed abt my career objectives…
my personality related questions… a lot on my work ex…

So that wasn't really stressful… that was the kind of interview most of the guys had
in Chennai….

The gd model was same as that of IMT. It was a 12 member group.

Two topics were given and we were asked to discuss and select one.

The topic the group settled for was, "Government should step in and stop all
coaching classes." The other option was something like, "To survive (or was it
succeed????) in today's world u need to be a hypocrite."

The GD was for a total of 20 mins. First 15 mins were to discuss the topic and the
next 5 mins in which each one of us had to summarize.

We were allowed to give our own opinion also during the summary. There were 2
moderators. I was the first person in the group and i got an edge seat in the U
shaped seating set up plus there were 3 or 4 people in the group with booming
voices. So i wasnt able to make an impression in the gd. Whatever lil time i got came
at the most unexpected moments and i was caught off-guard. So I can say that the
gd wasnt such a big success for me. also, as soon as the 15 mins got over, they
asked me, the first person, to summarize. All others got a bit more of time to frame
their summaries.

Interview

We had submitted a biographical sketch of 250 words and another writeup about
work experience and all. there were many qns from those two.

The panel had a lady and a guy. They were friendly. Again, I was the first person in
my group to be interviewed. The interview went on smoothly.

Interviewer: Tell us abt urself.

Me: I gave an introduction.

Int: In ur biosketch u had mentioned u write. wot do u write. r u published?

Me: i have written for school and college magazines and once in paper too. i also
write poems and publish them online in a site called the critical poet where they give
me critical reviews of my work.

Int: ok. in the bio u have mentioned that u have done a lot of event management.

can u tell us abt any one event u have managed?

Me: I went on to describe the event i managed as part of my school arts festival,
LaFest.

Int: ok. wot abt the financial aspect of event management?

Me: I told them abt it too. i told them i have taken part in fund collection campaigns
for events too.

Int: How do u sell of ur event to the donor? how do u convince him that he will
benefit from it?
Me: All the events i had been part of were already big names. so there wasnt much
difficulty in convincing ppl. but still we go around with a beautifully designed
brochure. we tell them abt the expected crowd size and the age group and that we
will be hanging up banners for them etc. basically we convince them that it will be a
boost for their business.

Int: how do u go abt managing an event? wot r the steps?

Me: we first sit down and refer at records suggesting how the event has been like
over the years. we sit down and think abt how our event must be different from
them. then we frame the rules etc. i went on to elaborate using LaFest as an eg.

Int: ok. where r u currently working?

Me: cts

Int : u joined just 4 mths ago and now already u want to join mba. why is it so?
Me: mba is wot i always wanted to do. i tried for it last yr too. but then i cudnt do so
well for my entrance exams. so i knew i had to wait for one more yr. in the
meantime i had this job. i find IT interesting though mba is my real passion. so i
decided to spend one year working and preparing for mba at the same time. thats
wot i have done.

Int: ok. tell us something abt ur work experience so far and the current work u r
doing.
Me: i described it in detail.

Int: ok. tell me any 3 headlines from todays paper.

Me: I didnt read the paper today. (We had to report at 8 am in the morning.)

Int: its fine. tell me 3 from yest.

Me: We didnt receive paper yest. (that was a low point. i hadnt read the paper
actually.)

Int: then tell us something from the past one week or 10 days.
Me: I was able to tell them that.

Int: do u follow the stock market?

Me: No. I dont have much of an idea abt the stock market.

Int: ok. u have listed out so many hobbies. i find u as a person who will just jump
from one thing to the other.
Me: i am passionate abt each of those things i mentioned. but i realize my limitations
too. for eg, i draw really well, but i cant paint. but i like doing those things.

Int: apart from ur hobbies, wot r ur pastimes?

Me: i play cricket, listen to music, hang out with friends etc.

Int: u have said u write. wot abt ur reading habits?

Me: i like reading books but i am not a voracious reader by any means. i read any
book which i come across, but i generally dont go chasing a particular book.

Int: Wot branch of mba wud u prefer?

Me: Marketing.

Int: why marketing?

Me: i must admit that i dont have a deep knowledge of these branches. but from
those fund-raising days when i was able to sell off the event to potential donors, i
have realized that i do have marketing skills to attract people into an investment.

Int: ok rakesh. Good luck.

Me: Thank u Ma'm and Sir.

The interviewer shook hands with me and the interview came to a close. It lasted for
nearly 20 mins and was pleasant. i wasnt asked any questions from electrical engg
which was my subject at college. But the candidates who followed were quizzed on
their branch too...but mostly it was for electronics guys.
