Case Number 23-11-2009-095308-001 23-11-2009-132546-001

Date Due 21/12/2009 22/12/2009

Request Summary I would like to map the war pension receipt holders for Wales according to Local Authority. Also, if it is known, a ratio of ex-servicemen to people in receipt of a war pension that would be helpful. I'm researching the history of ex Army Land Rover registration 41 KF 49. I have obtained the Merlin Management Information (MMI) from the MOD. I know it was issued to 42 Engineer Regt from 04/10/1988 and served with them until January 1996 where it went to 14 Indep Torpographic Sqn on IFOR Operation Resolute. Very early on it was fully painted in Desert colour inside and out, I was hoping to find out any deployments / exercises 42 Engineers were involved with between 04/10/1988 - 11/01/1996. I haven't got anything for between those dates, any information provided would be a massive help in completing the history, even if it explains why it was painted in Desert colours! In the years around 1970, I was engaged in a project called Linesman, to develop a Computer-Based (QuasiAutonomous) System for the Air Defence of the UK Air Space. A review of the project was chaired by Air-Vice Marshall Moulton and the outcome of the review (known as the Moulton Report) was issued, classified. I request information about the availability of the Moulton Report, and permission to publish information about the software for the Radar Data Processing System in Linesman (for which I was given responsibility following the acceptance of the Moulton Report). I also request information about the availability of further information about the impact of the Linesman Project. The completed system was demonstrated at West Drayton on 18th December 1973, and the closing report for the RDPS software control meeting was dated July 1973. A full and unabridged copy of SOTNUSAFE Operators Emergency Arrangements as controlled by the Naval Base Commander (Portsmouth), current version with Annexes, as this applies to the public areas beyond the Exclusion Zone which for SotonSafe is taken to be submarine itself. The manufacture and type of the personal dosimeter issued with the 'Grab Bag' referred to in Section 6.2 of SotonSafe. If a universal setting is preset to all issued grab bag personal dosimeters then the preset alarm level, or if the preset is issue group specific, then the presets applied to those dosimeters issued to each group or organisation involved in the response (ie HFRS, SCAST, etc). I am writing to ask for copies of the documents you hold which the Information Commissioner's Office ordered to be disclosed in Decision Notice FS50137246. The list of documents I am asking for is set out in that Decision Notice at Annex 2. I would like to see: (1) Any documents relating to the June 2002, l planning conference held with US Central Command , Britain and Australia to discuss war plans for Iraq. (2) Any documents relating to General Tommy Franks August 2002 discussions with British officials relating to war planning for Iraq I seek information: In 2003, Sir Michael Lyons recommended the Government relocate 20,000 jobs from London to the regions. Afghanistan, transfer of districts to local control: Details of (a) The criteria being used to access whether a District can be handed over or should it be free from Taliban insurgents and their influence, and should local officials be free from corruption? (b) How the situation will be assessed in the 80% - 90% of the Districts outside the scope of NATO forces eg is there adequate intelligence feedback from British and other NATO embassies and sources to provide a realistic picture of how far such District is free from Taliban influence and corruption? In his Mansion House speech on 16 November the Prime Minister expressed the hope that Districts in Afghanistan would start to be transferred to local control in 2010. My understanding is that not more than 10%-20% of all Districts in Afghanistan are currently under the control of British and other NATO forces. I would therefore appreciate the details of: (a). The criteria being used to assess whether a District can be handed over - eg should it be free from Taliban insurgents and their influence, and should local officials be free from corruption? (b). Between 1966 and 1971 I was a young airman working in Bomber Command and then Strike Command. I was employed in electronics on Vulcan aircraft at RAF Scampton, and then at No. 112 Signals Unit, RAF Stornoway. Vulcans were retired from RAF service in the mid eighties, 112 Signals Unit was disbanded in about 1987, the Cold War ended in about 1990, and RAF Stornoway closed in about 1999. I have now returned to live near Stornoway, and would like to know whether secrecy still attaches to the Vulcan bomber and the functions and activities of 112 Signals Unit and of the RAF camp at Aird Uig, in the West of the Isle of Lewis.
