2. A housewife made fruit pickles using unripe mango.

During the preparation, she placed the mango slice in water and later placed them in sugar solution. When the mango slice were in water, it was found that, the slice become turgid and their sizes increased. But when they were placed in the sugar solution, the slices become soft and shrunken. Based on the above situation, plan a laboratory experiment to determine the concentration of sucrose which is isotonic to the cell sap of the mango. The planning of the experiment should cover the following aspects : Problem statement Aim of investigation Hypothesis Variables List of apparatus and materials Technique used Experimental procedure or method Presentation of data Conclusion (17 marks)

Question 2 (Scheme) Score 3 1. Problem statement Explanation Able to state the problem statement correctly. Sample answer : 1. How does the difference concentration of sucrose affect the mass/length of mango tissue? 2. What is the concentration of sucrose solution which is isotonic to the cell sap of mango tissue? Able to state the problem statement of identified problem but incorrect Sample answer : 1. What is the effect of concentration of sucrose solution? 2. What is the mass/length of mango tissue? Able to state the idea only Sample answer : Sucrose solution affect the mass/length of mango tissue? Remarks Tick MV-concentration of sucrose solution RV-final mass/length MV @ RV only

2. Aim of study Sample answer Able to state the objective of investigate correctly. 1. To study the concentration of sucrose solution which is isotonic to the cell sap of mango tissue. 2. To study effect of difference concentration of sucrose to the mass/length of mango tissue

Remarks Must use any solution/plant cell

3. Making Hypothesis Score Explanation 3 Able to state the hypothesis correctly by relating two variables correctly Sample answer : 1. When concentration of sucrose solution which is isotonic to the cell sap of mango tissue, there is no gain in size/mass/length 2. The higher the concentration of sucrose solution, the less the size/mass/length of mango tissue Able to state the hypothesis slightly incorrect. Sample answer; 1. The isotonic solution has no effect on the plant cell sap on the mass/length of mango tissue. 2. The difference of concentration of sucrose solution influence the final mass/length of mango tissue. Able to state the idea only Sample answer: 1. The concentration of sucrose solution affect the plant cell sap No response or wrong response
