Summary Diabetes is the most common non-communicable disease worldwide and it is a chronic condition in which the body is unable

to effectively use the insulin produced by the pancreas or the pancreas fails to produce enough insulin, which enables cells to take in glucose from the blood, resulting in hyperglycemia or too much sugar in the blood. Diabetes Philippines chairman and president Dr. Tommy Ty-Willing stated that It is becoming a global health issue. There is a collective effort of diabetes advocacy and awareness groups in countering the escalating health threats posed by the disease. Diabetes can be prevented if early awareness can be recognized. Thirty minutes of exercise a day can reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by as much as 40 percent. Brisk walking, dancing, swimming, and cycling are recommended, but not jogging or running. There is also a diabetes myth that needs to be busted, such as the popular belief that those with diabetes should not eat rice. The fact is, they can, but they just need to control and limit the amount. Can food supplements cure diabetes? No, it does not cure, but diabetes can be controlled with medication. Sweeteners can also be used in diabetes patients but with certain moderation. Active lifestyle, healthy diet, and knowledge of the disease can help people prevent diabetes. Reflection For me, this journal can help us prevent the occurrence for the reason that diabetes can occur if certain factors will be tolerated such as sedentary lifestyle, vices, and unhealthy diet. People nowadays tend to neglect the fact that diabetes can occur anytime if they tolerate unhealthy lifestyle. If this will continue, people will suffer from the symptoms of diabetes and will continue to worsen their condition. As a student nurse, I must have certain knowledge on the disease in order to recognize the proper nursing intervention that I will implement to my patient. Also, health teaching is a must in order to educate and give awareness to the patient, my family and also to the public. Prevention is better than cure, thus tolerating active lifestyle, cessation of vices, and healthy diet can support against diabetes. We know that these steps are easy to practice but hard to apply in reality.
