3.2. Screen
The large easy to read screen is divided into 3 sections to help keep track of your progress. The upper left box displays your Total Count [1] and increases each time a handle is pressed. The upper right box displays both the Present force (last recorded) [4] and also the unit of measurement selected- either kg or lb [5]. Both of the upper areas on the screen will always show a score until cleared. The lower box (main section) displays detail which relates to current scores/force applied. The Modes [2] are displayed on the left whilst the Sound Alert feature [6] is on the right side of the screen. When force is applied to Jym your score is displayed in the centre [7]. Your current force is also graphically displayed below [3] using dots to show how much force you apply. Each set of 2 dots represent 10kg/22lb and increases when the force increases.
Basic Operation
6. Operating Jym
6.1. Using Jym with the default settings
When Jym is switched on the default target value is set to zero, the unit measurement is Kilograms, the mode is set to Present Force and the Sound is switched on.
As you should only ever workout at 80% of your maximum ability (so as to not strain yourself) you should determine your optimum strength target. Squeeze the handle with no more than 80% strength in your desired exercise movement, for example hand grip or thigh press. Use this force score as a reference for general exercise and setting targets. If you want to keep your workout simple use the default settings and keep track of your force and count by using the two upper areas of the screen. Press [CLR] to clear the screen when you want to reset these views to zero. If you get lost at any time and want to restore the original default settings remove and re-insert the batteries. This will completely clear all scores and targets taking you back to the default screen. Refer to section 6.4. for more information.
Alternatively if you are setting a target in the Hold mode follow the above steps to set a force target then you will be required to set a time target. To do this toggle up [ ] or down [ ] to select your time and press the [ENTER] button to set the target. You are now ready to exercise. To maximise your workout potential and keep track of your progress use the Jym Progress Chart. An example of this can be found on page 15 or visit www.jym.me to print your own.
6.3. Sound
When a target is set in one of Jyms modes and the user reaches this target the screen will flash and the unit will beep if the sound setting is selected. If in the Timer mode the Sound feature will also alert the user at differing intervals when counting down. To turn the sound On/Off press the Sound Button [ ]. This is displayed on the screen by a musical note when switched on and with a line crossed though it when switched off [ ]. Using the Sound function is especially useful when doing an exercise where you cannot see the screen or when you have trouble seeing what is displayed.
6.4. Clear/Reset
When you press the [CLR] button once the data displayed on the screen is cleared and if you have been exercising with a target it will allow you to complete that target again. When you press and hold [CLR] for 3 seconds ALL data will be reset. To completely reset the unit and restore the default settings simply remove and re-insert the batteries.
7. Modes
For details on how to set targets using the force modes below please refer to section 6.2. Selecting a Mode & Setting Targets.

target you set. Use this mode as part of your daily routine to easily monitor your fitness progress. Tip: To make the most of this mode you can also calculate your average force to see how you are improving. Divide the Accumulated force of your workout via the number of grips shown at the top of the screen - this will give you your average force during your routine.
