Pneumatics, hydraulics, programmable logic control (PLC) and mechanical transmission systems are all widely used technologies in todays manufacturing industries. Each of these areas require a well-trained and multi-skilled workforce. Feedbacks range of Mechatronics trainers adds a new and affordable dimension to the engineering training of those preparing for or working in these areas.

The Mechatronics range of equipment has been developed by engineering trainers for engineering trainers and lecturers, with safety, ease-of-use and cost-effectiveness as prime considerations. Portability and space efficiency have been carefully considered, too, as the range is available in different configurations to allow for transporting and stowage. Industry specification components are used throughout.

To complement the laboratory and workshop equipment, extensive training material is provided. All the courseware is based around genuine industrial products and practical applications, providing appropriate content to cover school, college, university and industrial level training. Experience has shown that circuit construction is important to re-inforce basic principles of component identification and understanding of circuit operation. The easy-mounting system, quick-fit pneumatic tubing, leak-free hydraulic fittings and safe, shrouded electrical connectors mean that circuit construction issues across the range are as simplified as they can be, leaving maximum time for experimentation, observation and analysis. Each technology in the range comes in a variety of packages covering a range of levels. The Pneumatic systems vary from introductory Tutor Kits to larger and more elaborate sets of components. Circuits use calibrated 4mm tubing and quick release, push-in fittings. The cylinders and control valves used are exactly the same as those found in the manufacturing, production and packaging industries. The electro-pneumatic systems use industry standard 24V relays and control valve solenoids (with LED indicators). The addition of the most widely-used commercial PLCs (Mitsubishi, AllenBradley and Siemens) make the range particularly useful to those working in industry or preparing to. The Hydraulic systems offer a similar range of kits and levels and use the same components as are found in industry. For ease of circuit construction, the remarkable flat-face, self-seal, leakage-free, quick-connect couplings make life simple. No system priming is needed. The Mechanical Transmission Trainer provides a variety of fully working components to demonstrate belt, chain and solid drives, transmissions and couplings on a work-table with full industrial safety facilities.

Tutor Kits Pneumatics, Electro-Pneumatics, P.L.C. & Hydraulics

The Feedback range of Mechatronics Tutor Kits has been specifically designed to give practical and in-depth knowledge of Pneumatics, ElectroPneumatics, Programmable Logic Control (P.L.C.) and Hydraulics, preparing students for further/higher education and entry into industry. All components used in the tutor kits are genuine industrial items to give maximum exposure and familiarisation with the relevant technology. Each component is clearly marked with its appropriate ISO 1219-1 fluid power symbol. Pneumatic connections are made by means of push-in quick connect/release industrial fittings - no tools being required. To make a connection, tubing is simply pushed into a fitting. Disconnection of the tubing is achieved by depressing the push-ring fitting and pulling out the tubing. Electrical connections use shrouded plugs and sockets throughout, for added safety. Hydraulic connections utilise quick-connect, self-seal couplings, for minimal leakage. Fully operational Pneumatic, Electro-pneumatic, P.L.C. and Hydraulic circuits can be constructed both quickly and easily, without the need for tools. This allows maximum time for experimentation and analysis of results and gives students all-round practical experience, raising their interest and, typically, their success. Each Tutor Kit is supplied in a stylish aluminium-framed, heavy-duty, lockable storage/transit case. This keeps all components tidy and secure and allows easy storage and safe transportation, if required. Comprehensive user manuals are supplied with the kits. These introduce the theory, explain the operation of each type of component, then introduce a series of practical exercises that build up to utilise all parts of the Tutor Kit with real-world applications.

The system can be used to achieve present day requirements and being modular is easy to expand to meet any future needs that may arise. In addition to standard manual and mechanically operated pneumatic controls the system can also be utilised for electro-pneumatic, sensoric controls, P.L.C.s and related technologies, important subjects when undertaking multi-skilling type training. A very extensive range of both pneumatic and electrical components are available, all of which are supplied complete and ready for use. The pneumatics/electro-pneumatics training system is ideally suited to achieve the practical requirements of fluid power training courses at minimal capital outlay. Complete packages of courseware and teachware, including purpose designed practical exercises, for both pneumatics and electro-pneumatics, are also available to fully support the training hardware. A total system can therefore be supplied that is ready to use without the need for precious development time, allowing for systems from simple pneumatic through to complex P.L.C. control. When required for portable use the the components can be supplied aluminium framed transit case. equipment safe and secure, whilst creating a professional image. training panel and in a heavy-duty, This keeps the at the same time

Laboratory trolley-based systems with large circuit building panel, 36-001 to 003
Ergonomically designed with user friendliness in mind. Extremely rugged yet attractive enough to be used in any training facility. Being mounted on castors, the trolleys are easy to move but narrow enough to pass through standard doorways. Components are stored in built-in lockable equipment storage cabinets (5 drawer true CNC steel tool cabinets). All connections are made on the front of the circuit building panel via push-in fittings for pneumatics and shrouded plugs and sockets for electrical connections. Components are quickly and easily mounted on the circuit building panel there is no need for tools. Connections are made using push-in fittings. The complete assembly, test and disassembly of circuits is therefore rapid, easy and efficient, which maximises the training time available when putting the theory into practice. Laboratory trolleys are available in either doublesided or single-sided and in both mobile and static versions. Double-sided versions have two equipment storage cabinets, while single-sided versions have one cabinet.

36-601

Double-sided trolleys are more space-efficient and cost-effective where larger student groups are eexpected. In addition, low noise compressors can be supplied which fit within the A frame of the circuit building panels (one for a single-sided unit; one or two for a double-sided unit). The large circuit building panels are also available as separate items, either with or without integral electrical distribution (+/-) connections.

Portable (transit/storage case-based) systems with compact circuit building panel

Also ergonomically designed, but with strength, compactness and lightweight in mind. Even so they are still extremely rugged to withstand the rigours of everyday use and transportation. The compact design allows the units to be easily used in different training rooms, or even different facilities (at geographically different locations), thereby making them very cost effective. This system has been specifically designed for those who offer In-house training and are therefore constantly on the move. When not in use the transit/storage, cases are easily stored requiring only minimal space, thus making them ideal where rooms or laboratories are used for multi-tasking. Transit/storage cases (750mm x 600mm 130mm) are lockable - this can be an important feature when transportation is by a third party. When in use, the lid of the case is detachable and contains the circuit building panel (compact version 700mm x 550mm). In this way, the circuit building panel can be placed next to the case base that contains the components. The compact circuit building panels are also available as separate items.

Hydraulics, electro-hydraulics and proportional hydraulics are essential aspects of preparation or training for mechanical, electrical or crossdiscipline engineers. As with pneumatic systems, these cost-effective hydraulics trainers have been developed in the UK to meet the varied needs of educational and industrial training environments. The following cost-effective options are available: 1) 2) 3) Laboratory trolley based systems with full size circuit building panel. Portable systems, in a transit/storage case with compact circuit building panel. Stand-alone circuit building panel (either full size or compact). There is no need for development time and the easy assembly allows maximum opportunity to carry out assignments and analysis from simple hydraulics through to complex P.L.C. control. If required for portable use, the training panel and the components can be supplied in heavy duty, aluminium-framed transit cases, for safe transit and storage.

In addition to standard manual and mechanically operated hydraulic controls, the system can also be utilised for electro-hydraulic, proportional hydraulic, sensoric controls, PLCs and related technologies. All of these are important subjects when undertaking cross-disciplinary courses and multi-skilling type training. A very extensive range of both hydraulic and electrical components is available. All items are supplied complete and ready for use. The hydraulics/electro-hydraulics trainers are ideally suited to achieve the practical requirements of fluid power training courses and laboratory sessions, but with minimal capital outlay. Complete packages of courseware and teachware, including purpose designed practical exercises, for both hydraulics, electro-hydraulics and proportional hydraulics are also available to provide full support for the training hardware.

Hydraulics Trainers 36-010- & 36-011

The hydraulics laboratory trainers from the Feedback Mechatronics range have been ergonomically designed and developed to teach hydraulics, electro-hydraulics, proportional hydraulics and programmable logic control (PLC) of hydraulics. With these systems, both the principles and circuitry can be studied for the various technologies. They are mobile but at the same time extremely rugged, yet attractive enough to be used in any training facility. All of the components are authentic, industrial units, mounted on plug-in baseplates. Each item can be quickly and easily mounted on the circuit building panel using a push-fit with -turn fastener. This removes the risk of components coming adrift from the panel, though the grid of mounting holes allows an almost limitless number of possible circuit layouts. The trolleys are mounted on castors and are very manoeuvrable (they pass through standard doorways). Their laminated worktops promote cleanliness to minimise risk of contamination. Components are stored in built-in, lockable equipment storage cabinets (5-drawer, true CNC steel tool cabinets). The trainers are easy to use and circuit construction is very straightforward. Each component is identified by the relevant ISO standard symbol. All hydraulic connections are made from the front of the circuit building panel, via impressive flat-face, self-seal, leakage-free, quick-connect couplings, while shrouded plugs and sockets allow safe electrical connection. All these benefits combine to allow the learner to spend the maximum amount of time on the productive activities of circuit construction, experimentation and analysis. Laboratory trolleys are available in either double-sided or single-sided in both mobile and static versions. Double-sided versions have two equipment storage cabinets, while single-sided versions have one cabinet.

Double-sided trolleys are more space efficient and cost effective where larger student groups are expected. An optional electrical extension panel is available, which can be mounted above the large circuitbuilding panel. This extension panel incorporates electrical distribution (+/-) connections and is designed for use with the electrical/electronic equipment contained in the electro- and proportional hydraulic sets.

Portable (Transit/Storage Case-based) Hydraulic systems with compact circuit building panel
The Portable Hydraulic Training System is unique and has been specifically designed with strength, compactness and lightness in mind for its mobility (can be moved by one person). Even so, this system is still extremely rugged to withstand the rigours of everyday use and regular transit between locations or from storage to laboratory. The compact design allows the units to be easily used in different training rooms, or even different buildings, making them very cost effective for organisations that offer training on-site at client premises. When not in use the transit/storage cases are easily stored requiring only minimal space, thus making them ideal where rooms or laboratories are used for multi-tasking. Transit/storage cases for the sets of components are lockable. Each storage case has a shaped foam insert to hold components securely.

Overhead Projection Transparencies (OHPs) are an essential requirement for anyone involved in the training of fluid power. To assist instructors, lecturers and teachers in this field, a range of transparencies is available to cover this important area of technology. Each set comprises a number of A4-sized transparencies, each transparency is contained in its own wallet and the set is in its own ring binder, along with users notes, which explain each transparency in the set. Component transparencies cover the items found in common use and are printed in multi-colour, with the circuits printed single colour, using relevant symbols to I.S.O. 1219-1 (Graphical Symbols for Fluid Power).

Magnetic Symbols 36-808

The design of fluid power circuits necessitates the use of complex symbols, which are connected via lines representing the pipework. To eliminate the time consuming drawing of these symbols by hand, magnetic symbols have been developed, covering the commonly used items in pneumatic circuits. When using these magnetic symbols, circuits can be designed more quickly and more easily than by conventional means. They are also more visible from a distance. The individual symbols can be arranged on a magnetic board in accordance with the circuit diagram. Lines such as pipes and hoses can then be drawn in. The method of operation of the directional control valves can be inserted in the drawing. Moving the magnetic symbol of the directional control valves results in a different valve position thereby showing the switching conditions of the various valves. The symbols are manufactured from magnetic sheet vinyl, thereby giving excellent results when used with a normal magnetic board (dry wipe or chalk finish) as well as being extremely hard wearing. The symbols conform to current I.S.O. standards (I.S.O. 1219-1 Graphical Symbols for Fluid Power). Magnetic symbols for Electro-control are also available as a separate set.

Cutaway (Sectioned) Components 36-105

Cutaway sectioned components are an excellent method of clearly explaining and demonstrating the construction, operation and function of various items of pneumatic equipment. The set comes complete in its own heavy-duty storage/transit case and comprises: Single acting cylinder (compact style) 16mm bore Single acting cylinder (traditional style) 20mm bore (ISO/VDMA 6432) Double acting cylinder 20mm bore (ISO/VDMA 6432) Double acting cylinder, adjustable cushions 32mm bore (ISO/VDMA 6431) 5/2 way Plunger/spring valve, with internal pilot (servo) assist 3/2 way Hand slide valve 3/2 way Push button/spring valve 3/2 way Pilot/spring valve 3/2 way Pilot/pilot valve 3/2 way Plunger/spring valve 5/2 way Pilot/spring valve 5/2 way Pilot/pilot valve 5/2 way Differential pilot valve 5/3 way Pilot/pilot valve 5/2 way Solenoid/spring valve Filter/pressure regulator ISO Size 1, 5 port Pilot/pilot with sub-base One-way flow control (throttle/check) valve Quick exhaust valve Shuttle valve (OR gate) Two pressure valve (AND gate)

Computer-based Training
CD-Rom-based interactive training programmes for basic pneumatics, basic hydraulics, basic electrics and basic mechanical have been developed, which typically cover 10 16 hours of instruction each. These are self-paced, high retention computer based training programmes in an easy, step-by-step format to reduce fluid power related downtime. As an example the basic pneumatics programme covers: Basic physics Compressors Air dryers Air preparation Air distribution Directional control valves Miscellaneous valves Actuators Accessory components Air line conductors Vacuum Understanding schematics
