STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM Today's competitive environment leaves no room for error. Today all the companies want to acquire more share in market. This can be done by reducing the cost and giving more quality products, which is possible by using more machines. With the rise of usage of machines the risk of accidents or the failure of machinery is also rising. Due to the advancement in technology, preventive maintenance is becoming very much popular these days. Preventive maintenance can be described as maintenance of equipment or systems before fault occurs. In my project I will study the methods used by leading cement manufacturer ACC Ltd. ACC Limited is Indias foremost manufacturer of cement and ready mix concrete with a countrywide network of factories and marketing offices ,established in 1936 ACC is already well established in the market, but there are lots of others things that have to be understood such as identifying and examining plant deficiencies. One of the main purposes is to help the organization implement procedures that will lead to efficient maintenance practices. So, in order to understand the nature of preventive maintenance of the organization, I took this preventive maintenance as a topic for my project, to give findings and suggestions by adopting and analyzing different preventive maintenance techniques.

WHY IS THE PARTICULAR TOPIC CHOOSEN The problem undertaken for the study identify and analyse the methods and tools used for preventive maintenance in ACC ltd.

The purpose of this study is to take up the issue of preventive maintenance,with particular reference to ACC ltd. There is a need to understand how the ACC ltd manage his machines and tools to avoid accidents and would therefore, like to scientifically analyse and suggest remedial measure to management if any. The study also aimed to recognize how the maintenance process affects sales & other aspects.

WHAT CONTRIBUTION WOULD THE PROJECT MAKE AND TO WHOM The result of my survey and analysis would provide a very useful input to the management of ACC ltd The project will helps and provide very useful inputs to the other organizations also who are interested in knowing the preventive maintenance process. On getting knowledge, they can implement it to solve problems in their respective fields

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES: (i) Ensuring maximum plant availability by preventing unexpected breakdowns & by reducing shutdown periods.

(ii)

Elimination of unsafe conditions that cause accidents thereby ensuring safety of the workmen.

SECONDARY OBJECTIVES: (iii) To keep all productive assets in good working condition.

(iv)

To minimize accidents through regular inspection.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
RESEARCH DESIGN

A research design is a framework for conducting the research project. It details the procedure necessary for obtaining the required information, and its purpose is to design a study that will test the hypothesis of interest, determine possible answers to research questions and provide the information needed for decision making. Formulating the research design involves the following steps:-

1. TYPE OF RESEARCH DESIGN: EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH.

Experimental Research will be used to examine the usefulness of preventive maintenance on the RMC plant & its various components.

2. METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION:

Primary data collection:

Primary data is the first hand information obtained by investigator. Primary data can be collected by observation, by interviews, by face to face questioning, by using questionnaire, when the needed data does not exist or are out-dated, inaccurate, incomplete, or unreliable.

Observation Method I purpose to use Observation Method for 15 days as a scientific tool to record the data & will subjected to checks & controls on reliability & validity

(ii) Interview Method

Interview Method shall be used to gain in depth information & the most spontaneous reactions are secured. Secondary data collection:

Secondary data is collected by others already and the researcher is using that information for his own research purpose. I will try to collect Secondary data from published reports, newspaper, websites, and journals, publications of national and international organization. I propose to get the secondary data from : : (i) (ii) Maintenance Register Check Lists

3. Sample Description

AREA OF STUDY/SCOPE The study will be conducted at canteen ACC Ltd

(a) Method of sample selection (ii) Non-Probability sampling Non-Probability sampling method will be used for sample selection as the items are selected deliberately which included all the units of RMC plant. (b) Size of sample. The sample includes 8 elements viz., the compressor, mixer & other components of RMC plant etc.
