Our weather seems to have noticed the calendar! It is Fall, the temperatures are warm and sunny and the evenings have a hint of coolness that reminds us there will be a colder season to follow. And so it is with our church, or congregational life. In many ways, I have just arrived here and yet the calendar says otherwise. The climate reminds us that I have been with you now for a bit, I know some names and some stories. Yet, just as those cool evenings remind us that there is another season to come, knowing you and calling you by name reminds us that we have further to go together. Cottage meetings are finishing up. I will be getting out in the community and meeting some of our community leaders. We are beginning our stewardship program this month. This program gives us opportunity to learn Extravagant Generosity together in ministry. How is it that we support our church building, our congregation, our community, and the missional opportunities beyond? How is it that our gifts of time, talents, money and possessions make disciples for Christ to transform this world? The church leadership also shifts focus from welcoming and leading me as the pastor to more visioning and turning to the future as, together, we seek Gods direction for our congregation. The teams, ministries and committees of the church ask - What are we to be doing and seeking to be faithful to our mission? to Prayerfully: seek God, grow in faith, love and serve others for the transformation of lives So I ask you as an individual or as a family, as you go out your door and feel the changing season and know of the seasons to come, to remember our church. Our church is changing seasons also. Pray for the church, the mission, the leadership, the teams and committees. Please pray for me as your pastor that God will speak to me and keep me faithful and ready to serve and lead for each season with love of God and love of neighbor in my heart. Pray for our community that our church may serve the hands and feet of Christ to others. Pray for yourself and your family that God would lay upon your heart a ministry to seek and serve others, and would set a deep yearning in your heart to seek God and Gods ways. I wish you Gods blessing in each of your days, Pastor Emily

Tell those rich in this worlds wealth to quit being so full of themselves and so obsessed with money, which is here today and gone tomorrow. Tell them to go after God, who piles on all the riches we could ever manage - to do good, to be rich in helping others, to be extravagantly generous. If they do that, theyll build a treasury that will last, gaining life that is truly life. 1 Timothy 6:17-19

WE CARE
Autumn is here. The Fall colors are beginning to decorate the landscape and the night air is crisp and cool. Though we enjoy these refreshing days and want them to linger...before it seems possible...the holidays will arrive. In preparation for special times in our church in December,
The We Care Teams of the First United Methodist Church of Belleville are available to make hospital calls, visits in the home and care center, send cards, make phone calls, provide food and pray for those who suffer from illness, are homebound or bereaved.
The TRUSTEES have been working on the Parsonage & grounds making improvements, changing the landscaping and replanting the lawn. New windows are in place in the dinning and living rooms on the north side of the Parsonage. Rich Schintler installed four energy efcient replacements. Jerry Richecky has repainted the interior of the two rooms; Molly Williams and "crews" are almost done on the landscaping of the front lawn. Thank you to all for your time and talents in helping complete these projects. Work has started around the church grounds to solve the problems of water drainage causing damp walls in the Food Bank downstairs and will soon be completed. The Trustees continue to receive donations towards the Kiosk, however work may not begin this year if the amount needed is not reached, soon, as weather changes are on the way. Thank you, again, to all who have given generously. Jay Kallman, Board Chair
our Handbell Choir will be meeting to practice. They will be playing at Worship on December 16th and again that evening for the annual Carols and Candles Program. I heard that Crystal did a very good job on her METour report at our last UMW meeting. Thank you, Crystal. Thank you, Carol, for residing over the meeting during my absence. Marvin and I were on a 10-day trip to Salinas, CAL to see our daughter. We also enjoyed so many of the sights on our 3,000 plus mile trip that our precious God created for us. At our Oct. 4 meeting, I will be trying to bring you some of what I received at the School of Mission I attended in Salina on the Wesleyan campus. Oct. 5, at 9:30 a.m. will be the Republic County Church Women meeting at the Am. Lutheran Church here in town. Local Food Bank items such as canned pineapple and peas, soda crackers and pudding mixes are especially needed. The offering will go to the Scholarship Fund of the Belleville After School Program. Phyllis Jensik will talk about shoes. I am so thrilled for those who decided to step forward and be officers for 2013 for our local UMW. Please keep these in your prayers and they strive to continue to lead us in the right directions: President, Carolyn Rauch; Vice-President, Carol Nicholson; Recording Secretary, Joan Grover; Treasurer, Emma Berggren; Historian, Wilma Snapp; and Membership Nurture and Outreach, Kaye Ray. I have not heard if Audrey Elyea, Kaye Ray and Linda Young are staying on as our Nominating Committee; but I hope they are. Carolyn Rauch and I (Janis Houdek) will continue to serve as representatives on Republic County Church Women Executive Committee. Wilma Snapp will continue to serve as Courtesy Chairperson. Please let her know if you know of cards that need to be sent from our UMW. I have chosen Deaconess Nan Gordon, musician in residence, Shands Arts in Medicine at the University of Florida, 3756 NW 26th Street, Gainesville, FL 32605, nanpiper@gmail.com to be our Prayer Calendar person this month. Her birthday is April 10, but that's OK, she can still be remembered by us. Here is her story - -"I was in pediatrics, playing flute at the bedside of a little boy who was unable to travel up the hall to the monthly ice cream social. As I left his room, his dad said, 'You're the best thing to happen to him all day!' Wait a minute! Better than the homemade ice cream he ate as he listened? Realizing a personal concert meant that much to a patient was the best thing that happened to me that day--even better than homemade ice cream." In Christian Love, Janis Houdek, President
Dear UMW, How wonderful to hear from you! I am blessed to have a "gig" like this to go to several times a week! If you google my email address or go onto the Shands Arts in Medicine website and look for me in the Whos Who you will also learn about my work with veterans, which I have added since writing that piece. We all do what we can for the Kingdom and I thank God every day for what the UMW is doing every day! Page 5 Blessings, Deaconess Nan Gordon
