The Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance, Tim Calvert, Antisemitism and the Extreme-Right: A Chronology This chronology was

last updated September 17, 2012. Mid-2000s until July 2009 (Calverts departure from Laughing Horse Book Collective) Calvert is increasingly upfront about his anti-Jewish conspiracy theory views within the Laughing Horse Book Collective. Calvert advocates that Laughing Horse stock conspiracy books such as those by David Icke, an author who promotes the Protocols of the Elders of Zion antisemitic forgery. Visitors to Laughing Horse while Calvert is on shift frequently hear Calverts rants about Zionist media control. The Laughing Horse collective clarify that Holocaust-denial or minimization of the Holocaust are both against their anti-oppression safer space policy in response to other comments made by Calvert within the bookstore space. When Calvert is confronted about some of these issues within the Laughing Horse Collective, Calvert refers his critics to the antisemitic Rense.com website for articles backing up what he has to say. During this same period, Tim Calvert befriends Rod McLaughlin (AKA Jay Knott), a former ultra-leftist who from 2004 onwards explicitly embraced antisemitism. During the same time that McLaughlins political association with Tim Calvert deepens, McLaughlin also ends up taking over webmaster responsibilities for the Pacifica Forum in Eugene, Oregon. The Pacifica Forum was an organization which hosted a large number of high-profile antisemitic, white supremacist and Holocaust-denial speakers on the University of Oregon campus until the University changed its facility use policy. Some examples of those who gave presentations at the Pacifica Forum include Holocaust-denier David Irving, Mark Weber of the Institute for Historical Review (another key Holocaust-denial activist), white nationalist Tomislav Sunic, racist and antisemite Valdas Anelauskas, and Jimmy Marr of the National Socialist Movement. February 28, 2007 Mary Starrett of the Constitution Party is hosted by the Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance. Mary Starrett is an extreme-Right activist who composed a defense of Army of God bomber Eric Rudolph, has interviewed white supremacist Randy Weaver several times, and who considers Martin Luther King a Marxist dupe of Jewish New Yorkers. Dave Brownlow of the Constitution Party and of the extreme anti-choice Life Support of Oregon group also speak at this event. The 9/11 Truth Alliance event that featuring Mary Starrett is initially scheduled to take place at Laughing Horse Books (where Calvert was also active) but after controversy within that collective over the event, it is relocated to a rented room elsewhere. August 22, 2007 The Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance attempts to hold a speaking event for Dave Brownlow of the Constitution Party at Laughing Horse. After expressions of concern over Brownlows homophobic, anti-choice and anti-immigrant politics, Laughing Horse is canceled as an venue.

January 2, 2008 The Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance hosts a panel discussion on the works of David Icke at Laughing Horse Books. The panelists are Tim Calvert, Alex Ansary and Barry Ball. David Icke, whose works are discussed, is an antisemitic conspiracy theorist who promotes the Protocols of the Elders of Zion forgery. During the panel discussion, Calvert speaks enthusiastically about Ickes works, stating that Ickes perspective has become more compelling as weve watched the nightmare unfold. January 11, 2009 Leuren Moret event hosted by the Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance. Moret is an antisemitic anti-nuclear activist who calls depleted uranium Zionist extermination. Moret believes in a widespread Jewish conspiracy to kill large numbers of people via radiation plus purported weather control technology. January 12, 2009 Second Leuren Moret event hosted by Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance. This second event takes place at Laughing Horse Books. April 2009 A contingent from the 9/11 Truth Alliance, including Calvert, travel to Eugene to attend a Pacifica Forum gathering and build links. The event attended by the Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance contingent is one of two Pacifica Forum events entitled Poverty Palace: Deconstructing the Southern Poverty Law Center held during April (on the 17th and then the 24th). Valdas Anelauskas is the key speaker for the event attended by the Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance members. The Pacifica Forum Poverty Palace series includes comparisons of the SPLC to the KGB. The April meetings regarding the Southern Poverty Law Center are intended as a response to the SPLC designating Pacifica Forum as a hate group in March of that year. June 10, 2009 White nationalist and antisemite Valdas Anelauskas, who Calvert and other Alliance members met during their April trip to Eugenes Pacifica Forum, speaks in Portland at an event sponsored by the Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance (Rod McLaughlin serves as a middleman between Pacifica Forum and The 9/11 Truth Alliance in facilitating the event). Laughing Horse Books, the initial venue for the Anelauskas talk, cancels the use of their space for the event after debate within the collective. A second venue also cancels, but Anelauskas speech goes ahead at a third venue. Tim Calvert introduces Anelauskas as a speaker and comments that Anelauskas is a great scholar [...] with some pretty sharp things to say. The Anelauskas event is on the topic of the Frankfurt School, who many far-Right conspiracy theorists consider a plot by Marxist Jews to undermine Western culture. During his presentation, Anelauskas favorably cites Kevin McDonald, a psychology professor and extreme antisemite who has published several works claiming that Jewish people are predisposed to subvert and destroy every culture they find themselves within. Video footage of Anelauskas speaking appearance has been widely circulated online to further promote its message.

Mid-June, 2009 In the aftermath of the Anelauskas event, Tim Calvert leaves Laughing Horse Book Collective. June 25, 2009 Rose City Antifascists (RCA) issue a Statement on Anti-Semites and their Collaborators on the Portland Indymedia website. In this statement, RCA draw attention to the 9/11 Truth Alliances hosting of the white nationalist Anelauskas, stress the central involvement of Tim Calvert in that events planning, and call for Citybikes Workers Cooperative to remove Calvert from employment due to Calverts continued antisemitic activism. July 1, 2009 Initial statement purporting to be from the Board of Directors of Citybikes posted on Portland Indymedia, accusing RCA of harassment and intimidation for raising the issue of Calverts extreme Judeophobic politics. The Citybikes statement praises Tim Calvert and concludes: We support Tim Calvert as a member of the Cooperative. July 13, 2009 A follow-up statement from the Citybikes Board of Directors states that the piece of writing issued July 1 was not released with consensus from all members of the Board, nor did it pass through the hands of each and every worker. This Citybikes statement claims that We recognize the need for communication and are still in the process of dialogue. Tim Calverts response to the indymedia smear campaign is posted to Portland Indymedia later the same day. In this response, Tim Calvert claims that he does acknowledge that inviting Valdas Anelauskas was wrong and that some of Anelauskas politics are offensive, but Calvert also asks rhetorically Does this mean he [Anelauskas] never makes any good points? Calvert denies being an antisemite or denying the Holocaust. However, Calverts statement I don't deny the horrors of WWII including the Holocaust and the many forgotten details of that time is actually compatible with Holocaust-denial and strategies of trivialization, since it places the Holocaust on an equal level of importance to forgotten details of WWII. July 19, 2009 Notorious Holocaust-denier David Irving speaks in Portland. This event is protested by antifascists. Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance organizer Tim Titrud emails David Irving in advance of the event: I am very much looking forward to hearing you on Sunday. I belong to a 911 Truth Group in Portland in Portland and about 5-6 of us will be attending your event. The 9/11 Truth Alliance contingent at the Irving event comprises the largest single bloc of event attendees, raising significant funds for Irvings Portland stop due to the high price of tickets. Tim Calvert does not appear to have attended this event, although Calverts friend Rod McLaughlin of the Pacifica Forum is spotted. August 12, 2009 Return event for Mary Starrett hosted by the Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance, according to an announcement circulated by Tim Titrud.

September 23, 2009 Portland weekly paper Willamette Week publishes Anti-Fascist Front, an article about Rose City Antifa by reporter James Pitkin. (The article and RCAs response to it are both available online.) In the Willamette Week article Tim Calvert acknowledges his membership of the Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance, and calls RCAs criticisms of his activism Stalinist. Calvert does not acknowledge or apologize for his assistance to antisemites and racists in his interview, instead portraying himself as an innocent victim. December 11, 2009 Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance hosts Jim Fetzer. Fetzer is an antisemitic 9/11 and JFK assassination conspiracy theorist who recycles antisemitic myths such as that of the dancing Israelis on 9/11/01, and who also promotes the theories of antisemitic propagandist Benjamin Freedman. December 12, 2009 Second Jim Fetzer event in Portland, another 9/11 Truth Alliance production. April 24, 2010 Rose City Antifa host public educational event in the aftermath of the shooting of an anti-racist in downtown Portland. Tim Titrud shows up and is ejected due to his Holocaust-denial organizing. Alison Weir, an antisemitic activist who promotes the modern-day blood libel that Israelis harvest the organs of Palestinian children, shows up at the event as well. Once Weir is identified, she is criticized by an anti-racist event participant for her antisemitic organizing. (Weir later becomes the President of the Council for the National Interest; Weir frequently appears on racist and extreme-Right broadcasts to promote her views.) Those around the Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance later take issue with Rose City Antifa over the ejection of Titrud and the verbal criticism of Weir. Mid-2010 Tim Titrud is listed amongst the members of the Development Group for Rediscover911.com, an antisemitic 9/11 Truth website which blames the 9/11/11 events on a worldwide Jewish conspiracy. James (Jim) Fetzer, who had been twice hosted by the Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance, is also listed as part of the Rediscover911.com website Development Group at this time. July 23-25, 2010 Anti-Racist Action Conference in Portland. Tim Titrud and a friend distribute a joint Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance-Pacifica Forum flyer against the anti-racist conference, a gathering which the 9/11 Truth Alliance & the Pacifica Forum (McLaughlin) consider Zionist. The flyer alludes to Tim Calvert as one of us. End of 2010/early 2011 Western Worker Cooperative Conference confirms that the Board sides with Tim Calvert, does not see any problem of antisemitism, and will not censure Calvert.

Early 2011 Tim Calvert resigns from the Board of Directors for the Western Worker Cooperative Conference despite having received no official censure for his antisemitic organizing. WWCC continues to pay tribute to Calvert as a Conference founder on its website. January 29, 2011 Youtube video of a Portland solidarity with Egypt rally includes footage of Tim Calvert, identified as representing the Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance. March 23, 2011 In one of Calverts several appearances on KBOO community radio, Tim Calvert represents Citybikes and the co-op movement on show titled Worker-owned cooperatives: building a more humane economy. April 9, 2011 Leuren Moret speaks at a Portland event organized by the Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance. Another speaker at this event is veteran anti-nuclear activist Lloyd Marbet, who speaks at the invitation of Tim (whether this is Tim Titrud or Tim Calvert is unclear.) See entry of January 11, 2009 for a brief description of Morets worldview. Lloyd Marbet takes part in this event without previous knowledge of Morets work; no evidence seems to suggest that Marbet endorses Morets antisemitism. The Moret-Marbet event further illustrates the attempts of the Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance to bring those on the Left into their own sphere of influence. April 10, 2011 Leuren Moret event in Portland, the fourth known time that Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance activists have hosted Moret. August 4, 2011 Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance hosts a speaking event for Susan Lindauer. Lindauer is best known for being accused of conspiracy on behalf of the Iraqi government under Saddam Hussein. Lindauer believes that there was Mossad complicity in the 9/11/01 attacks and has been interviewed and promoted by antisemitic activists because of these views. September 9, 2011 Jim Fetzer speaks in Portland once again, hosted by the Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance as the first event of its weekend of activity commemorating the ten-year anniversary of 9/11/01. See December 11, 2009 entry for a few aspects of Fetzers antisemitism. KBOO community radio broadcasts the show Tim Calvert, Jim Fetzer speak on local events organized by Portland 9/11 Truth. September 10, 2011 Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance hosts a Continuing Education for Dissident Citizens event at Sellwood Community Center. Tim Calvert is the renter of the Sellwood Community Center space for the event. Tim Calverts speech at the Continuing Education event discusses what Calvert perceives as Zionist media control and includes a discussion of an alleged conspiracy to bring Britain into WWII against Germany--through Calverts discussion of family links to Freud by the main conspiratorial actors, Calvert makes clear that he sees a

Jewish aspect to such conspiracy. Calvert then states that this conspiracy is what was behind the bombing of German civilians during WWII, making Calverts WWII story into one of Jews victimizing helpless Germans. Video footage of Calverts lecture is available online. After a Continuing Education panel in which hate crimes against gay people were portrayed by Tim Titrud as false flag events, the guest of honor gave his presentation at the Saturday 9/11 Truth event. Fritz Springmeier is a bomber and convicted bank robber who is also known for a series of antisemitic conspiracy books such as Bloodlines of the Illuminati. Springmeier is a former member of the Christian Patriots Association who has been linked to white supremacists and the anti-abortion terror group the Army of God. Springmeier gave his presentation to the Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance and assembled guests on the topic of occult symbolism in the 9-11 attacks. This event was Springmeiers first public speaking event since his release from federal prison after serving his nine-year sentence. September 1, 2012 Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance hosts Mark H. Gaffney, who has published amongst his works two books on what he considers a 9/11/01 conspiracy. Gaffney is also known as a contributor to the antisemitic Rense.com website. September 9, 2012 A Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance gathering at Sellwood Park, at a picnic area reserved by Tim Calvert, includes Fritz Springmeier as special guest.
