Different Types of Electric Transformers

Transformers are used to change the numbers of amperes, volts and watts of the electrical current from power source to the intended purpose of mechanism. They are used to change the input voltage to a desired value of output voltage. In general, transformers can step up/increase the voltage or step down /decrease the voltage. Most of the transformers are embedded in another device, so you do not see them physically as they are placed in the interior part of a machine. They are useful devices that can transfer energy between circuits. They are very useful in national power grid because they are responsible for transferring huge volume of high voltage over long distances. These devices come in broad range of sizes which can either be small as a fingernail or as heavy like hundreds of tons. They serve an intended function and are designed based on the amount of power needed. Typically, there are varieties of transformers which are utilized for diverse applications. A typical example of these devices is the one present in the computer power supply. A transformer is fixed inside in order to alter the incoming 120 volts into 12 and 5 volts. These devices are also designed in adapters such as mobile chargers. The device alters the incoming 120 volts to a lower voltage such as 3, 5,9,12 volts that mobile can accept. Most of the transformers have fixed ratios. It means that the output voltage is constant to the input voltage. While some have variable ratio wherein you can conveniently change the ratio of the input and output either manually or automatically. Electric transformers change voltage from one level to another. They operate by converting higher voltage to a lower voltage. It works through the principle of magnetic induction between coils to alter the current levels. They come in range of low voltage, high voltage and step down voltage transformer. These voltage transformers are used in nations and regions where voltage supply is 220/240 volts. It works in the initial voltage of 220/240 volts, and step it down to 110/120 volts. Step up Voltage Transformer is a voltage transformer that is used in countries and regions that uses voltage supply of 110/120 volts. It works with 110/120 volts and step it up to 220/240 volts. Other types of transformers which are used in different applications include Isolation, Special Purpose, Distribution, Constant Voltage (CVT) and Three Phase Transformer. Ac Power Transformers is where Electrons keep changing directions. One common example of this device is the power coming from wall outlets including which is installed in our homes.
