Comparison of the radiation from circular motion and the linear motion of a electron.

Hemanta Bhattarai CDP,TU 09 Oct 2012

For the linear motion:

In the linear motion, the acclearation and the velocity are parallel, the magnitude of the velocity changes so = 0.Let us consider a constant force be applied, dp d(mv) = dt dt dp d dv = mv + m dt dt dt Since;
d dt

= 3 (.) dp dv = 3 (.)mv + m dt dt

let unit vector in direction of velocity be ; (v v) dp = ( 3 2 mv + mv) dt c = m v 2 2 + 1 But 2 = Hence; F = m 3 v Now, Using equation 14.43 JD Jackson: Pa||v = 2 e2 2 6 v 3 c3
2 1 2 ;

= m v[ 2 1 + 1] = m 3 v

2 e2 6 2 F 3 m2 c3 6 2 e2 F2 3 m2 c3

For the circular motion:

In the circular motion the accleration is directed towards the centre and the velocity is tangential, so a v.If constant F is applied then,the velocity doesnt change in magnitude.i.e d = 0. dt d(mv) dp = dt dt = m Hence; F = mv Now,using the equation 14.46 JD Jackson: Pav = = = 2 e2 2 4 v 3 c3 dv dt

2 e2 4 2 F 3 m2 c3 2 2 e2 2 2 F 3 m2 c3

Conclusion:
Pav = 2 Pa v

From section (1)and (2);

Thus,for a given force, the radiation emitted with the trasverse acceleration is a factor of 2 larger than with the parallel acceleration.
