The Shahada
The Shahada is the Muslim profession of faith and the first of the Five Pillars of Islam. The word Shahada in Arabic means testimony. The Shahada is the Muslim creed, and declaration of belief in the oneness of God and acceptance of Muhammad as Gods Prophet: There is no god but God, Muhammad is the messenger of God La Ilaha Illallah, Muhammad Rasul Allah Muslims recite the Shahada when they wake up in the morning, and before they go to sleep at night. It is repeated five times every day in the call to prayer in every mosque. A single honest recitation of the Shahadah in Arabic is all that is required for a person to convert to Islam.
