On November 4th, our church will observe a special Sunday when we will lift up those, who for us, are our saints. Plan on bringing a picture of your saint to display. Tables will be located at the back of the Sanctuary on Sundays October 28th and November 4th for your pictures. During Worship on the 4th, candles will be lit as we name our saints and remember those in our church family whose lives we have celebrated this year. You are invited to participate in this special observance.

SPECIAL THANKS TO... CHERYL HIATT

The Holy Roller

The bus runs each Sunday before Sunday School, and if needed before church, and then after church. You may request a ride by calling the bus number (955-0706) or the church office (5608). The bus driver for November is Brian Young.

The primary responsibilities of the Church (Charge) Conference in the annual meeting shall be to review and evaluate the total mission and ministry of the church, receive reports, and adopt objectives and goals that are in keeping with the Mission and Vision of The United Methodist Church. Everyone is encouraged to attend; all full members may vote.

Your generous gifts on United Methodist Student Day support: U.M. Scholarships and the U.M. Student Loan Fund, administered by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM). Annual conferences participating in the Rebate Program may award one or more merit scholarships to U.M. students.

Progress is being made on the building of the new Foodstand. The footings and oor have been poured. The walls are up and the trusses set. It is really starting to look like a building. Thank you to those who have generously donated. Donations are still being accepted. If you would like to make a donation, you may give it to Allen Johnson or Marvin Houdek. You may also leave it at the church office. The pictures are of the stand as of Oct. 20th. Changes are happening everyday, so if you are able, you should drive by and see what all is going on. We have one more opportunity for you to attend a Cottage meeting on November 4, 2012 at 4:00 pm in the church Parlor. Those of you who were unable to make it to your Cottage meeting are welcome to attend.

Please RSVP to the church by phone or email by November 1st by 1:00 pm.

We hope that we have not inadvertently left anyone off the list. We made sure that those who are on our membership/friends list that live in Republic County were invited to one Cottage meeting. SPPRC wants to thank the following hosts for their time in planning and hosting a Cottage meeting. Steve & Jewelda Scofield, Sid & Pam Scofield, Lanie Engle & Janet Heyka, Marvin & Janis Houdek, Allen & Marcy Johnson, Don & Marty Westphal, Kevin & Kerry Johnson, Tom & Molly Williams, Emma Berggren, Donna Ward, Jay & Lynell Kallman, Kurt & Kelli Childs (hosted 2 meetings), Barry & Susan Childs These special people were very willing to host these very informative meetings. Thanks also to Pastor Emily for her willingness to lead and to be a part of 14 (plus two make-up) meetings! Information gathered from the Cottage meetings will be shared with our leadership in forming our goals for the future of our church. Our next step from the 20/20 workshop (see below) planning is for Pastor Emily and Mikel Hadachek to gather information from the community in order to help find out what the needs are for our area and how our church can best serve those needs.

The 20/20 workshop was a planning time for small membership churches that was held in June by our church conference. At this workshop, we planned for the first 20 weeks of Pastor Emilys ministry in our church. Several members of our church leadership decided on 3 goals:

1.

to have Cottage meetings in August, September and October

2. to have a Potluck in September and have Pastor Emily lead a discussion with a Time Line of our church history

3.

to have Mikel Hadachek and Pastor Emily go into the community (explained above)

All of these goals are in place to help us in planning for our church. If you have any questions about our workshop, please call Susan Childs, SPPRC Chairman Submitted by Susan Childs

The Leadership Team of the church met on October 3rd, 2012 with most members present. We held our usual learning and loving sessions and moved on to ministry team reports. Those always remind me of how much we have going on in the church and how many hours people volunteer to serve the Lord. Not everyone gets thanks so I want to personally thank all of you for the time you spend serving God. One of the things that I feel gets lost during team meetings sometimes is the actual leading or "guidance" of the church. Sometimes we get caught in the team reports and not in what direction our church is headed. That being said, we had a long discussion about the worship direction and where we want to head in the future. We discussed contemporary, traditional, and our current blended (or new traditional) service. Worship is unique to everyone and so we would like to ensure that everyone has a setting where they feel comfortable worshiping God to the fullest. We had a healthy discussion about attracting others to the church, resources available in the church, and what are the exact needs of the church in relation to worship services. We felt it was very important to let the entire church know we were discussing possible changes, but want much more input and communication before any decisions are made. I encourage each of you to discuss worship with members of the Leadership Team so we can get a better feel of the entire church's thoughts. Our next meeting is Sunday, November 4th. We will be completing a budget and contacting individuals for new leadership in the church for 2013. Also, I would encourage everyone to attend the Church Charge Conference Sunday, November 18th, @ 3:00 pm. In Christ's Love, Kurt Childs, Lay Leader

The Trustees have planted a Golden Maple tree at the Parsonage and replaced a section of the sidewalk utilizing the City of Bellevilles sidewalk program. Earlier this year a new refrigerator and a kitchen window were replaced. Light fixtures in the kitchen, dinning & living room were replaced with new light fixtures or ceiling fans. The ceiling in the family room was repaired and the interior of the garage was also repainted. New landscaping was done including new plantings and features plus reseeding around the front of the Parsonage and south lawn. Four windows in the north living & dining rooms have been replaced. At the church, the Trustees have replaced the North fire escape flat roof with a new pitched roof. The Overflow/meeting room walls have been repaired and repainted. Concrete caps on the old window wells around the church basement have been added to divert water drainage and help keep the Food Bank walls dry, Everyone Serve Sunday volunteers painted the stained walls in the Food Bank. The church Kiosk (Front Lawn Sign) replacement--the Trustees continue to receive donations for the Kiosk Project. The project was approved by the Trustees January 2012, and a representation of the new Kiosk was shown in the January newsletter - this is available on our web site. To date, the project still falls short of having enough donations to be completed. This will be a brick and motor sign similar in size to old kiosk utilizing the same flaming cross that was attached and a new digital display board much like the one at Astra Bank. Any donation to the Trustees can be recorded in your reported giving, which means it is a charitable deduction. Your help will be greatly appreciated by the Trustees and will help enable them to care for the church properties you have entrusted them with. The Church Trustees are; Janet Heyka, Annette Bredthauer, Molly Williams, Sid Scofield, Jerry Melton, Jerry Richecky, Russ Piroutek and Don Westphal. The next time you talk to one of the Trustees, please thank them for their work and time. All of the Trustees have taken their personal time, equipment and talents to help with the repairs and projects mentioned above. Jay Kallman, Trustees Chair

It appears that the new Kiosk may not be able to be completed before Winter sets in due to a lack of funds. Please help further this project with your donations!

Itiscalled theAdventProject.Wewillbeparticipatinginit. Wewillcelebrateaseven weekAdventbeginning theweekafterAllSaints Sunday.Therewill notbealotof obviouschange. Wewillstill keepourtraditionofa fourweek Advent wreath, we will Hang the Greens on November 25th, and make a progression from Advent hymnstothecarolsweallenjoy. To expandAdventseemstometobeawaytotaketheseasonbacktoGodandawayfromsocietythatseesAdventas a four week shoppingtimea time to prepare. So this year will be a bitdifferent, in hopes of giving a fuller orientation to all that God is giving and hoping for us in his Son. The following is fromthe founder of this
Two principal reasons come to mind. First, the churches long ago lost the Advent season to what I call the Christmas culture of our society. We all know that Christmas decorations and gift items begin to appear in all kinds of stores way before Halloween. After October 31, the manifestation becomes complete! By the time the new church year begins a month later in December with Advent 1, the churches are tempted to make the season exclusively a four week journey to Bethlehem. But that focus is only one pole (and secondary at that!) of the Advent season. The primary one is beginning the new church year with a steady look at the end times, that is, at the goal of fulfillment of all the implications of Christs resurrection for humanity and, indeed, the entire creation. This is usually called the kingdom or the reign of God. That emphasis is intended to give the beginning of the annual cycle of the liturgical year an emphasis that will help Christians to engage ever more deeply in Christs mission of peace, justice, and the integrity of creation. Having these things firmly in heart, mind, and will, we may be able more authentically to enter into the yearly round from Bethlehem to the Passion, Pentecost, and the celebration of All Saints that concludes the year. Starting Advent in November would, at least, give the primary focus of the season a chance before we are all overcome by carols in mall music. The second reason for an expanded season has to do with setting before us in our worship, rooted in Scripture, an alternative and, I think, more authentic vision of the end times or the reign of God than those otherwise so effectively media-touted ones offered in fundamentalist, millennialist, or rapturist versions.

Our Holiday Food Basket Campaign begins on Oct. 28 and will continue through the month of November. Please select a tag (or several) from the Giving Tree located in the foyer. We are asking you to bring back the food items listed on the back of the tag. These items will be combined into baskets that will be delivered to families in December for their holiday meal. Our theme this year is You Are the Light of the World. Attached to each tag is a tea light candle for you to enjoy sometime during Advent. Thank you in advance for participating in this project. Pam Scoeld, Local Missions Team Project Chair

Join the festivities when we adorn our church for the Advent Season. Come to help decorate (we need your willing hands and hearts) and stay to share a meal. The trimming of our church, begins at 4:00 pm followed by a Birthday Potluck Supper at 5:30 pm. The Fellowship Team will host the supper and bring birthday cakes (always yummy and creative) for the tables. They will also provide drinks and table service. Please bring a food dish to share.

OH YUM!
