Drop forged chains

Drop forged chain with plastic scrapers.

The drop forged chains supplied by Bechtel consists of forged steel links. These links may be equiped with all kinds of plastic or steel scrapers.

The connection pins between these links are in a circlips version. The following table shows various different types of drop forged chains, together with the respective breaking loads.

Scrapers
Drop forged chains as well as double drag link chains may be equipped with plastic and/or steel scrapers. For heavy-duty use, either of these chains may be equipped with welded steel scrapers. Double drag link chains may also be equipped with a bent steel scraper, attached to the outer link. Chains with plastic scrapers have quite a few advantages. The plastic scrapers are made of wearresistant nylon and are flexible. The fact that the chain rests on the plastic scrapers eliminates the steel-on-steel contact. Plastic scrapers are temperature resistant between -20 C and + 70 C. The special zytel scraper is temperature resistant up to +110 C. The following table shows the various different types of plastic scrapers, together with the corresponding chain. Advantages of plastic scrapers

noise-reduced, 60 db(A) measured at a 1 m distance, low frictional resistance, saving up to 20 % of the energy, less costly, less wear and tear of the bottom plate and the chain, flexible, bendable under high pressure, eliminates the need for guiding and wearing strips, very quickly and easily assembled or replaced.
