Time - Distance - Speed Tables and Diagrams 1

Work through the sheet in pairs. Write all answers and drawings into your notebook. 1.) A lion is running with constant speed. The time-distance table contains the distances from the starting point at different times. Use the table to answer the following questions: time (seconds) distance (meters) 0 0 1 2 2 4 3 6 4 8 5 10 6 12 7 14 8 16

a) How far did the lion get in 3 seconds? b) What is the speed of the lion? c) How far does the lion get between the 4th and the 7th second?

2.) An elephant is running at constant speed. The time-distance diagram contains the distances from the starting point at different times. Look at the diagram and answer the following questions:

35 30 25 20 15 10 5 0 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 time 7 8 9 10

a) How far did the elephant get in 4 seconds? b) What is the speed of the elephant? c) How far does the elephant get between the 3rd and the 8th second?

3.) Draw a time-distance diagram for the motion described in example 1. 4.) Make a time-distance table for the motion described in example 2. 5.) A person moves at 5 m/s for 7 seconds. Make both a time-distance table and a timedistance diagram for the motion.

Time - Distance - Speed Tables and Diagrams 2

Work through the sheet in pairs. Write all answers and drawings into your notebook. 1.) A djinn is flying. The time-distance table contains the distances from the start at different times. time (seconds) 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 distance (meters) 0 10 20 30 40 55 70 85 100 a) Draw the time-distance diagram? b) What is the speed of the djinn in the first 4 seconds? c) What is the speed of the djinn between the 4th and the 8th second? d) Describe the motion of the djinn verbally! 2.) A dog is moving according to the time-distance diagram.

30 25 20 15 10 5 0 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 time 7 8 9 10

a) Make the time - distance table for the motion! b) At which speeds is the dog moving at the different times? c) How could you describe the motion of the dog verbally?

3.) A duck is starting to fly in the water. It first moves at 0,5 m/s for 2 seconds. Then it tries to get out of the water flapping its wings at 2 m/s for 3 seconds. Then it flies for 4 seconds at 6 m/s before it lands again. a) Make a time-distance table for the motion of the duck! b) Make a time-distance diagram for the motion of the duck!

4.) Invent an example on your own! Make the table and the diagram for it and let the partner describe the motion!
