Biggest and best Dee Day clean up
THE Big Dee Day Clean-up which took place recently has been one of the biggest and
best yet!
The full stretch of the River Dee was targeted around west Cheshire to the Flintshire
border by 72 volunteers made up of local residents and businesses.
The initiative was backed by Cheshire West and Chester Council, Flintshire County
Council, the Environment Agency and volunteers.
Over the two days around 168 bags of litter, four shopping trolleys, and a bulky
industrial grinder was cleared away and a pick-up truck was loaded with otsam which
included planks of wood - all collected from the banks of the River Dee.
Cllr Lynn Riley, Executive Member for Community and Environment and Chester
Councillor Samantha Dixon helped with the clean-up.
Cllr Riley said: This was one of the best Big Dee Day Clean-ups ever.
It was extremely successful and I would like to give a big thank you to everyone who
took part.
Its a great demonstration of what can happen when we all get together and get stuck
in. We all have our own thoughts and feelings about the River and it now looks much
more attractive for residents and visitors.

NESTON CHRISTMAS
LIGHTS n LANTERNS
A much loved annual community event has a new
title! Nestons Christmas lights switch-on will
once again be celebrated with a Lantern Parade and
programme of entertainment for everyone to enjoy...
Lantern paraders will meet
on the market square, and
will set of at 6.20pm, led by
Neston High School Samba
band. Te parade route is
longer this year going up
Raby Road to the trafc
lights and then lef down
the High Street to the Cross.
Roads in the town centre
will close between 5.30 and
7.30pm to ensure the safety of
participants.
On the Cross, the lights will
be ofcially switched on by
Mayor of Neston, Cllr Pat
Hughes, before Neston Kidz
Choir perform some festive
tunes. To accommodate the
ever-growing crowds at this
festive event, there will be
a substantial sound system,
volunteer stewards and
barriered areas so spectators
wont miss a thing.
A very special festive visitor
will then lead everyone back
to the Market Square, via
Brook Street, where there will
be an hour-long programme
of entertainment, including
fre-jugglers , Neston Schools
Choir and X-Factor boot
camp fnalist Harriet Jane.
Hot soup, pasties, cofee,
mulled wine and mince pies
will also be on sale.
Lantern workshops for the
parade will be held at Neston
Town Hall on Saturday 17th
November, 10 12 and 2
4pm and 24th November,
2 4pm. To book, call CAN

The Trail Blazer was installed on the last day of term and so the children
had to wait all summer before they could return to school and enjoy playing
on it. The grand opening took place recently and was attended by all the
children and parents of the school.
The ceremonial ribbon was cut by special guest Pete Walsh who had been
a governor in the school for many years and is still a familiar face in the
corridors helping out in the classrooms.
A cheque was presented to head teacher Dawn Ormes by Chair of the P.A.,
Susan Wilding, who thanked all the parents and children for their continuous
support in helping them reach their target.
The P.A. is currently considering fundraising objectives for this year
which they hope will further enhance the school and new members to the
committee are always welcome!

3.30pm to 7pm. The School Hall will be transformed into a festive
wonderland, with fairy lights, Carols, mulled wine and mince pies and
Christmas food to get you in the festive spirit. Market stalls selling

IF you were walking past
Parkgate Primary School
playground at the beginning of
the new school year, then you
would have been forgiven for
looking twice.
Not only was the bunting
out but the Key Stage One
department had been replaced
with a circus troupe. Lion
tamers, clowns, trapeze artists,
acrobats and ring masters
were all met by their teachers
for the day, PomPom, Korky and Checkers the Clowns! On entering school, faces
were painted and off the children went to be entertained by a circus performer. It
was then not only the clowns falling about laughing but all the troupe, as they
enjoyed watching the stunts and tricks performed. The excitement, in anticipation of
performing these themselves, was palpable!
Balancing feathers, juggling, walking the tight rope and plate spinning meant that the
day continued with fun and laughter as the whole troupe perfected and performed
their new skills.
Having started the new IPC [International Primary Curriculum] unit, the Circus, with
such a successful event the children are now perfecting their skills in PE and on the
playground, whilst learning more about the history of the circus, where they originate
and how far they will travel. The wealth of opportunities to support literacy, maths and
even science, have meant that IPC is now being known as interesting, positive and
creatively stimulating at Parkgate!

A masterpiece in yellow
Children and staff at Oaklands Day Nursery in Neston had lots of fun celebrating
Roald Dahl Day. The children explored expressive arts and design and used
different forms of material to achieve a Roald Dahl masterpiece in yellow his
favourite colour.
NESS AND LITTLE NESTON WI
OUR speaker for the October meeting was Glynn Parry whose talk was entitled
Quiet Corners villages on the Wirral that are a little off the beaten track. Glynn
illustrated his talk using slides he had taken over many years of exploring our local
countryside. He reminded us of the ancient villages of Ince and Shotwick and also
of Bromborough Pool which was built by the Wilson to house their factory workers
sound familiar? Bromborough Pool is actually 30 years older than Port Sunlight and
is the third oldest industrial village in the country.
The next months meeting will take place on Tuesday 6th November. This is our
General Meeting for our branch.
Meetings take place in St Michaels Church, Marshlands Road, Little Neston, at
7.30pm on the rst Tuesday of every month. New members and visitors always

Cancer Care.
The children, staff
and friends of the
school produced an
impressive range
of cakes to sell in
aid of the charity.
The school hall
was full of pupils and parents enjoying books
together
Karen Thornton, class-teacher said: We
are very grateful to everyone who helped
organise the event, baked and bought cakes.

Pirates at
Primary School
PIRATES invaded Neston Primary
School recently as their new pirate
play-boat was launched. Pupils
dressed as pirates as part of the
celebrations. The new wildlife garden,
story circle and outdoor learning area
were ofcially opened during the
event.
Children, parents and friends of the
school enjoyed the wonderful autumn
sunshine as they explored the new
additions to the school grounds.
Headteacher Rob Golding said: The
Welly Project is a project to improve
the school grounds and the vast
majority of the work has been carried
out by school staff with the help of a
few friends of the school. We are very
grateful to everyone for their help. We
hope to build on what we have started
and Phase 2 of The Welly Project is
now being planned

Lantern parade date
MAKE a date for Friday 30th November for the Neston Christmas Lights and Lanterns
Parade through the town centre. Lantern paraders will meet on the market square, and
will set off at 6.20pm, led by Neston High School Samba band. The parade route is
longer this year going up Raby Road to the trafc lights and then left down the High
Street to the Cross.
Roads in the town centre will close between 5.30 and 7.30pm to ensure the safety of
participants.

NESTON Slimmer Kath Firmstone recently realised
the dream of a lifetime by going on a Cunard
Mediterranean cruise.
Kath, a diamond target member of the Neston
Slimming World group, has just returned from her
cruise and had a wonderful time, thanks to the fact
that she lost 4st to go on it.
She had always dreamed on going on a cruise,
but when she was heavier, she didnt have the
conidence to wear a swimsuit and sunbathe
by the pool or swim and didnt feel comfortable
shopping for evening dresses and wasnt able to
ind slinky dresses in larger sizes.
However, since she has lost the weight her
conidence has grown and she decided that
now was the time to book that dream cruise to
celebrate her weight loss.

table.
