Outgoing Transportation Secretary Manuel Roxas II yesterday gave no definite timetable or deadline for the conclusion of the investigation into the crash of a Piper Seneca plane that killed Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo and two others last month. Sometimes whenever there is a timetable or deadline, the quality of the investigation is being compromised. We want a thorough probe with

100 percent certainty of what happened and what led to the accident, he said after receiving four crates containing the plane wreckage that were transported from Masbate City to Manila South Harbor aboard Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Vessel 891 yesterday. With the wreckage turned over to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the agency will now recreate the last minutes of the tragic plane crash that also killed its pilots Capt. Jessup Bahinting and Nepalese student Kshitz Chand. The aircraft wreckage which includes the cockpit, the fuselage, two wings, right and left engines arrived in Manila at about 2 p.m. yesterday and was transferred to the CAAP headquarters in Pasay City. The plane wreckage will be stripped into pieces, witnessed by the family of Capt. Jessup Bahinting. We will see from these material (pieces of) evidence what went wrong with the aircraft, CAAP Director General Ret. Gen. William Hotchkiss said. He added that there would be no need to seek the assistance of foreign aviation experts as the Philippine Airspace Development Corporation will provide the required expertise to tear down the wreckage. Aside from the plane wreckage, the CAAP have also secured documents of Aviatour Air, operator of the ill-fated Piper Seneca aircraft, from Cebu City and report of telecommunication companies on the communication made between the passengers during the last two hours leading to the accident. Robredos tragic flight reportedly took one hour and 20 minutes in total. Hotchkiss said CAAP investigators will look into the documents and see if regulations were followed. Roxas reported that the right wheel of the aircraft was extended and the right engine appeared to have feathered, suggestive of the pilots intention to land. But despite the appearance of the plane wreckage, Hotchkiss refused to conclude that engine trouble, not pilot error, caused the August 18 plane crash. We will have to wait until the findings come out. Lets just wait for the official results of the investigation, Hotchkiss added. Roxas also disclosed that

It is important to know what really caused the plane crash so that we will know what to consider in formulating regulations, especially those concerning aviation schools and private or chartered flights, Roxas said. Before the turnover ceremony, a PCG chaplain blessed the plane wreckage. Meanwhile, Roxas thanked the PCG technical divers who were responsible for the recovery of the wreckage and said government will also recognize and thank the civilian technical divers who helped in the search and retrieval operations in Masbate City.

Los Angeles, CA It was only two weeks ago that the first ever Queen Lola, Mrs. Bernardita Bernie Ganon, was crowned in Glendale. With the Queen along with her court, 1st Runner Up, Rosalinda Nery, 2nd Runner Up Edith Knoch, 3rd Runner Up, Aleli Abrigo Neal, and 4th Runner Up, Dalisay Daisy Alonzo, they continued their media circuit to where it all began, Kababayan LA 18 with Jannelle So. During the first segment, both Bernie Ganon and Linda Nery were asked about how the pageant had changed their lives. They both reiterated that it had made them instant celebrities amongst their friends and family. Friends and relatives in Manila are awaiting the upcoming arrival of Ms. Ganon as they are proud of her accomplishment, being a representative from her province, and cannot wait to celebrate. She thanked her supporters and family, especially her husband whom she called, her King for the tremendous amount of support and love he had shown throughout all of the pageant. Ms. Nery has had the opportunity to be featured in a brief speaking role in a film shot right after the pageant, and she relishes being asked to take pictures and make appearances. In the second segment, Edith Knoch, Aleli Abrigo Neal, and Daisy Alonzo were asked to share their experiences throughout the whole pageant. Ms. Knoch, who took home the Miss Sunshine (Miss Friendship) and Miss Photogenic awards, expressed her preference for the long gown competition, and told the audience how it was great to be dressed up and to be in the spotlight. Ms. Neal showed her enthusiasm for the cocktail dress portion, wanting to show off her figure, while adding that she lost 10 pounds since she joined the pageant. Ms. Alonzo couldnt believe the excitement and recognition at her workplace regarding the entire pageant and how many would stop and ask for a picture. The pageant brought much joy and excitement to these Lolas, which most admit that they never dreamed they would experience. Many were treated as celebrities overnight, and lived to experience a taste of fame and celebrity. Others got to savor experiences that they will remember forever. If this years pageant is any indication, the Queen Lola Pageant 2013 will definitely be a must see event for 2013! MANILA, Philippines --The debate in the Senate on the Reproductive Health bill had some emotionally charged moments on Wednesday after Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III strongly objected to what they perceived were insinuations by Sen. Pia Cayetano that they were delaying the measures passage. Enrile and Sotto are staunch critics of the RH bill, while Cayetano is the bills principal sponsor. I just want to share my notion of the future of this country. I will not be shackled. I resent any implication that Im here to derail or obstruct the passage of this measure. Ill challenge anyone here to show me that if I have ever delayed the passage of any bill here, but nobody can dictate on me whoever you are, Enrile said when he interjected during the plenary session. He took the floor after Sotto finished the last of his turno en contra speech where he warned that a provision of the bill could indirectly promote and legalize abortion in the Philippines. Cayetano explained she merely wanted to ask why Senate leaders floated the possibility that the measure would be taken up in the next Congress. Addressing Cayetano, Enrile said he wanted to ask questions which are relevant to the issue. I would like to ask the lady senator sponsor of the bill that I am going to ask clarifications, on what is the experience of Russia. Whats the experience of Italy? Whats the experience of Spain? Whats the experience of Poland? Whats the experience of China, Korea, Japan and the rest of the world? Enrile said. Isnt that a pertinent question here to be asked so that we will know the impact of this bill on the lives of the people of this country? he said. I wont be here when the impact of this bill will happen and neither will the sponsor or anyone of us. But it is our duty as responsible people to dissect this bill no matter how unpopular our position is to determine whether the policy embedded in it is the right policy or a destructive policy for this issue, Enrile said. He continued with a hint of irritation: No one can lecture to me about these things. I know my history Ive learnedwith hard labor and I resent being questioned to state my purpose. Who are you to challenge my purpose. Sotto, backing up Enriles proposition, reiterated that his speech was not meant to delay the bill. He said even a local bill usually takes time to get to be passed, then why not a measure that is as controversial and divisive as this? Sotto said there are other ways to delay a bills passage. There are parliamentary procedures available to me or to anybody else in the senate even if you really want to delay it, he said. Sotto expressed fears that once it becomes a law, the measure could promote abortion since some of its provision may be open to abuse. Its not far-fetched that this bill will be abused. Some medical practitioners who have no conscience or midwives may easily perform abortion procedures to avert pregnancy, Sotto said. At the rate Eugene Domingos career is zooming, she can easily just keep moving forward. But shes one big star who refuses to be caught up in the frenzy, so she makes it a point to look back. Thats why Uge is returning to her roots in theater as she reprises Nora Aunors landmark movie role, this time in the stage play Bona, ongoing weekends till Sept. 23 at Peta Theater in New Manila (tickets available at Ticketworld and through petatheater.com). How is she portraying Bona so she wont be compared to Ate Guy? From the very start of the rehearsal, I have been honest with Direk Soxy Topacio and Peta artistic director Maribel Legarda, Uge says. I told them to please not make it exactly like Ate Guys Bona. I know my strengths, and I know I can never repeat what Nora Aunor did. They gave me a contemporary Bona, which will better reflect the times. What made her decide to go back to theater? Theater is my home, she points out. A material as relevant and as entertaining as Bona is a perfect chance for me to attract more people to the theater experience. That, for me, is giving back. What can we learn from Bona? Bona is a reflection of all of us, she says. Bona is a fan. Who isnt? We all want to be a part of somebodys success. For sure, we will all turn into Uges fans after watching her do what she does best. can be more charming sometimes. Right now it is Panalangin for me. Long live Apo for making it more fun to sing in the Philippines!

All good things come to those who wait. So fans of Regine Velasquez and Aga Muhlach can now rejoice. Their rom-com movie under Viva Films and GMA Films, Of All The Things, will finally be shown on Sept. 26. Aga portrays Umboy (Umbrella Boy), a bar retaker who holds office as a notary public under an umbrella. Regine plays Berns, an overly ambitious, social-climbing, class-A fixer. Their paths cross by some twist of fate, leading to a roller coaster ride of laughter, drama and romance. We call our movie an epic, says Reg, since it took three years to make. We stopped shooting when I got pregnant, but it would have been a waste to not finish it. How is it different from their previous films together? Its more funny than romantic, she notes. Its cute, without us making pa-cute, since were older. Of all the things there are to love about the Regine-Aga tandem, this new movie is bound to give us more reasons to adore them all over again.

We gave Brilliante Mendozas Captive an A rating at the Cinema Evaluation Board. The Cannes best director winner is out to captivate us with his latest masterpiece which opens in cinemas today. Lets hear it straight from Direk Dante: The events depicted are based on hostage crisis situations that have taken place in the Philippines, such as the 2001 Dos Palmas kidnappings in Palawan and other abductions by the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and similar separatist organizations. I treated Captive as a single real event. The script was based on intensive research and testimonies of survivors, captors, the military and other people who
witnessed, and/or were part of, each crisis. About 25 percent of the film consists of fictional elementsmostly characters and scenes that I felt were necessary for enhancement and dramatization. I shot the story in a straightforward manner, in keeping with the concept of reality as contained in the material. Thereses observations give us insights into the Muslim identity of the captors their interpretations of the Koran, their ambitions, fears, weaknesses. She also witnesses the poverty and lack of education in the Islamic community. My depiction of the captors is definitely not one-dimensional. Like [anyone of us], they can be funny at times, angry and violent at other times, even caring and compassionate under certain circumstances. I am not defending the Abu Sayyaf or their cause or justifying anything. Captive is all about humanitythe Abu Sayyafs, the hostages, even the militarys as an arm of the so-called Established Order. Despite the unresolved conflict, Captive shows the big picture: Everyone is captive to their own cause.

A wife or a husband is there to encourage and inspire his/her partner. Are you going to campaign for Aga? Regine: Oong bongga! Pati asawa ko will campaign for him. This is your third movie together. Aga: She even sang at my wedding. Regine: I had so much fun doing our first two movies that I was really looking forward to this third one. Regine (Butting in): Bukod sa pareho kaming maganda? Hahahaha! Aga: Marami! First, pareho silang supportive. They both trust their husbands. What I mean is that hindi sila ma-question sa asawa nila. You know, I think Im lucky because my wife ay masyadong mapag-pasensya at masyadong trusting ang asawa ko. Kasalanan mo kung magloloko ka pa because, you know, nakapag-asawa ka ng ganoong kaganda pagkatapos You have won several awards. How would you rate Regine as an actress? Aga: As a singer, well, everybody knows na napaka-versatile niya. As an actress, maybe Regine doesnt do socalled critically-acclaimed films but if you notice, mahusay siyang umarte in all her films, including in this movie. Kailangan siyang bigyan ng pansin at mapansin dito ng mga award-giving bodies. Sa portrayal ni Regine dito, not every actress can do it as well. She deserves an award.

MANILA, Philippines -- Actor Cesar Montano denied that his latest film Biktima, which tells the story of a journalist sent to a war-torn village, was inspired by the kidnapping of ABS-CBNs Ces Orena-Drilon in 2008.
