Dear Members and Friends, I hope everyone who views our newsletter has survived the hurricane or is in relatively good shape. Please remember if you need our services, our Food Stamp Assistance Program is available. Call Vilma Santos at 718-882-4000 ext. 304. Our Senior Centers help those age 60 years and over with hot nutritious lunches each day. We are a Warming Center at our Main Building. And we keep your teens safe and warm evenings at our Main Building on Gun Hill Road and our Beacons at MS 113, MS 142, PS 8 and PS 86, Edenwald Community Center on East 229th Street and our Co-op City Club on 141 Einstein Loop. The Center is alive and well and busier than ever. We do struggle during these difficult times but I am happy to say we have been up to the task and not only maintaining our programs but improving. We had a fantastic summer day camp season and our new site at Harriman State Park on Lake Cohasset proved to be everything we envisioned. Next summer will be even better! Our Child Care Centers under the citys new Early Learn Program, as well as our private Day Care, continue to expand and improve. Our programs for Out of School Youth continue to grow and expand to meet the tremendous needs of this population helping them to finish their high school education, receive job training, counseling support and gain employment. Our College Bound Program continues to help hundreds of high school youth apply and get into college and receive quality counseling services. Our Family Choice Program is focusing on charter middle and high schools as well as youth with special needs and helping them get into these schools.
