Z. Vatani, H. Eisazadeh* Department of Chemical Engineering, Babol University of Technology, Babol, 484, Iran *Eisazadeh@Hotmail.com

polyaniline/polystyrene (PAn/Ps) and polyaniline/ poly (vinyl chloride) (PAn/PVC) nanocomposites were successfully synthesized via polymerization of aniline using potassium iodate as an oxidant in the presence of hydroxypropylcellulose as a surfactant. These nanocomposites were characterized such as morphology, chemical structure and thermal stability by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). It was found that type of composite has a considerable effect on the particle size, morphology and thermal stability of the resulting product. (C30B) nanoparticles (0.5, 2.75 and 5 wt% of Cloisite30B (C30B)) were prepared via melt compounding. For this purpose, commercially available organoclay (Closite30B) was modified to improve the thermal stability. To evaluate the morphology achieved by the C30B in the polymer matrix, after processing operations, X-ray diffraction (XRD) has been carried out on all the prepared samples. The effect of C30B on crystallization behavior of PET before and after solid state polymerization (SSP) during heating and cooling are examined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Adding C30B can increase the Tmc (crystallization temperature from melt), and reduce half peak width of crystallization peak during cooling in DSC. Higher crystallization temperature and nucleation rate of PET during cooling can be achieved by the formation of organic C30B/PET nanocomposite. Finally, Avrami equation were used to understand and compare the crystallization and melting characteristics and the isothermal and non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of the PET and PCNs. Avrami equation was fitted on the data. Keywords: Poly (ethylene terephthalate); Montmorillonite; Solid state polymerization; Crystallization SYN 041

A. R. Modarresi-Alam*, S. Zafari Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Sistan & Baluchestan, Zahedan, Iran *modaresi@chem.usb.ac.ir

In the present work, a new nanocomposite from nanosilica-supported sulfuric acid with poly (o-methoxyaniline) under solvent-free condition has been synthesized for the first time. In fact, oxidative polymerization of o-methoxyaniline and its doping by solid dopant acid, nanosilica-supported sulfuric acid has been carried out simultaneously using ammonium peroxysulfate as oxidant in solid-state condition. The resulting nanocomposite was characterized and studied using spectra of fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ultravioletvisible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). It was determined by SEM and TEM images that the average particle size of resulting nanocomposite was 18.4 nm. The development of modified bitumen materials to improve the overall performance of pavements has been the focus of several research efforts made over the past few decades. From an environmental and economic standpoint, the use of ground tire rubber as a bitumen-modifying agent may contribute to solving a waste disposal problem and to improving the quality of road pavements. Phase separation in crumb rubber modified bitumens during storage at high temperature has been reported in different studies. In this article, the effect of the addition of nanoclay as a third component in crumb rubber modified bitumens has been investigated. The storage stability test results demonstrated that the crumb rubber modified bitumens have been stabilized in presence of nanoclay. In addition, rheological properties of crumb rubber modified bitumen improved when nanoclay content increased. Keywords: Modified bitumen; Nanoclay; Crumb rubber; Rheology; Storage stability SYN 042

at room temperature, the morphology was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to evaluate the effects of the Organo-Clay addition on the structure of nanocomposites. XRD traces showed that the characteristic (001) peak of the nanocomposites shifted to the lower angle region. XRD and TEM results showed simultaneous existence of the exfoliated and intercalated structures in produced nanocomposites. The tensile properties and impact strength of these toughened nanocomposites are discussed in terms of the MMT and SEBS-g-MA contents and morphology. Adding of nanoclay enhanced and improved the stiffness properties of produced nanocomposites but reduced their toughness properties. Adding of SEBS-g-MA reduced stiffness properties but increased toughness properties. In this project, we gain access to a best, optimum composition which there is a clear trade-off between stiffness versus toughness. A 2K waterborne polyurethane (PU) coating containing 200 ppm nanosilver was prepared and compared to the blank coating. Dispersion of nanosilver in polyurethane was studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Coatings were inoculated with E.coli and S.aureus by the agar-well diffusion method. Result shows that, silver nanocomposite exhibit a reduction on bacteria growth. The surface morphology of the samples after inoculated with bacteria was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The micrographs depict rougher surface on the blank sample compared to the one containing nanosilver, which confirmed antibacterial test results. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra before and after inoculation shows almost no change confirming its antibacterial activity. In this research, effects of solutions and in-situ polymerization on mechanical properties were investigated. Graphene at various contents (0.05, 0.1 and 0.25 %wt) was dispersed with mechanical stirring and sonication techniques in epoxy resin. Tetrahydrofuran (THF) and acetone were used in solution method to reduce the suspension viscosity. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to image the graphene particles. The tension test is performed on fabricated Nanocomposites. In solution method, effects of THF and acetone on epoxy resin were considered and more efficiency for acetone is observed. Also, two methods, vacuum chamber and direct vacuum pump, to achieve low pressure for removing any trapped air were implemented. It is found that behavior of the Nanocomposites via different mentioned methods on mechanical properties is same. Addition of graphene at very low content (0.05 wt %) increases the mechanical properties. However, introducing more filler leads to deterioration of properties. SEM results show that the more filler is added, the more agglomeration can be seen in the specimens. Thus, it is assumed that agglomerations lead to decrease in mechanical properties. Also, results indicate that in-situ polymerization method has better effect on improving the tensile properties rather than the solution method. In this work nanocomposite based on natural rubber and cis-1, 4-polybutadiene (BR (NR/BR/Clay, 60/40/5) were prepared by melt blending in an internal mixer, at a temperature of 80C and rotor speed of 60 rpm . Three types of compatibilizers, epoxidized natural rubber (ENR50); bis (3-triethoxysilyl propyl) tetrasulfide in the name of Si75 and bis (triethoxysilyl propyl) in the name of Si266 have been used. The nanocomposites have been compared together from view point of their curing behavior and mechanical properties. Evaluation of curing properties through using rubber process analyzer (RPA) equipment showed slightly decrease in the scorch and also cure times of nanocomposites by employing of compatibilizers. Minimum torque of rheometry (ML) of nanocomposites was decreased in presence of three types of compatibilizers; however the difference between maximum and minimum torque of rheometrey (MH-ML) was increased which was attributed to increasing of crosslink density. Nanocomposites exhibited higher Mechanical properties with the incorporation of silanes and ENR due to the more intercalation of silicate layers by the rubber which was shown in the X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns. Si (75) and ENR (50) showed to enhance the interactions between NR/BR chains into clay tactoids much stronger than Si (266) as a compatibilizer.
