WHAT TYPES OF FINANCIAL AID ARE THERE? Grants are provided by the federal government to assist students pursuing their first bachelors degree. These funds are not loans and do not have to be repaid unless the students eligibility changes within the academic year or the student withdraws from the university within a certain period of the semester. There are several types of grants: Pell, SEOG, Louisiana Go (Louisiana Residents only), and TEACH. There are two main types of loans to help pay for college. The Federal Perkins Loan Program provides federally funded low interest loans for students based on financial need as determined by the FAFSA process and based on the availability of funding. The Federal Direct Subsidized Loan Program provides low interest rate loans to qualifying students through the Department of Education. Work Study programs allow undergraduate and graduate students to work full-time and part-time while enrolled in school. Contact our office for more information.
