Primary School Festival Leadership Year 5 Tag Tails 2

Today, our sports diploma class were set a Leadership task for a Year 5 Tag Tails Festival, which was organised by Mr Gunning. We were separated into two groups, one group on each pitch. I was in a group with two others; we were all allocated different jobs and roles to make sure the festival ran as smoothly as possible. Jack Cheisure and I were officials on one side and Reuben Caven was the ref. It was all of our jobs to make sure the children knew the rules and were playing correctly. What were my key points I had set and managed to achieve? I motivated the children and encouraged them to win. This made them more confident when playing, because some was shy and this gave them an uplifting self-esteem. I was organised and got each team lined up on the correct line, with two people guarding the hoop; with equal numbered teams. This made my groups part of the festival run smoothly and efficiently, also kept good timekeeping. I explained the rules so every child understood what they could and couldnt do. This made it clear in the childrens mind exactly what they had to do so they could enjoy it and grow in the sport of Tag Tails. I observed well, on one occasion one member of the team took two tags at the same time, to solve this I took one of the tags and gave it back to the other child. I thought this was a great decision on my behalf as a Leader, because not only did it solve the problem, but the child who had lost his tags was happy to come back onto the pitch, and the child who had took them, understood why I had done this, because I explained why and that he could not take more than one tag at a time. I was saying well done! to the teams at the end of the match and cheering them on whilst the game was in play. This encouraged the children and made them more confident to win, I could see in a few individuals that they were growing as the session went on, in my eyes, that is astonishing and I am extremely pleased to see the children improving each time.

I definitely enjoyed being a leader, I was able to provide motivation and encouragement to the children, so they were able to enjoy and be more confident in themselves when out on the court playing.

I think my leadership skills improved massively, not only was I confident when speaking to the children, I also said well done and patted one children on the shoulder because he was the last one standing in his entire team and was against 6 other opposing team members, I thought that was a great achievement, therefore I had to congratulate him because I thought he had done extremely well! Overall, I was exceptionally pleased with my fellow leaders, at the end of each rotational turn around within the teams, one person would collect the tags, another would collect the other teams tags, and one would take the children to their next pitch and bring the new teams to our pitch. By the event being so organised, it not only made the timekeeping so good that we could fit in an extra two matches for the children, but also shows the teachers of the children that we want to be there and give 100% effort in order for the children to have a fun enjoyable time at Bath Community Academy (BCA).
