A resolution authorizing the
Evesham Township Planning
Board to begin preliminary inves-
tigation of areas in potential need

The businesses in question in-
clude the Tri Town Plaza, Olgas
Diner at the intersection of Route
70 and Route 73, G Boys located at
801 W Route 70, Scooters located
at 471 Evesboro-Medford Rd., Bor-
ders located on Route 73 and the
Beneficial Savings bank on Main

These are properties that the
planning board will investigate,
said township manager Bill

the board permission to investi-
gate the status of the properties
to be included in the redevelop-
ment plan.
According to Cromie, the inves-
tigation is expected to last ap-
proximately four months.

Time is running short to lend a
hand to local animal shelters and
rescue groups this holiday sea-
son. Elauwit Medias Deck the
Paws and Help a Collie drive
wraps up next week.
Elsewhere in this paper, you
will find a list of drop spots where
you can leave your donation of
pet food, cat litter, office supplies,
cleaning supplies and more.
This is the ninth year that the
publisher of The Sun newspapers
has held a holiday drive to help
the shelters. Every year, our read-
ers have come through with
truckloads of supplies to help the
animals. This year, with an econo-
my that is struggling and in the
aftermath of Hurricane Sandy,
the need is especially acute.

Jeweler hosts collection
for hurricane victims
By SHANNON CAULFIELD
The Marlton Sun
The need to take care of fellow
New Jerseyans is a feeling Family
and Co. Jewelers owner Angelo
Breaux is familiar with, as he has
been involved with Operation Yel-
low Ribbon. Recently, Breaux has
been running an ongoing dona-
tion drive for the victims of Hur-
ricane Sandy.
On Nov. 4, Evesham Mayor
Randy Brown announced Eve-
sham Cares would be organizing
a four-day event collecting items
for the Jersey shore communi-
ties.
The collection event garnered
seven truckloads of items for the
residents of Jersey City and the
beach town of Belmar.
I publicized this through the
Family and Co. Jewelers email
list and Facebook page, said
Breaux.
Breaux wanted to keep the col-
lection going after Evesham
Cares ended its donation drive,
and reached out to Jersey Strong,
an organization benefitting those
most affected by the storm. He
was then put in touch with Denna
Schofield Reilly of Jersey Strong
through a mutual friend.
We started Jersey Strong a
week after the hurricane, said
Reilly. Angelo reached out. He
wanted to make it a team effort
and help each other out.
Jersey Strong began with Reil-
lys sister expressing her interest
in donating candy to the children
of Atlantic City who would be
missing Halloween. Reilly then
suggested they expand the project
to help as many people as they
can who were affected by the
storm.
According to Reilly, there are

A
s 2012 winds to a close, The
Sun has a couple of special
editions planned.
The first one will be on Dec. 26. It
will be a look back at the major stories
and issues of 2012. Well recap the year
through stories and photos.
The second special edition will be on
Jan. 2. It will be a look ahead to 2013,
and its where we invite you to help us
with our coverage.
Our associate editors are lining up
interviews with local leaders, such as
mayors and school superintendents.
Were preparing a list of questions re-
garding the new year. The idea is to
give the leaders an opportunity to dis-
cuss upcoming issues.
Do you have any questions for your
local officials? If so, please send an
email to us. Our email address for
news submissions appears on this
page and throughout the paper.
Now, were not asking officials to
break out a crystal ball and offer their
prognostications for 2013. No one can
anticipate everything that will happen.
Hurricane Sandy is a prime example.
The storms impact will be felt well
into 2013 and, in some places, even
longer.
But it is possible to set a basic agen-
da for the new year. There may be
some lingering issues from 2012 that
will be wrapped up. There may be
some opportunities or challenges that
already are on the schedule for the up-
coming year. Taxes, for example, al-
ways will be a major topic of discus-
sion. Hopefully, local governing bodies
already are working on plans to make
efficient use of your tax dollar, and
perhaps leaders can share some of
those ideas.
Our editors want to be as thorough
as possible when interviewing local
leaders. They dont want to miss a
question that is on your mind, which is
why were asking for your input.
Send us your questions, and well do
our best to get answers from your local
leaders.
in our opinion
Looking ahead
Questions about 2013 for your local leaders? Send them to us
Whats on your mind?
The Sun will be asking leaders about
their plans for 2013. We want to include
any issues that are on your mind. If you
have a question for your mayor or
school superintendent, email it to us,
and well do our best to get an answer.
Marlton Elks concludes 2012 with two
events at our lodge.
This years South Jersey Food Bank
Drive supports all of Marlton, Voorhees
and Mount Laurel areas and encourages
those with the ability to purchase non-per-
ishable food items, such as can or box
items, and contribute to the drive for South
Jersey Food Bank.
This year, the food bank has been put
under additional stress by the impact of
the storm, Sandy. The South Jersey Food
Bank is asking for additional help to meet
the needs of those families that must
choose between food and rent.
Please drop off any contributions of
non-perishable items to the lodge, located
at 426 Evesboro-Medford Road any Tuesday
or Friday until Dec. 14.
Next up, is the Marlton Elks Veterans
Breakfast on Dec. 16 from 8:30 a.m. until
11:30 a.m.
Each third Sunday of the month, Elks
conducts our $8 all-you-can-eat breakfast
and on Dec. 16, veterans will eat free. Elks
support all service to our community and
country and at this holiday time we extend
a special thanks to those that have served
in our countrys military.
This year, the Marlton Elks have partici-
pated in the Marlton Fall Festival, the Soc-
cer Shoot program in November, conduct-
ed several dinners including our Lobster
night, and just recently completed our spe-
cial needs holiday celebration for local fam-
ilies.
Marlton Elks programs that will soon
complete include the local scholarship
search for Elks and Non Elk related high
school seniors on Dec. 7, and in January
the essay contest in local grade schools.
Marlton Elks is a community group fo-
cused on supporting scholarship, special
children and families, veterans and other
local activities.

ties, or lodge rentals call (856) 983-Elks and

As a way of giving back to our
community, Evesham Township
created the Giving Tree.
Each tree will be decorated
with red bows, which will identi-
fy the gender and age of an Eve-
sham resident encountering a
hardship, while protecting their
identity. The concept is as people
pass through the municipal build-
ing they will take notice of these
bows, select one from the tree,
and read the description of a less
fortunate Evesham individual
who could use our help.
We are asking if you would like
to help make a better holiday for
these individuals by selecting a
gift, not to exceed a value of $10
(you may certainly donate cash
and a gift will be purchased in
your honor).
Please deposit your unwrapped
gift, along with the tag which was
attached to your bow, indicating
gender and age, to the drop off
boxes at the Evesham Municipal
Building, located at 984 Tucker-
ton Rd, or the Gibson House Com-
munity Center, located at 535 E.
Main St. or More Than Gifts, 401
Taunton Lake Road.
Please deliver your gift no later
than Dec. 18, so they may be deliv-
ered to the appropriate recipients
during the holiday season.
If you select a monetary dona-
tion please forward to Evesham
Township, c/o Monica Vanden-
berg : Giving Tree 984 Tuckerton
Road, Marlton NJ 08053.
Please keep the bow as a re-
minder of the difference you
made to a resident in need. As al-
ways, thank you for your kind-
ness and generosity.

Breaux.
To date, approximately 32 van-
loads of items have been collected
and sent to the Brigantine Com-
munity Center, to locations in
Ocean City and Lady Star of the
Sea Church in Atlantic City.
Its crazy, amazing and heart-
warming, said Reilly. Angelo
has been amazing in getting peo-
ple to donate.
The needs have been changing
week-to-week for the collection,
as the needs of the residents have
been changing upon returning to
their homes to begin the rebuild-
ing process. Updates for items are
maintained on Jersey Strong and
the Family and Co. Jewelers Face-
book pages weekly.
The need will be changing to
Christmas gifts in the upcoming
weeks, said Breaux. Right now
we still need cleaning supplies,
items for people with babies,
water and pet food. Theres still a
need.
Additionally, more centers are
donating their spaces to serve
ready-to-eat food and hot meals,
according to Breaux.
Theyre looking for rice, pasta
and beans. All items for hot
meals, said Breaux.
While many people may have
an abundance of clothes to do-
nate, Breaux asks those generous
enough to donate to send what
they have to the Salvation Army.
Weve had bags donated, but
we have taken them to the Salva-
tion Army. Most places arent ask-
ing for clothes now, but the Salva-
tion Army is, said Breaux.
Jersey Strong has been lending
a hand to pet shelters in the area.
Theyve helped shelters from At-
lantic City to Voorhees, said Reil-
ly. There is a list for items needed
for the shelters on the site.
There are currently seven
drop-off locations for donation
items, including Family and Co.
Jewelers, located at 65 E Rt. 70, in
Plaza 70 in Marlton. Hours are
Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to
8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday
from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. An addition-
al Marlton location includes
Annie Sez located at 748 Rt. 73
South with hours Monday
through Friday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
and Saturday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
I would really like to encour-
age people to continue to keep do-
nating. We need to continue to
help these people, said Breaux.

DEC. 12-18, 2012 THE MARLTON SUN 15
There are a lot of things they
need to do, said Cromie.
Recently, the township passed
an ordinance to cleanup aban-
doned, bank-owned properties
within the township. The aban-
doned businesses raised concern,
sparking the investigation by the
planning board to begin restoring
properties to Evesham Town-
ships standards.
Weve had some businesses
go out of business in town. Here
we are in a blossoming communi-
ty, and we have some commercial
residents who dont believe they
need to keep up with standards
we set for residents and new ap-
plicants, said Mayor Randy
Brown at the Nov. 20 council
meeting. Meanwhile, not only
are some of our first-class busi-
nesses upgrading, theyre going
to get better tenants to get better
revenue, and in turn, get better
tax revenue for us.
According to Brown, some new
businesses will be opening in
some of the places of concern.
The grocery store Aldi will be
opening in the Staples shopping
center off of Route 70, a Super
Wawa, a Wawa store with gas sta-
tion, will be opening at the Citgo
across from ShopRite on Route 70,
and an Enterprise will be opened
at the party warehouse location.
Additionally two locations, Sta-
ples and AMC, will be upgrading
their facilities. AMC will also be
restoring its facilities, rebuilding
the snack bar and adding new, up-
graded seats.
Proclamations
Three proclamations were pre-
sented at the meeting, one of
which was given to longtime Eve-
sham Township employee Millie
Bonfrisco, who is retiring.
Township clerk Bonfrisco
served Evesham for 23 years in
many roles throughout her em-
ployment.
Bonfrisco served as secretary
to the township and deputy clerk
before being promoted to the
township clerk. She also worked
as secretary to the township
council, responsible for keeping
minutes from each meeting.
Additionally, she worked as an
election official overseeing mu-
nicipal, school, primary and gen-
eral elections.
We wanted to honor her for
her dedication to Evesham Town-
ship, said Cromie.
Soccer Champs
The Marlton Lightning Red
U14 boys soccer team captured
the NJ U14 State Cup Champi-
onship and were honored by the
township with a proclamation.
The Lightning defeated the
Westfield Premier Soccer Club for
the title. The game went into dou-
ble-overtime, and was eventually
decided by penalty kicks.
The team played six straight
tournament games, only giving
up two goals.
The Lightning finished the sea-
son with a record of 22-7-5 rank-
ing fifth in the state, 40th in the
region and 84th nationally.
Cherokee High School girls
tennis received a proclamation
for their state championship win
versus Cherry Hill East.
The Lady Chiefs triumphed 3-2
in the state match catapulting
their season record to 21-3.
The next meeting
Regular action was taken on
the consent agenda at the meet-
ing.
The next township council
meeting will be held Dec. 18 at
6:30 p.m. at the municipal build-
ing located at 984 Tuckerton Road
in Marlton.

Elite leadership team now expanding a major business
all throughout the East Coast, with a concentrated focus
on NJ/NY/PA. We are looking for motivated, business-

We are a global corporation, and our expansion plans
are getting the attention of people in virtually every
background: from professionals, to business owners,
to medical specialists to folks new to the workplace.
We are involved with a multi-trillion/year deregulation
in telecommunications and now, in the deregulation of
energy! We work with numerous Fortune 100
companies on their back end. In Spring 2011, we
were featured on Prime Time Television based on what
we've done. We teach all aspects of the business.
