MODULE SUBMISSON FORM

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: WEDNESDAY 12TH DECEMBER 12 1pm
RATIONALE An investigation of design led solutions to a range of problems, with a focus on image making and its appropriate commercial applications. Main areas of focus are Visual Identity and Product design. I try to approach all briefs from the same initial problem-solving standpoint. My outcomes rely heavily on the combination of type and original images, using a method of delivery best suited to each individual brief. BLOG. b-yates1013.blogspot.co.uk Staff Use

Title and Brief Summary include a short rationale for each brief

identifying why you chose it, what was the focus of the brief and how long you spent on it. BRIEF 1 Space Publications: A type based investigation of publication design with a focus on print. The focus of this brief was to develop my type and layout skills in relation to print. This is an area I hadnt really developed much before but I felt it was a necessary skills area to develop for my future practice. 2 Weeks Doctor Who Exhibition: A content led investigation of visual identity suitable for exhibition application. The focus of this brief was to continue to develop my visual identity skills. I chose the method of delivery as an exhibition as this has greatly differing requirements to an identity for a small business or product, this allowed me to investigate and evaluate 3 Weeks YCN/Very: A content led investigation of digital application design. My competition brief response was initially going to be a quick turnaround, especially as the live briefs came out late, but after I dropped brief 6 I decided to choose a more substantial YCN brief. The Very brief was open on deliverables, so allowed me to investigate design for a digital platform, something I had not looked at in great detail before this module. 2 Weeks Halloween Product Range: An image led investigation of kids product design with a focus on range. The aim of this brief was to investigate commercial applications of my image making skills. I wanted to use my images to create products and ranges that would be suitable for a commercial context. 3 Weeks Tigerprint Black and White surface pattern competition. This brief was started but dropped in favour of brief 6 as I thought it was a better use of time and skills development. A set of initial patterns were developed & submitted but not applied to a range. The development Design board for this brief is on the CD. 1 Week Bradford International Film Festival Visual Identity This brief was started but then dropped for a larger focus on a competition brief. As the Competition brief was a mandatory requirement I felt it needed a lot more time given to develop a considered response. The Visual Identity for this brief was developed but not placed in context. The development design board can be found on the CD.
