Dear Parents:

January 19th D-G Family Learning Night & Soup Supper 5:00-7:00
The D-G Site Council and Staff will be serving chili, California vegetable medley soup,
peanut butter sandwiches, and bars in the D-G cafeteria from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday,
January 19th. This soup supper is being held in conjunction with our Family Learning
Night. Our Family Learning Night Open House will be from 5:00-8:00. A free-will
donation will be collected which will be used for art and technology equipment.
THERE WILL BE NO SCHOOL THIS DAY.

Breakfast menu on January 12th will be switched with January 15th.

D-G Elementary Memory Books for Sale-$9.00 each. Please send money with your
Student if you would like to purchase a memory book.

Friday, January 30th Thinking Hat Day-

To get us into the spirit of Iowa Tests of Basic Skills participation, D-G Elementary will
have their annual Thinking Hat Day for students and teachers Friday, January 30th, 2009.
All students may make their own hat or decorate one from home. It should be a “special”
hat since it’s a thinking hat.

The Iowa Tests of Basic Skills will be taken by students in grades 2-8 Monday thru
Friday, February 2-13.

Iowa School Alerts is a service that parents can sign-up to be notified directly through e-
mail or cell phone when our district has cancelled classes, or will be dismissing early or
starting late due to weather or other factors. This is a free service that can be found
online at https://schoolalerts.iowa.gov.

Early Dismissal Plan for Your Child

It may be very difficult for you to get through on the school phones to leave a message as
to where you want your child to go when we are forced to call an early dismissal.
Therefore, it is important that you take a few minutes to discuss with your child what to
do in case of early dismissal during school time. Your child should know in advance
what to do if school is dismissed early. Please take a few minutes and make these
arrangements ahead of time. This will help avoid more confusion and possible
miscommunication here at school.

Kindergarten Maturity Clinic-April 28th thru April 30th.
The D-G Elementary Maturity Clinic will be held on Tuesday, April 28th thru April 30th.
There will be no school for our regular kindergarten during the week of April 27th thru
May 1.
Parents who have a child who will be five years old before September 15th, 2009, please
call the office (476-7110) if your child’s name is not listed below or if you have any
questions.
Birth Certificates should be brought in for recording before the clinic.
