Dear Parents The whole school is busy preparing for Christmas and we look forward to seeing you at a number of events in the fortnight before our Christmas holiday. Proud of Barnsley The Final We were very pleased to be one of the three schools in the final of the Proud of Barnsley Schools Category. Unfortunately we were unsuccessful in winning the title but it remains a great achievement to have been nominated. Danceathon for Shelterbox The final total that we raised for Shelterbox was 1431. This is a tremendous achievement. A big thank you and well done to everyone. This money is enough to pay for two and a half Shelterbox boxes. In recognition of our efforts, the local Rotary Club has donated a further 330 and this will mean three boxes can be provided for families affected by disaster. Thank you to the Rotary Club! In the coming weeks we will be tracking the boxes and will be able to see who has benefited from our amazing efforts. PTA (Parent and Teacher Association) We held our first PTA meeting on Friday 30th November. We were pleased that a number of parents were able to join us. The next meeting is on Friday 11th January. If you were unable to attend our first meeting, please feel free to join us. No particular skills are required, just enthusiasm. The meetings are informal and you are rewarded for giving some of your time with a cuppa and a biscuit!
CSI Day at Darton College

Our Y5 children were invited to Darton College on Tuesday to participate in a CSI morning. This was an opportunity for them to develop their scientific skills using state of the art equipment. All the children thoroughly enjoyed the visit and participated enthusiastically in the different activities. We are very grateful to Darton College for providing this opportunity and for covering the cost of the visit. Carols in the Community We hope that on Monday 10th many of our KS2 children will be able to sing carols as the Christmas tree lights are switched on at the Learning Disabilities Unit on Lindhurst Road. A letter with full details can be found on the website if you did not receive one this week. Letters by Email If you would like letters without slips to be emailed to you, please contact the school office for a contact details form.

Parent and Toddler Group The group meet every Monday, 12:30 2:45 pm. Any parents who have a child who is walking are invited. As well as being a place where toddlers can join in fun activities and socialise, it also gives parents the opportunity to meet other parents. Stephanie Carson, one of our Nursery Nurses, is running the session. School Closures Due to Severe Weather Should it be necessary to close the school the following action will be taken: A text will be sent to the mobile number of the main contact using the schools texting service. It is therefore essential that we have the most up to date mobile number. Please call at the school office to update your mobile number if it has changed. Clear information will be broadcast on BBC Radio Sheffield (104.1 FM) and Dearne FM (102 or 97.1 FM) after 8.00am. Staff Changes Mrs Thompson will be leaving in December to have her second child. Mrs Hall, who has worked in both our FS and Y1/2, will be covering her maternity leave. After the Christmas holiday Mrs Knapper will return to being known as Miss Johnston. INSET Change of Date Please be aware that the date for the next INSET day has changed from Monday 18th February to Monday 11th March. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. The technology educationalist, Tim Rylands, who is going to work with staff on the Monday and some of our children on the Tuesday, is now only available on 11th and 12th March.
