ALIANZA LATINA IS NOW...

NAME CHANGE|

Some of you know by now, and many may not, that over the past few months, our agency has undergone a name change. What was previously Alianza Latina is now Community Access Services. Maybe youve seen the Community Access Services ads at a bus stop at a busy intersection, or heard our recent promo on WBLKthats us!

NAME CHANGE|ALIANZA LATINA IS NOW...

COMMUNITY ACCESS SERVICES

Why did we need to change our name?
The name change was motivated by the need to communicate to the public in the areas we serve that our services are available to everyone, since our program area has expanded from just the West Side to include the East Side as well. The new name is also more descriptive of what we are about and will allow our agency to evolve and grow as we seek to diversify our services. Our agencys mission remains the same, however: to facilitate access to health & preventive services for under-served communities. When weve explained the rationale for the name change to clients and community members, people have been very enthusiastic and understanding of why the transition was made. Weve heard years Community Access Services can evolve into an agency that offers a variety of services to promote the overall health and well-being of the communities we serve. We anticipate that we will continue to have a strong emphasis on HIV prevention, but also seek to address asthma other and health dispardisity issues, such as diabetes, pulmonary ease, heart disease and other issues that disproportionately affect minority communities. We hope that we can also round out our programs to offer services in areas such as housing, job skills and community development, in order to contribute to the health of individuals and the stability of Buffalos neighborhoods on many different levels. Since our last newsletter, weve added new staff & programs, which you can learn about on the following pages. Give us a call or stop by to see us if we can be of service to you or someone you know. countless people say, oh, I never really knew what the old name meant anyway, so were confident that the new name will be well accepted as the word gets out.

Who does Community Access Services serve?

Our services are open to anyone, but are promoted primarily to adults and youth from communities of color residing on the West and East Sides of Buffalo. These are areas with disproportionately high incidence of HIV and STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections) and a large need for risk reduction services and prevention education.

Wishing you a joyful holiday season!
