He cnlisted in 1861, and re-enlisted ill 1862. but, on account:.. health, was compelled to resign the command given him, and near the close he came home. Capt. Fleming was by faith a Universalist. Mrs. Flelllin member of the Universalist Church, huviuz joined, in 1880. The death ot/f F'Ieming occurred January 8, H173. In his death, 'Warren County lost ona most valued and representative men, and the community a highly honored ~ Mrs. Fleming resides in West Lebanon, and is one of the most amiablp, Ie.: Western Indiana. She isa great temperance advocate, and famed for her w: charity. WARRI~N D. FLEMING was born in thts county, May 4, 1850, and is of James and Lucinda (Purviaua) Fleming; the former a native of Ohio tbe of Tennessee; the father died in 18,)3. the mother in 1877. The parents 'Of came to this township in 1827, and were truly pioneers. ::\11'. Fleming rece: little schooling, yet he has, by diligence acquired a practical education .. t became of age, he commenced the grocery business at West Lebanon, in.:{ with R. P. Adams; this, after three months. he renounced for farming, and',"' purchased the family homestead, on which he began the manufactU'\i,Y:~ under the firm name of F'Iemi ng, Hamar &; Co. On April 16, 1871. he waa-l to Miss Ettie French, by whom he had one child, Harry L. Mr. Flemin . 'in' began making tile by the steam-drying process, the firm having man~f:' 300,000 during that year, and has since increased its facilities for the wo: Fleming is a radical Republican, and gave his first Presidential vot, Grant. . . ZEBULON FOSTER, one of the pioneers of Warren County, was born: County, Ohio. August 19,1808, and is a son of Richard and Rachel (Browning) both natives of Maryland; the former died in Pike County, Ohio, in 1831, t: in same county in 1856. Mr. Foster received what education he has in the s tion schools of Ohio. He worked for his father unil he was twenty-five, when married to Miss Caroline Ostrander on February 14, 1833, daughter of Dr.': and Margaret Ostrander. To this union were born twelve children-Edward' Eliza IV., Mary. William and Harriet: the others died in infancy. After:' Mr. Foster came to Warren County, where he built a cabin 16x18 feet, an 400 acres, which he subsequently improved. Mrs. Foster died June 3, Au~ust 31. 1877, Mr. Foster was married to Mrs. Juliet Russell, daughter 0 ana Ann Fleming. Mr. and Mrs. Foster are members of the Methodist' Church. Mr. Fosler is a stanch Republican, and has been 'I'ownship Tr five veal's. SAMUEL M. FRAlI:lE, ex-County Commissioner, was born in Prebl Ohio, September 27, 1817. and is a son of Samuel and Elizabeth ('Mar~i the former a native of Virginia, who died in Preble County, Ohio, iU:{l latter a native of North Carolina, who died in this county in 1831. In: parents of Samuel lI:l. Frame removed from Ohio to this township, wk entered and afterward purchased eighty acres. After his mother's death": and he went to Ohio, where they remained until 1839. On October 11, 181 married to Miss Vitriah Ammerman, daughter of John and Rachel Am This union was blessed with nine children-Eliza J., Celia, Rachel C" '.1 Henry C., Minerva A., Elizabeth C., Samuel M. and John L. (deceased). Mr. Frame returned to this county and purchased land, on which he -liV'~ 1882, when he moved to West Lebanon. ~lr. Frame cast his first Presideii for Gen. Harrison, in 18,*0, hut is now a stanch Republican. He has Township Trustee, and as County Commissioner from 1868 to 1881, bridges. a court house and asylum for the poor having been built during.' Mr. Frame is also an Odd F ell 0" , and he and wife are members of Sleepers' Church. ' THO;)lAS GOODWINE (deceased) was born in Kentucky August 10, 181(}; .' was a son of James and Eliznln-t h (Snyder) Goodwine.
