2 Weighting: 40% For this assignment you will develop a new course or revise an existing course to be taught over a duration of 10-15 days. The purpose of this assignment is to give you practice at developing course outcomes, identifying the must know content for a specific course, suggesting learning experiences or learning activities to promote attainment of course outcomes. In the assignment you will justify the need for the course. Title of the Course Course Description: o What is the course about? o Elaborate on the course description to develop, in at least one paragraph, the description of the central, practical theme of the course and how the course will be useful to students. Opportunities for students to think critically, generalize, and apply ideas should be emphasized here. What will the student leave this class with? Rationale: o Why is the course important? The need for the course (ie the difference between what is (what currently exists in your program) and what is desired to accomplish with this course? Why does the learner need this course? What is the societal need for the course? Proposed duration of the course: o The suggestion is a short 10-15 day course (perhaps 6-7 hours a day). Course Objectives/Learning Outcomes statements: o Statements of the content knowledge, attitudes, and skills students will be expected to achieve. o Use the Cognitive and Affective domains (refer to Chapter 5) Course Pre-Requisite/ Co-Requisites: Content: o What is the "must know" content and what is the general support for specific course content you propose? o List 5 topics with brief description of each topic o Describe briefly and concisely the basic ideas that will be incorporated in the course. Support Materials: o Printed materials, websites, etc.

Methodology/ Teaching Strategies:

3 o Approaches (inductive-deductive, problem-based approach, inquiry approach, etc.) o Proposed pedagogical strategies (lecture method, small group sessions, etc.) o Examples of student activities and assignments that will actively engage students Evaluation/Grading procedures: o State how you will measure student progress in achieving the goals and objectives of the course, and how you will evaluate their achievements at the end of the course. o Proposed assessment methods (tests, assignments, projects, etc) Other considerations: o Other aspects of the external environment you need to consider (for example, will you be working with an external agency for a component of your course)

Assignment 2 should be about 14-15 pages (1 spacing) and should be original work. Use New Times Use New Times Roman Font with 12 size font.
