January 2013
JANUARY SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER What a fantastic job our Sunday School students did with our Christmas Program! We had our challenges with weather, changing parts, etc, but they adapted wonderfully. Were so proud of them! Thanks to the teachers, and Karen Block and Jennifer McLaughlin for helping with music. We resume Sunday School on January 6th with our Winter Rally Day. Were hoping our attendance wont falter in the New Year. Our first rotation of 2013 is The Prodigal Son. Our first community service project will be Valentines on February 10 th. Our second rotation will be Ten Men Healed followed by our community service projects of delivering muffins to the homebound on March 17th and handing out Palm leaves on March 24th. There will be no Sunday School on Easter, March 31st. In April well have our final rotation, The Sower, and in May well be doing Mothers Day cards, flower planting, and our last day picnic on May 19th. As always, anyone is welcome to visit our rooms anytime! Joyce Hanson, Director Peace Sunday School 320-528-2354 (Home) 320-304-0727 (Cell) baskets@runestone.net (email)

Thanks to everyone who helped with and generously donated to our Advent Brunch and Bake Sale/HandCrafted Sale. We have very talented bakers, cooks, sewers, quilters, potters, scarf makers, jewelry makers, card makers, ornament painters, knitters, crocheters, and other artists in our Peace family! We took in over $1,200, and those funds will be used for our many mission projects here at Peace, throughout the area and world in 2013.

New Members Class will be held on Sunday, January 27th at 9:30am. If you know of anyone who is interested in joining let Pastor Matthew know.

Thank you to our Altar Guild decorators-- Jan Vipond, Barb Little, and Lois Scherer. They do the beautiful centerpieces for the Fellowship Hall tables all year long, as well as decorating the Hegne Room, kitchen and foyers.

Stewardship of the Good News

For the new year, I want to share one of my favorite bits of writing that has helped me find perspective for myself and for my faith. When I Say I Am a Christian When I say I am a Christian I am not shouting Im clean livin I am whispering I was lost, now Im found and forgiven. When I say Im a Christian... I dont speak of this with pride. I am confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide When I say Im a Christian ... Im not bragging of success, Im admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess. When I say Im a Christian ... Im not claiming to be perfect, My flaws are too visible, but God believes I am worth it. When I say Im a Christian ... I still feel the pain. I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name. When I say Im a Christian ... Im not holier than thou. Im just a sinner that received Gods grace, somehow. ~ Maya Angelou I think humility is one of Gods greater gifts the ability to see ourselves in relationship to the world around us, and to admit that we dont have our lives pulled together perfectly. Humility puts us in a position to learn, to listen, and to love others no matter what our initial judgments may have been. We realize that if we dont have things all together, its likely that the people around us dont have it figured out yet either. And with this perspective, we receive and offer and understand forgiveness at a much deeper level. Our God puts us all on equal terms. We are not always clean livin or exempt from stumbling. We all have failures and flaws. We all carry around both our pain and Gods grace. So as this new year begins, may you begin it with humility, and trust Gods grace. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. James 4:10.

Peace,

~ Pastor Matthew
