CourseObjectives
Itistheoverallobjectiveofthiscourseforstudentstodevelopcompetencyinintermediatetransportphenomena. Bytheendofthecourseyoushouldbeabletodothefollowingthings: Basicmathematicalcalculations.Performcalculationsusingintroductoryconceptsinvectorandtensor algebraaswellascalculusbasedvectorandtensoroperations.Constructbydrawingandlabeling,3 dimensionalbodiesonagraphwithrectangularcoordinatesystemsorcurvilinearcoordinatesystems.Solve ordinarydifferentialandpartialdifferentialequationsusingrectangular,spherical,and/orcylindrical coordinatesin3dimensions. AppliedTransportPhenomena.Solvedifferentialequationbasedbalances(mathematicalmodels)toidentify physicalphenomenaoffluidflow.Writeandsolvemomentum,mass,andenergybalanceequationsbased ongoverningdifferentialandmacroscopicbalancetheoremspresentedbyBSL.Identifywhenuniquefluid phenomenashouldbeassumedincalculationsoftransportoperations(i.e.surfaceforces,gasliquidflow, nonNewtonian,multidimensionalvelocityprofiles,externalflow,internalflow,viscousflow,boundary layers,etc.)andusetheassumptionstosolvecompetentlydifferentialormacroscopicbalanceequations.
