3 With declining numbers of library customers nation-wide and the epidemic of ebooks, the Calvert Library continually searches to find ways to strengthen their relationship with our local public school system so those customers become life-long library users. The Calvert Library is creating a new, innovative program to reach students and teachers with quarterly morning announcements that target public school students in Elementary, Middle, and High Schools in Calvert County. The Calvert Librarys mission is to provide people of all ages with lifelong learning opportunities and the resources they need for personal growth and development, promote reading, provide informational and entertaining materials, provide timely, accurate responses to questions and promote information literacy, encourage students and teachers to use library resources, and to serve as a community gathering place. These announcements will promote Calvert Library resources and programs further strengthening the partnership between the Calvert County Public Schools and the Calvert Library. The brief announcements will be submitted for approval first to Calvert Library then to Calvert County Public Schools Board of Education one month prior to being forwarded onto each school. The morning public service announcements will be read at the respective Elementary, Middle, and High Schools in the County to promote our resources, databases, and programming. This community outreach program corresponds directly with the Calvert Library mission of encouraging students and teachers to utilize library resources. This program will enhance our current partnership with the Calvert County Public Schools by getting information to our customers while they are a captive audience in their schools. The information will also reach school staff who could further promote utilizing the Calvert Library resources.
