Search for Utopia

The unrelenting crime rates and the recent grim incidents reiterating the worry led the youth to break their silence demanding their wrongly unheard yearning for realisation of their right to security paving contours for an uprising against the lackadaisical approach of the government. The not-yet-a-past wave of unrest in the Arab world purportedly tagged as Arab Spring came back to the senses as an epiphany, of political watchdogs in this nip chilly month in India. The vehement protests and a conspicuous need for change have made a cogent movement stronger than what many would have expected it could unfold into. The daily incidents of crime and insecurity abound in our society creating a tense ambience leads one, to ponder over what nation we should learn from and emulate the successes into our own treating it a utopia with credible panacea. The random guesses a typical Indian would proffer as the threshold of an ideal society start off with the dearest America topping, or at least leading the way, for decades in its quest for envisaging the values of life and helping its citizens stand apart, rather stand in the front, on most international horizons. A typical Indian may count out quite a handful of valuable Indian origin Americans who contributed to the society, who themselves may not consider themselves Indian anymore. Though the fan following of our yesteryears neighbour is a futile point to debate, the society that they experience in their new land is, most would agree, not the utopia they saw from thousands of miles away. Whereas, the racism issues have neither died nor curtailed, some events like the Wisconsin shooting reminding of the fear ethnic minorities live with everyday. The pushing of an Indian origin man on a metro track by a xenophobic reiterates their worries. Be it the growing firearm related crimes or other planned massacres, the nation has endless troubles endemic to it. The northern neighbour Canada is no less indifferent to a huge Indian origin population in the country, often compared to Mexicans when it comes to their jobs in the country. What Mexicans are to US, Indians are to Canada, performing jobs that the affluent aborigine population abstain from taking up. Europe and Australia are centres of xenophobic hatred to a level higher than the North Americans are known for. Signboards hanging outside restaurants or office spaces desiring janitor services or cleanliness staff, do not mind clarifying that Indians and Chinese are not invited. The yesteryears forgettable acts of brutal killings in Australia directed parochially against Indian students give a chilling reminder to the student visa applicants to the country. A plausible theory of a peculiar hatred towards Indians among the white skinned world has been a combination of two factors. The first is a confusion of Indian ethnicity to the Arab world and its closeness in belief to the jihad proponents, and their indifference at addressing the issue. The second and even peculiar one is the seclusion of Indians in other countries, and their abstinence from mingling into otherwise fun-loving

modern cultures. This seclusion has made phobias turn into indifference and hatred, and led to a treatment meted out to them as one serving as a constant threat. These admired parts of the world fail to impress the utopian crown for obvious assertions, though the gravity and form of concerns there are different than those India has. A further search for the coveted title makes one look around the neighbours for some lessons. The growing super power China leaves little hope when emulating the peoples lifestyles, as their society has itself looked up to us when talks of freedom and democracy arise. The recent brutalisation of the Delhi girl sparked up protests which were reported in the Chinese state-controlled media as a lesson to the Chinese public that Indian governments are inefficient in managing public and how good they fare on this front. The following events that awoke not just the country but government itself, and its immediate response was applauded by our Chinese neighbours, and their strategy backfired, raising a debate over a much needed Indialike freedom in Chinese press and public. The following events here in India were unfortunately discontinued by the Chinese rulers who saw their failure in their prudent approach. Moving eastwards to Myanmar that was recently ravaged by incidents of Rohingya Muslims massacred in genocide attacks raised brows internationally. The killings of Shia Muslims or the Ahmadis sect, and a directed hatred towards Hindus and Sufis, clearly makes our western neighbour devoid of any credit. A final attempt at finding some hope in the war ravaged Arab world or the African nations goes in vain, given the immense distrust among ruling dispensations towards their changing rulers and the attitude meted out to the general public. The African nations have never in their history proved salubrious enough to show a guiding path to other onlookers, but today it stands in the midst of a never-before-seen tragedy, disturbed by displaced terrorist groups, autocratic dictators, and corrupt regimes selling the regions resources to Europe and US for paltry luxuries to some. An overall outlook of the prominent regions around the world brings one to reckon that the state of challenge India faces is experienced by its foreign friends alike in other facets to varying degrees. But a conclusion of India being doomed by challenges that others would never stand, is commensurate to running away from the very fact the problems arise. The cause and solution of the challenges rests in its peoples thoughts and deeds, and one will definitely heal a blighted society if it introspects and stops passing the buck.
