Innovation and Entrepreneurship Trimester: V (Elective)

Instructor: Arup Baishya Office: 407 E mail: arup.b@ebsmail.in Office Hours for students: 15 to 17 hours Course Objectives: The major emphasis of the course will be on creating a learning system through which management students can acquaint themselves with the special challenges of starting new ventures and introducing new product and service ideas. This will involve working together to investigate, understand and internalize the process of founding a startup company and inculcating corporate entrepreneurship in established firms. Required Text: Entrepreneurship: Successfully launching New Ventures by Bruce R Barringer and R Duane Ireland; Pearson Education. Suggested Pleasure Readings: 1. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill 2. Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki 3. Term Project: Identifying drivers and impediments of entrepreneurship in India Project Time line: Background study, literature review and objective by 10-th Dec 2011 Field work and survey (appropriate questionnaire would be provided) 10th Jan 2012 Analysis and Conclusion by 17 th Jan 2012 (both electronic and hard copy) *Projects with any sort of plagiarism (including copying from each other) would not be evaluated. a Pedagogical Style and Course Policy: Classes are divided into theory and practice exercises. Discussions and assignments form a major part of the learning experience. Students are expected to read the text and case studies/articles in advance. Practice work would be assigned in the class, EBS Blackboard or via e mail. Students are expected to follow utmost academic integrity. Any violation would result in failing the course. Students are required to submit all assignments and research projects on or before the deadline; late submissions are not accepted. The language of instruction is English. If required, I would be glad to offer remedial assistance on English for Business Communication.
