EMERGENCY AID
TARGET AUDIENCE Any member of staff who feels that a basic knowledge of first aid would be useful in their working environment. OBJECTIVE This course will focus on dealing with emergency health situations before medical help arrives. It is a basic course designed to give staff the basic knowledge to deal with the most common emergency health situations in the first instance. THIS IS NOT A HSE REGULATED COURSE AND WILL NOT CERTIFICATE THE PERSON TO BE A REGISTERED FIRST AIDER, IF NEEDED AS PER RISK ASSESSMENT. BREAKAWAY TECHNIQUES For staff working in Learning Disability Services (Low/Medium Risk)
TARGET AUDIENCE Staff who work in Learning Disability Service areas where low level physical intervention training is required i.e. some Community Homes where staff are NOT lone workers. FREQUENCY OF ATTENDANCE This is a mandatory training requirement and attendance is required on an annual basis. OBJECTIVE To provide staff who work in the Learning Disability Services in areas where higher levels of physical intervention are not normally required, but low level holding may be utilized. PROGRAMME OUTLINE Discuss signs and indicators which suggest an assault may occur Look at the use of De-escalation techniques and verbal / non-verbal skills Discuss legal and ethical issues regarding defence of self. Discuss environmental factors and how they can affect aggression Demonstrate use of protective stance Understanding of spatial awareness Use of force as a last resort Practise a variety of breakaway techniques Post incident reporting and debriefing Practice a variety of low level holding techniques.
