Classroom Management and Equity Plan In order for students to learn best, an atmosphere of respect and equality must

be established. At the beginning of each term, rules must be set in place so that students know what is expected of them and what consequences they may incur. The following plan has been divided into two sections: routines (every day practices) and procedures (courses of action). Routines Beginning of class Students will be greeted at the door to encourage a positive atmosphere. To begin class, students sit in their assigned seats while attendance is taken. After attendance has been taken, any announcements will be made and the order of business will be discussed. Once all matters have been settled, the large group discussion, small group discussion, or in-class activities will begin. End of class In order to gain the most amount of class time, students must wait until the bell to pack up their belongings. Laboratory Routines All laboratory activities will be set up ahead of time for ease of use to the students. To begin laboratory activities, the written materials are passed out to the students and the lab is read through as a large group. While reading the instructions, the teacher emphasizes any concepts that could pose difficulty to the students. Once the students are ready, they should go to their worktable and begin the lab. Seating In order to maintain an effective learning environment, students in the classroom will be provided with a seating chart. This will allow for ease when learning student names and also lessen the chance of unnecessary talking. On the first day of school, students coming into the classroom will be assigned their seats. Objectives and Assignments During every class, the agenda for the day will be written on the board. This will give the students an idea of what to expect from the lesson. All upcoming assessments for the unit will be written on the board at the beginning of class on Monday. This will ensure that all students are aware of the schedule even if they are not in class on a particular day.

Procedures Student-Teacher and Student-Student Interaction To create an environment of reciprocal respect among the students a set procedure of how to gain acknowledgment will be in place. This includes raising ones hand or politely attaining the teacher's attention while respecting the ideas and rights of others. If for any reason a student needs to leave their seat to attend to a matter that will enhance their learning, such as sharpening their pencil, they do not need to ask permission. Coming and Going from the Classroom If a student needs to leave the classroom to attend to a personal matter, permission is needed to exit the room. Due to the circumstances of everyday life, sometimes students cannot make it to class at the schedule timed. On these days, the student should enter the classroom and go directly to their seat so avoid class disruption. During a work period, the student should talk to the teacher about the late arrival. On days when a student needs to leave class before the dismissal time, the student must talk to the teacher before class to make sure important information is given before leaving. Assignments Due to the nature of the class, activities will vary depending on the topic discussed. Some days students will work individually, while on other days students will work in small groups. When small groups are formed, students may move their desks to better serve the group atmosphere. In order to keep a clean, engaging classroom, chairs must be moved back to the assigned spot before dismissal. If a student is absent, any handouts given in class will be available upon returning to school, while notes given in class can be copied from a classmate or downloaded from the blog. Consequences First Offense- The student will receive an indirect, unobtrusive intervention to serve as a reminder to the student. Second Offense- After class the student will have a private, direct intervention to deter the undesirable behavior. A parent or guardian will also be contacted. Third Offense- The student will receive a detention and a parent or guardian will be contacted. Fourth Offense- The student will be referred to the proper administrative personnel.
