Principals Message
The Year of the Transition The 2013-14 school year will bring new changes to our district and more importantly to our school. The boundaries for Draper Elementary have a few adjustments that need to be noted and the district-wide grade level reconfiguration will bring additional adjustments to our student population. We will all miss having sixth grade at our school, but I am supportive of this change and know our students will do great at their new school. We also will have new students joining us from the south and lose a few students from the east of our current boundaries. If you have not had an opportunity to look at the approved new boundaries, please visit the district website www.canyonsdistrict.org. Our safe school walking routes are also being looked at closely as new construction is happening all around our city. Last Spring, Draper City added in new sidewalks along Fort Street and may still be adding additional safe routes for our students to use as they travel to and from school. Please be aware that current bus routes may be impacted by some of this construction in Draper. I will share updates as I get them.

Valentines Day Class Parties

Class parties will be held on Valentines Day, Feb. 14. The PTA will provide sugar cookies and frosting for all our classes. Room parents should pick up their cookies, frosting and paper products in the gym between 1-1:30 p.m. Thank you to Little Dutch Boy Bakery in Draper for providing the cookies at a discounted cost.

Dragons Win State Creative Pursuits Bowl

Kami Abercrombie's sixth-grade team are the State Creative Pursuits Bowl champions. The team consists of Karli Branch, Mia Hadden, Sarajane Hale, Hunter Harris, and Ethan Wilsher. Creative Pursuits is a content, process, and product program using productive thinking to develop students creative skills in solving problems. Great job Dragons!

Februarys Dragon Challenge Focuses on Fitness

The Dragon Challenge for February is focused on fitness. We are going to ask students to track and log their activity outside of school. Each student will need to verify that they have completed four days a week of 30 minutes or more of activity. Watch for a calendar to come home.

Thanks to Fresh Market for its Support

We express appreciation to Fresh Market in Draper for its continued support of our school. The store donates popsicles for the Fun Run and teacher thank you gifts. It also donates a portion of all receipts turned in by our parents. Just a reminder that there is a drop box in the front hall where all Fresh Market receipts can be submitted.

Fourth Grade Presents Utah Program

Our fourth-grade program about Utah was a huge hit! Students shared real stories of their ancestors helping build our great state. They sang about every county, making sure to save their favorite for last (Salt Lake). We even learned about several of the early Draper settlers. Our fourth-grade teachers are Jennifer Asay, Lisa Pixton, KLynn Johnson and Yuan-Tai Hung.

PTA Presidents Message

We all know that February is the month of Love. I enjoy decorating my house, making treats, attending Valentine class parties and cooking a heart-themed dinner for my family after all its the only time I can get a house full of boys to actually enjoy red and pink everywhere! But as I think of how much I love those crazy boys and the rest of my family, I realize that the old saying that love is spelled TI-M-E is truer than we realize. Its not about buying the new electronic gadget or wearing the latest name-brand, its about spending time with our kids. Sometimes the time is spent doing fun activities and sometimes its spent doing a chore or teaching a lesson, but as long as its spent together its LOVE. Help them learn a new math fact, work on the spelling bee words, or come to Dads & Donuts and White Ribbon Week. Ive never seen an epitaph that read I wish Id spent more time at work! Make it a goal to show some extra love to your family this month by giving one extra moment in time, during this Month of Love!

Thank you for your help and support as we make this transition.
