16 Behold, mysoul delighteth in the things of the Lord; and my heart pondereth continually upon the things which I have seen and heard. I read verse 15 like this: For my soul delighteth in the scriptures, and my heart pondereth them, and studieth them for the learning and the prot of myself and my children. Like Nephi, my soul really does delight in the scriptures. I love the Book of Mormon. I love the way it makes me feel as I study it and the closeness to my Heavenly Father it brings. I know that through its teaching I can achieve happiness in this life, and spend eternity with the ones I love most, my family. In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
! !
The Prophet Nephi is one of my greatest heroes. I can relate to him through his many struggles, trials, strengths, weaknesses, his great successes, and never ending faith. In 2 Nephi 4: 15-35, he gives us some of the greatest insights to his most intimate thoughts, feelings, struggles, temptations, and purpose for his writings. 15 And upon these I write the things of my soul, and many of the scriptures which are engraven upon the plates of brass. For my soul delighteth in the scriptures, and my heart pondereth them, and writeth them for the learning and the prot of my children.

Speed King!-Over the holidays, Brother Tom Pursley put on a full racing suit, climbed into a real Nascar and tried his foot on the pedal at Phoenix International Raceway! He had to take a short lesson and then was given free reign on the course, which was HUGE! He sped his way around 16 laps and Im sure he came in 1st place, well maybe. . . ok not even close, but he had a great time and the family had a good time watching him try his speeding skills at a place where it is actually permitted. ( Im sure Brother Long is thankful for that!). For further details, stop him in the hall with a checkered ag.
Announcements:
James Pursley and Lara Cluff
!
James and Lara were married on January 19th. James is the son of Bishop Rob and Michelle Pursley. Lara is from the Pacic Northwest and came to the Gila Valley to go to school. She knows now that she came to meet James! Their wedding was lovely and the food was delicious. They will be living in Thatcher while James goes to school. Congratulations James and Lara!
! On January 10th, Central 1st ward held their rst Relief Society conference. With Ward conference being the same month we thought this would be very appropriate. Our Theme was taken from a quote by Emma Smith from the rst Relief Society meeting March 17, 1842, "We are going to do something extraordinary...". As a presidency, we wanted to remind the sisters of their worth and quality. We also stressed the differences in each one of us as in all the leaves in Autumn. It is difcult to nd a perfect leaf with no aws. We often see ourselves differently than Heavenly Father sees us but when we allow Heavenly Father to use us in his innite wisdom we do "extraordinary" things.

Meet our Missionaries
!
Sister Cash-- I am from South Jordan, UT . I have been out for 11 months. Sister Chadwick and I ew out together on the same plane. I have served in East Tucson, Sauharita, Sierra Vista, and here in the Gila Valley. I have two brothers and one sister. While I am from South Jordan, I have also lived in Elko, NV and also Australia I love being a missionary in the Tucson, AZ mission. The Central 1st Ward is amazing! ! Sister Chadwick-- Hello! I am Sister Chadwick from LaGrande, Oregon which is a small town in Northeast Oregon. I have been on a mission for a year, and was called on a Spanish speaking mission in the Tucson, AZ mission. I have served in Central, South, and the West parts of Tucson in Spanish branches. -- I am the oldest in a family of six. My brother is also serving a mission in Cochabamba, Bolivia. I attended BYU-Idaho for 2 1/2 years and have about a year left, studying Elementary Education. --I love being a missionary! My favorite thing is watching people change as they come to learn about and act upon the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that Jesus Christ live, and I know that He loves us. Our Heavenly Father loves us, and wants us to be happy as we grow and progress. I am so grateful for the privilege I have to serve the Lord as a missionary.

BAPTISMS
We moved moved back to Thatcher from Florida in June. We have spent the last 10 years in Florida, and loved it, but decided it was time to come back tobe closer to family and so the kids could go to school here. Cami is from Thatcher, and Aaron is from New York. We have 3 kids. Brandon is 14, Lexi is 10, and Ethan is 4. Cami works as a nurse at Mt Graham Hospital, and Aaron is a school teacher in Safford. Brandon has had fun and Lexi, Cami,Aaron, Brandon stayed busy with football and wrestling this year, Ethan and Lexi is enjoying piano lessons, dance, and gymnastics. Ethan's just loving hangin out and running here and there with everyone! We don't have much free time, but when we do, we like to go on family vacations, visit family in NY, go camping, and are hoping to visit our friends back in Florida this summer. We love Central Ward, and are so thankful for the way thingsworked out so that we could be here, and look forward to getting to know more of you.
Skylar Waters
Skylar was baptized in December. She is the daughter of Britni Ballard Claridge and Bradley Claridge. Skylar had a very happy day as you can see by her big beautiful smile. Congratulations Skylar!
Nathan Taylor
Story submitted by - Grandma Nancy Taylor
We had a very beautiful baptism service for Nathan on Jan. 5. A lot of friends and family came to share in this special occasion. His family came from Kingman and Dad performed the baptism. Sister Goldsmith and Sister Cash sang I Feel My Saviors Love as a special number. It was a wonderful program and we truly did feel our Fathers love in that room. We are so very pleased at Nathans decision to take this very important step in his eternal progression. in Nathans words, it was awesome!
This years Pinewood Derby event was a real wheel turner! The boys got out the sand paper and paint for the wood and graphite to lube up the tires. Here are the results: Wolves: Leland Thompson Bears: Cole Mulleneaux
Webelos: Porter Henderson Win or lose, all the boys had fun racing and were good sports--and so were the fans! Thanks to the Lon and Rachel Whitmer for taking care of the track and the timing device. Rumor has it that the track completely broke after the last race! Wow! Miracles do happen. the races were all completed and the boys had a great evening.
