Family and friends said their last goodbye to a man whose body was found set alight on a roadside in Auckland. Shalvin Prasad, 21, was found still ablaze on the side of McRobbie Rd in Kingseat last Thursday, and his Toyota RAV 4 was found about 10km from the crime scene last Sunday. Funeral for Shalvin started at 12.30pm at the Manukau Memorial Gardens on Puhinui Rd, Papatoetoe. Police are examining all the evidence and have appealed to any business owners in the Plunkett Ave area that have CCTV footage that could help with the investigation. Detective Inspector Dave Lynch of Counties Manukau police said earlier that Shalvin's disappearance was way out of character and there were no reasons why he would go missing or take his own life. "Based upon what we now know about Shalvin coupled with the fact that some personal possessions are still missing while it is believed that another person or persons are involved in his disappearance and death," he said. Shalvin's brother, Pravin Prasad, said his sibling was the youngest and was "full of life". "Family and friends was the centre of his world," he said. "He loved to play soccer and enjoyed his job. He was probably the most innocent 21-year-old you could meet." The police are asking anyone who had seen Shalvin or spoken with him within the 48 hours before he went missing to contact police. Police are also interested in two other cars, both seen speeding from McRobbie Rd just before 6.30am on
Thursday. Both vehicles carried on straight through the intersection into Kingseat Rd travelling in the Pukekohe direction.
One vehicle was described as blue or silver while the other was white. Police are urging the drivers of these vehicles to come forward to be
eliminated from the investigation. This is a remote location and both drivers will be well aware that their vehicles will be of interest during the investigation. He warned that "the longer they wait to come forward will increase the level of interest police have in them and we urge them to contact us as soon as possible". Police are yet to establish what kind of accelerant was used to light the fire. Victim Withdrew Thousands Before Death Tens of thousands of dollars were withdrawn from the bank account of Shalvin Prasad the day before he was found burned to death. Police believe the withdrawal is directly linked to the death of Shalvin Prasad. He withdrew the money over the counter from a teller at the ASB in Ronwood Ave. People may well speculate as to how a 21-year-old came to have a large sum of money but at this stage of the investigation police emphasize there is no indication Shalvin was involved in illegal activity. He had saved the money from his job over a long period, Lynch said. Shalvin's family noticed the money was missing on Wednesday night, after he went to play pool with friends and never returned. Police are seeking public help to find the money and those who have it. We are seeking assistance from anyone that knows or was associated with Shalvin who have heard any conversation that he had withdrawn

MCancer Initiative
A new initiative to mark the World Cancer Day in the hope of raising awareness of this killer disease was launched on Monday. The Fiji Cancer Society in partnership with the Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation launched Vodafone's mCancer program which aims to raise awareness on the types and symptoms of cancer, prevention, risk factors, virus exposure and much more via sms and wireless network. Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation director Divik Deo said because of the ubiquity of mobile phones, mCancer sought to reach a larger population of Fiji with an aim to steer people away from cancer through raising awareness. "mCancer is a not-for-profit program that will benefit the unreachable, underprivileged and vulnerable communities as well as the general populous," said Mr Deo. mCancer services will be free for now and a charge of three cents will apply after three months. All the profit will go towards the Fiji Cancer Society. Cancer survivor, Dr Tukaha Mua of the Fiji Cancer Society said this was an important initiative and would make a big impact. "This is also a big source of income for Fiji Cancer Society," Dr Mua said. "The society relies on charity to be run and nearly $100,000 is needed every year to cater for all sorts of expenses." The mCancer program was launched by Miss Fiji 2012 Drue Slatter who said she was fully behind the mCancer initiative. "This is very relevant as nearly everyone has a mobile phone these days and it's an important health initiative as well." mCancer can be accessed by dialing *979# and following the steps from there on. All tips will be compiled by the cancer advisory doctors.

Rounds Ganilau is likely to contest the 2014 elections under a new party banner. Speaking to FijiLive, Ganilau said she has been approached by a few political parties to consider joining a united political party. However, she refused to name the parties that have approached her but has confirmed that she was discussing the possibility of combining so they would be able to meet the criteria of new Political Parties Decree. She added that at the moment there was nothing as a formal united front but political parties have discussed about the possibility of this. Moreover, she is a bit hesitant as she is not willing to lose the identity of her party.
Russell Tuvici has not attended classes for the past two weeks because the head teacher and management of his school in Labasa have refused to accept school fees arrangements with his father. Tuvici is a Class Six student at a prominent school and owed some fees from last year. "I really want to go back to school. I am waiting for my father and the school to come to an agreement before I can return to school," Tuvici said. His unemployed dad Timilai Tuvici claimed his son was turned away on the first day of school despite attempts to make arrangements for the payment of fees, including last year's outstanding
fees. The casual worker said he pleaded with the management to give him time but they turned him down. "At least, they should have considered our family background as most of us are financially-challenged and we have more than one child to send to school. We will pay their arrears but we just need some more time to do so." Permanent secretary for Education Doctor Brij Lal has again stated that schools were not allowed to send children home for non-payment of fees. The school management refused to comment on the issue.
US Ambassador to Fiji Frankie Reed visited the Savusavu Public Library as part of the American road show in Savusavu this week. She also made a sizeable gift of library books to the Savusavu Public Library and commended the efforts of the children, librarians and a US Peace Corps volunteer for maintaining an informative library and increasing an appreciation for reading among children and youths in Savusavu. Ms Reed interacted with 20 children
who participated in the library's Globetrotting program. She said the Globetrotting program was facilitated by the Peace Corps volunteer and taught children between 8 and 14 years about countries of the world, providing them an opportunity to learn about the respective countries' language, food, people, culture and tradition. "From January 29 to February 2, children have been learning about the United States of America, setting a backdrop for the ambassador's visit to the library," Ms Reed said.

Big opportunities exist to develop our Super Yacht industry, says the managing director and chief executive of Port Denarau Marina, Nigel Skeggs. Fijis market share from Super Yachts is tiny on a global perspective with huge opportunities to develop, he said. Mr Skeggs highlighted last year, we had 37 Super yachts visit our shores which is just 0.79 per cent of the global inventory of 4650 Super Yachts. More importantly is that Super Yachts generated $57 billion dollars in global
Fiji while visiting by Super Yacht, he said. Exciting times Mr Skeggs described this to be an exciting time for tourism in Fiji. We are seeing great investment levels from the private sector both in new and exciting activities as well as the revamp of existing infrastructure, he said. New markets are opening all of the time and from our perspective we are seeing a tangible growth in the number of Super Yachts visiting Fiji and the Pacific.

The Fijian and the Chinese governments are looking at ways to deepen bilateral relations between the two countries. Fijian Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola met his Chinese counterpart, Yang Jiechi in Beijing, China. The meeting was held to discuss many issues concerning the two countries and deliberate on ongoing developments that form part of the Fiji-China bilateral relations. The visit by Kubuabola was critical as it presented an opportunity for the Fijian Government to thank the current Government of the Peoples Republic of China for its unwavering support towards Fiji over the years.
Kubuabola also took the time to discuss about the developments in Fiji regarding the implementation of its roadmap towards the 2014 democratic elections. The bilateral relations between our two countries have really grown from strength to strength and this is owing to the commitment by our two Governments to forge stronger partnerships in the various areas of our common interests, Kubuabola said. Fiji remains steadfast in upholding the One China Policy and is fully committed to continue to work closely together with the Government of China to effectively address issues of mutual interests between our countries, according to Kubuabola.
Airport Terminal Services staff, Ligieta Vorivori (left) serves Kelly and Paul Davison at one of the check-in counters at the Nadi International Airport. Inter Island Airways (Fiji) Limited has requested for counter at six airports in the country as it prepares to start operations. Airports Fiji Limited is currently looking into the requests made by the soon-to-arrive new domestic airline service provider, Inter Island Airways (Fiji) Limited. Airports Fiji acting chief executive, Naushad Ali, confirmed meeting the president of the airline, Barney Sene last week, where the airline presented some of its requirements. They have basically given us the things they require and one of the things we are currently working on is counter space and scales for them in at least six airports, he said. Mr Ali said Inter Island Airways (Fiji) has asked for counters at airports in Nadi, Nausori, Labasa, Matai, Savusavu and Lakeba. The next step for Airports Fiji is we are identifying where we can give them counter space and scales in the various airports they have asked for, he said. Once we are ready and everything is confirmed, probably by next week, we are looking to meet them again. As Airports Fiji is still working on the associated costs of getting these counters built, Mr Ali could say exactly how much they would have to spend. Nevertheless, he has assured that Airports Fiji is more than happy to assist Inter Island Airways wherever possible as discussions between the two parties continue. Hangar space at Nausori Mr Ali said Inter Island Airways (Fiji) is also looking for one of the three hangars currently available at Nausori Airport. The old Air Pacific hangar is available and we are willing to lease this for five years, he said. But Mr Ali said the hangar needs refurbishment as it is not in a very good state. He also said they can lease it only for a period of five years because of Airports Fijis 10-year development plan for Nausori Airport. We will then want to start the upgrade for an international hangar as per our development plans, he said. Two out of three hangars are already leased; one to Northern Air and the other to a company for Neil Underhill. Competition good for people Mr Ali believes the entry of Inter Island Airways (Fiji) will be good in terms of competition and other things. If there is competition, it will benefit all Fijians and Airports Fiji will benefit with increased revenue, he said. Consumers will benefit will cheaper airfares and more frequent flights.
Fiji is to implement a new national minimum wage in the second quarter of this year. The move will be a first for Fiji and will apply to all sectors. Ministry of Labour permanent secretary Taito Waqa said a nationwide survey and stakeholder consultations
will be carried out before it becomes law. This is part of the wages reform that government is carrying out," Waqa said. He said the wage order would also ensure workers are not exploited by unscrupulous employers.

Relations and Employment, Mr Jone Usamate announced that more employment opportunities have opened up in the United Arab Emirates for Fijians in the tourism sector. Minister Usamate revealed that the newly commissioned Foreign Employment Service (FORES) at the Ministrys National Employment Centre (NEC) continues to work around the clock with Fijis embassy in the UAE and relevant agencies in Fiji to ensure more Fijians are exported as workers to the UAE. In the tourism industry, Fijian workers warmth in their exceptional customer service and their bula smile. Endowed with these assets and the ability to work in a cross cultural environment, our workers are in demand in the United Arab Emirates, Mr Usamate said. The Minister highlighted that the additional request for hotel workers was received from the UAE tourism sector this week, even as applications for healthcare work continue to flow into the office. These positions were advertised February 2nd. There are a total of 21 vacancies and the invitation of Expressions of & waiter, chef, food & beverage personnel (4 categories), front office personnel, housekeeping (2 categories), guest services (spa & retail), fitness instructor recreation, executive butler, events executive sales, guest activities coordinator, information technology supervisor, kids club/child care attendant, security officer control room administrator, maintenance technician, A/C technician engineering and plumber engineering. Potential applicants should know that the UAE market is very competitive as Fijian workers will be assessed by the UAE clients against other applicants from the rest of the world considering the fact that other workers from America and Europe are also seeking work in the UAE in the wake of the US and European financial and economic crisis. However, I am confident that we can hold our own against these challenges based on the proven versatility of our workers in the international arena, the Minister said. The FORES has developed a comprehensive and modern International HRM best practice governance framework benchmarked to ISO 9001:2008, ISO 26000 and Business Excellence criteria on which
The developers of Port Denarau Marina have put their heart and soul into this infrastructure on Denarau Island. And it is no surprise they have been shortlisted in the nominations for the 2012 AON Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards in the Incentive Events category. Managing director and chief executive, Nigel Skeggs, said they were proud to have been recognised by their peers within the tourism industry for the contributions they have made. This is both in terms of developing nautical tourism as well as providing an upmarket gateway for the transportation of the various hotels customers who use Port Denarau Marina as a transit point, he said. We have been recognised for this extensively on an international front so it is really nice to see the same recognition within Fiji. Nomination attribution We asked Mr Skeggs as to what was it that formed the basis of them getting shortlisted. Mr Skeggs said their continued investment in a market that is worth over $30 million per annum to the
Fijian economy was one of the reasons. It was our continued investment in infrastructure to support the Fijian tourism and commitment to marketing Fiji to the world for visiting yachts and Super Yachts, while providing them with world class services while they are here, he said. Plans for future And whilst the development on the Port Denarau Marina may seem to have neared its peak, Mr Skeggs has assured this is not the case. We are not finished yet and look forward to implementing many exciting new plans in the future, he said. The awards Tourism Fijis AON Fiji Excellence in Tourism awards is annually run by a committee of independent tourism industry members, to honour those who showcase quality and excellence in the industry at a prize giving gala event. The award recipients represent the most outstanding members of our booming tourism industry. The awards will be held at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa on Denarau Island on February 22.
clients specifications for candidates are more than adequately met. Minister Usamate revealed that this modern framework does not only assess the core technical competencies of applicants, but also the essential generic skills and needed behavioral skills compatible with the religious, cultural and social values of the host country, including the legal, political, economic, security, technological and other environmental factors. The FORES has also designed a modern and progressive value-based pre-departure training package and counseling sessions for successful candidates to be exported to the UAE based on the anticipated challenges faced by Fijian workers overseas. Mr Usamate said he is hopeful that the negotiations in the UAE will bear fruit so that Fijian workers will be exported under Governments newly established Foreign Employment Service. He also confirmed that 100 security personnel have been processed under the Ministry of Defense targeting the UAE market for regularization under the FORES. Twenty-five Fijian bus drivers employed by bus company Go Wellington are facing deportation after working around the city for up to six years. The men were granted annual work visas and employed by NZ Bus from 2006 when bus driving was listed on Immigration New Zealand's skills shortage list. Now Immigration NZ is refusing to renew the visas because the shortage no longer exists. The Fijian Indian men brought their families with them, and had proved themselves to be honest, hard-working and law-abiding citizens, Tramways Union Wellington branch president Evan Keay said. "It really does appear to be a case of blatant exploitation. These workers and their families were encouraged to come here. They've been used to fill gaps and bolster the New Zealand economy. "The Fijian bus drivers do not have a pathway to residence. All of them have been granted additional visas of up to 12 months. This step has been taken to give the drivers sufficient time to organise their affairs and arrange their return home." Outgoing Immigration Minister Nathan Guy said: "I sympathise with these bus drivers but their work visas were always temporary with a limited timeframe. Our policy is that we look for New Zealanders first for jobs, before turning to overseas workers. "I've offered a number of options to the drivers, including a one-year extension to their visas to give them more time to make plans."

so an ordinary fisherman at our rural communities can understand how it can affect their families considering the fact that many families rely on our marine reserves for livelihoods, Mr Wainiqolo said. Mr Wainiqolo stressed that government will be working with various counterparts to better address this issues at local level with awareness programs and programs provided to divisional offices. Meanwhile the Maritime Safety chief executive officer Neil Slack said that the maritime authority will ensure that all fishing vessels comply with the various laws. We have a legal framework and the capacity to ensure that flagged vessels and foreign vessels using our ports are not involved in illegal fishing, Mr Slack said. Mr Slack said last year teams from the European Union were in the country to see if Fiji was complying with IUU regulations however it was unfavourable as Fiji was identified among countries combating IUU fishing issues. The two agencies are adamant that Fiji will improve its fisheries industry through this new cooperation.

and we are proud that our Peace Corps volunteers have contributed in small ways to these projects successes." Meanwhile, Ms Reed met with Peace Corps volunteer Folami Islam at the Savusavu Library over the weekend as part of her visit to the area. Ms Reed was briefed on how the library played a vital role for the people of Savusavu and on a new program titled Globetrotting that educates young children between the ages of 8 to 14 about different countries around the world. The program also provides an opportunity for children to learn about the different languages, foods, people, cultures and traditions. The US Embassy in Suva is also accredited to the Kingdom of Tonga and Nauru. It promotes diplomatic and bilateral relations between the US and the three countries it is accredited to.
The Maternity Unit at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital received a timely donation of $10,000 worth of goods and products from the overseas manufacturing company SCA Australasia. The company locally manufactures a range of products including toilet and facial tissue, hygiene products, paper towel, disposable tableware and incontinence products. General Manager SCA Australasia Pacific branch Eldon Eastgate said the donation is targeted towards boosting services at the maternity unit. These donations will boost the services of nurses and also how mothers in particular can practice proper hygienic
practices for their new-born babies, Mr Eastgate said. Mr Eastgate said in 2011, the company donated $100,000 worth of sanitary and soap packs to promote Governments hand-washing program and healthy hygiene. General Manager Colonial War Memorial hospital Ned Taito commended the company for their support towards promoting proper hygienic practices. Meanwhile, Senior Matron at the Maternity Unit, Aliote Galuvakadua welcomed the donation adding that one of the major outputs of the ministry is to promote good health and hygiene amongst mothers.

The number of Fijians with Internet access will rise by more than 60-thousand by the end of this year as more of the Bainimarama Governments Telecentres come on line. The Prime Minister says the number includes 5000 additional school children who will benefit from regular access to the Net at more than 20 community Telecentres all over Fiji. Commodore Bainimarama was speaking at the opening of two more Telecentres in the Central Division at Baulevu and Tailevu. Both centres have been established in local schools (Baulevu HighSchool and Tailevu North College) and will provide a range of telecommunications services for hundreds of residents of the surrounding areas. They will be used by schoolchildren during school hours and by the rest of the community after hours and on weekends. The Prime Minister says the Telecentres are part of the Governments telecommunications revolution that has already provided Fijians with mobile phones and cheaper calls through increased competition. Many of you the ordinary Fijians who are the backbone of our nation have never had Internet access before. We have bridged that divide the digital divide - and have given everyone using these Centres the opportunity to gain knowledge and access the same services, he said. The Prime Minister urged
schoolchildren in isolated areas to use the Internet to broaden their horizons. You can immediately be part of a bigger world, a world of knowledge and of contact with people in other places. You may come from a small place but it is One World and you are now fully part of it, he said. The Prime Minister also urged parents to take full advantage of the Telecentres, which give Fijians with family members overseas the opportunity to speak to them via web chat services such as Skype. As well as Internet access, the Centres provide a range of computer-related services, including the ability to type and copy documents and scan documents for transmission via email. The Prime Minister described the Telecentres as a game changer that gave ordinary Fijians access to all aspects of the telecommunications revolution that was transforming peoples lives the world over.We want to empower ordinary Fijians, to give them the basic things they need to improve their lives and the lives of their families. This includes better roads, better access to electricity and water and better access to telecommunications, he said. Commodore Bainimarama says his Government has promised the nation better services and is fulfilling that promise. We are delivering a world of difference for ordinary Fijians. We dont just talk about providing services. We deliver, the Prime Minister added.
Governments new Poverty Benefit Scheme will target 13,000 families and provide an effective way for families to move out of poverty, says the Minister for Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation Dr Jiko Luveni. Dr Luveni reiterated that the Poverty Benefit Scheme has been introduced following a review by the World Bank Team to streamline social welfare programs in Fiji. Under the previous Family Assistance Program, we were targeting the elderly, chronically ill and disabled persons. The new program will assist 13,000 families and ensure that deserving cases dont miss out on this assistance. The program will also provide an effective way of monitoring the progress of these cases on an individually basis and how these families and individual are moving on with their lives, Dr Luveni said. She said that through the Poverty Benefit Scheme, there will be an increase in the coverage of governments assistance to the deserving cases. All the current files will be recertified and transferred
to the new system. From the review we have seen that big families and those with the elderly are the ones living in poverty. We are looking at assisting 13,000 families and with this scheme, we will be able to cover 10percent of the people living in poverty and with the old scheme we were only assisting 4percent of the poor population, she said. Apart from the allowances, she said the families will also be assisted to find employment or engage in income generating projects to break free from the dependency syndrome. Under the Poverty Benefit Scheme, assistance will be provided to able bodied members of families to complete their education or to undergo vocational training, provide skills training or help them venture into income generating programs. The families are given a maximum of 3 years to find alternative income generating activities, Minister reiterated. Ultimately, we want a generation of people living independent lives, she added.
It was an early birthday present for a bank officer in Suva when he won a fully furnished two-bedroom kit house in the 2012 Courts Christmas Dreams Come True promotion late last month. Fiji Development Bank (FDB) worker and Northern Division winner Necani Koroi had purchased a camera in November last year so that he could take pictures of his daughter's graduation from kindergarten. "My wife urged me to buy a new camera and it turned out be my luck that I won a fully furnished house. When I found out that I had won, I was overjoyed and excited," he said. The draw on January 26 saw a turnaround of luck for Mr Koroi who celebrated his 34th birthday three days later. "I think I owe this to my wife who urged me to buy the camera. This
comes as a blessing from God," he said, expressing appreciation to Courts Fiji Limited for always giving it back to the customers. "I think it has been a really good promotion and a great birthday gift for me too. The house kit is worth $60,000," he said. Conditions of entry included the winner providing land for the construction of the house. In a confirmation letter of his prize, Courts Fiji Limited director marketing Anil Senewiratne said once the land was confirmed, the construction work of the house would commence. The furnished kit house comes with a three-piece lounge suite, double bed, TV stand, a variety of kitchen appliances, a DVD home theatre system, sewing machine, refrigerator, gas stove and a top load washing machine among other household items.

The Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority (FRCA) recorded $1.735billion in total revenue last year. FRCA chief executive officer Jitoko Tikolevu said revenue collected exceeded the original revenue forecast of $1.729b by $6.4million, and was below the forecast of $1.742b by $6.8m. Mr Tikolevu said last year's revenue collection exceeded the 2011 figure by $149m. "The original 2012 revenue forecast of $1.729b was increased to $1.742b during the 2013 Budget process," he said. "The 2012 revenue grew by 9.4 per cent over the 2011 revenue collection. For income tax, $448.3m was collected and this was below the revised forecast of $457m and the $453.7m of the 2012 original forecast. "A total of $676.4m was collected by FRCA and exceeded the 2012 revised forecast of $672.5m and also the 2012 original forecast of $669.2m." Over $15m was collected for capital gain tax which was higher than the revised forecast of $8.3m and also exceeded the original forecast of $5.1m. For the service turnover tax, $48.6m
was collected which was below the revised and original forecast. Mr Tikolevu said the positive revenue collection was attributed to sound tax policies, improved tax compliance as well as multiplier effect through tax cuts. "The record collection is a result of FRCA's continuous efforts to ensure proper taxes are being collected, new revenue policies implemented in 2012, and the commitment by taxpayers in meeting their tax obligation on time," he said. "Value Added Tax (VAT) continued to be the dominant source of the overall tax revenue by accounting for about 39 per cent." He said income tax and customs accounted for 26 per cent and 21 per cent respectively, while the other taxes accounted for 14 per cent of the total tax revenue. "When compared to the last three years, it is observed that the proportion of VAT revenue to total tax revenue is increasing while the opposite trend is noticed for income tax and customs." He said this was mainly because of a reduction in tax rate and increased concession.
FIJI was not alone in its poor performance on budget transparency in the recently released global Open Budget Survey 2012 by International Budget Partnerships (IBP). Of the 100 countries assessed on whether the central government made eight key budget documents available to the public, 77 countries failed to meet basic standards of transparency. "The impact of open and accountable public finance on development within countries is particularly important as the international community begins to think about the next set of Millennium Development Goals," said the Foundation of the Peoples of the South Pacific International in a statement. IBP director Warren Krafchik said budget decisions and processes were critical to addressing many of the world's pressing problems.
He said the success of efforts to reduce maternal mortality, eliminate persistent poverty and provide children with highquality education hinged on whether countries made the right budget choices and whether those decisions were implemented effectively. "This is more than an abstract governance issue; it's about the quality of life for millions of people around the world," he said in a statement. "The Open Budget Survey uses internationally recognised criteria to give each country a transparency score on a 100-point scale called the Open Budget Index. "Higher scorers for the 2012 edition include New Zealand, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Norway, Brazil and South Korea while some of the worst performers include Iraq, Chad, Saudi Arabia and Myanmar."
Mrs Korovusere addressing the Senior Staff of the Ministry of Education The Ministry of Education recently participated in the Service Excellence training as part of its efforts to improve efficiency and customer service in the Ministry. The training involved senior personnel from the Ministry and the focus is on improving efficiency and productivity for the year 2013. The Service Excellence is an award conducted yearly by the Public Service Commission to reward and appreciate the effort injected by various government ministries that perform exceptionally well in the year. The training is a timely one equipping our ministry with the background knowledge of the PSCs expectation. As we embark towards achieving sustainable peace and progress, training as such comes in handy, said the Ministry of Education permanent secretary, Dr. Brij Lal. 2013 is a year of Step Up for the Ministry of Education in the implementation of new projects and initiatives. The training should impart the needed guidance for the provision of quality education to make effect the changes needed for sustainable peace and to progress beyond the achievements of 2012,Dr Lal said. The training provides the framework for improved efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery to the public sector.

You will start doing initial paper work for some creative and ambitious project that is very dear to your heart. You will receive whole-hearted support from close friends and relatives. You will find yourself at your best in public relations and will be able to muster enough support for your work even from financial institutions. If working towards starting a co-operative venture, it is advisable to have one single institution, or financier, to back your project and then distribute some shares to others rather than having a loose-knit group. Those seeking elections to board of directors or to important committees will emerge successful. Youngsters will plan a holiday-cum-study tour to a forested or mountainous region. It will be a fruitful trip. Some of you are likely to get emotionally involved with a colleague of the opposite sex. A new romance is in the air and assures a happy and lasting association..
Cancer
Taurus
You will get involved in some social or cultural work or community development schemes. It seems your close friends or associate will urge you to participate more in such social activities that will benefit you in the long run. The pressure of new work that comes along suddenly will thwart your plan for taking a leave or withdrawing from routine work. The employed may be facing some problems at home. Perhaps heavy entertaining has increased expenses and you are now finding it difficult to cater to the needs of the family. You will have a grand get together at home inviting most of your relatives and close friends. Love life is fine. There is a word of caution for those involved in love for long, but not married. Someone may now try to create a rift between you and your beloved by speaking lies and spreading unpleasant rumours.
The current period is extremely beneficial one and monetary returns from your investments will be substantial. If you do not need cash this week you should wait for a while longer to make further profit in your investments. Security at work will give the confidence that you need to explore new areas and move from one success to another. However, do not be in rush to make large commitments in fresh ventures, for there will be other, and more beneficial offers coming your way soon. The employed will be assigned a special task that gives them an opportunity to display their talents. Your tendency to flirt could now land you in an embarrassing situation. Try not to push your luck, especially if you are already in love. You will find your sweetheart seeking commitment from you regarding your future plans. You have to decide now else your relationship or your association will end.
your work place may not be conducive and you could feel frustrated at times. Do not harbour thoughts of changing your job or work for this could result in a setback. Business people will do better and will be able to successfully conclude their current assignment. Your past arrears will be cleared this week and you will be able to pay off a debt or a loan. At home matters are much better especially since you have started to spend more time with your family. Married women desirous of progeny are likely to conceive this week. Those already in an advanced stage of pregnancy are advised to seek constant medical advice to avoid any complications at the time of childs delivery. Seniors may require seeking medical attention.
by doing this you could be ruining your chances of success in your work. Working women, especially those in the field of advertising, marketing, or public relations, will get sudden promotion and additional facilities at work. The married will hardly get any time for romance. It could be due to your busy schedule or your mate could be wary of a friend of your own sex, who may be trying to keep you away from your beloved. Listen to the advice of your sweetheart who has an uncanny instinct to recognise unsavoury elements.
Aquarius
Scorpio
Leo
Gemini
A sudden travel plan may take you towards south or southeast. Some of you may travel overseas of a special assignment. Some of you may travel abroad to scan opportunities for job or business. It will be a fruitful journey. Some of you will start a new work or open a branch office in another city. Those seeking employment overseas will get favourable offers this week. Students will join training classes in a preparation for a competitive exam. A study or training programme is on the curriculum for most of you. Students preparing for tests for the enrolment to a foreign university will succeed in their exams. A younger relative who lives away from you will visit you for a few days. Those of you, who have married recently, will get the good news of a new arrival. Love life is quite exciting.
This is a fortunate period for taking up some of the pending and unfinished work, which has been put off for some reason. This will help you to take up work on your new venture on which you have set your heart and have already sounded a few friends. The pressure of work at your work place may be less giving you an opportunity to get closely acquainted with a couple of colleagues who are more experienced and have been sympathetic and understanding. This may help you in getting certain ideas to build up your career not necessarily in the same set up. Domestic matters will also occupy your time as a misunderstanding over money matters will need a lot of convincing to remove seeds of doubt created by some outside sources and may require all your ingenuity. If you are fancy-free a romantic interlude is indicated.
In business you will be able to carry out your activities without any hitch. Do not waste your time in recoveries but rather follow up with vigour your new project that needs all your attention and efforts. At your work place carry out your assignment with all the speed sincerity and attention as there are some elements that are waiting for a lapse on your part. Fortunately your seniors know you and your work and you will not be affected at all. If you are given some extra assignment you should not refuse it though you may have been burdened with work. This may affect promises you made to the family, as you will not be able to fulfil them. If you have been planning to buy a house or a shop you have bright chances of finding and finalising one now which will almost be a dream come true. Youngsters will be successful in competition or contest bringing a reward, which make them happy and proud.
Pisces
Sagittarius
You will succeed in every endeavour and achieve excellent results in your work and career. An improvement in financial position spurs you on to take risks in new ventures that prove immensely profitable. Businesspersons will sign new deals that will assure them of long-term benefits. Those in artistic or creative fields will do extremely well. Youngsters trying to achieve a breakthrough in the field of cinema or television will get an opportunity to work with a person of renown. Those desirous of setting up a small-scale industry will be able too do so. Benefits accrue to you through state and governmental agency, hence if seeking any sanctions or financial assistance through such organisations you are certain to get these soon. Personal affairs run smoothly. You will enjoy the delights of intimate romance in the company of your beloved.
Virgo

Married women looking for buying a new house will receive an enticing offer that suits their requirement perfectly. You will have the resources to purchase this property and will soon move your residence. Those of you who are keen to bring about a major change in their career will be determined to go ahead with their plans at any cost. This is particularly for those in age group 45 50. The employed are given additional responsibilities at work that entails working until late hours. You may have to cancel your social engagement or other extra curricular activities due to heavy workload. However, your employer will suitably compensate you. Love life is returning to normal, especially for those who have been having constant tiffs with their mate.
It is a favourable week for the employed in that they will be given an important task to handle. All facilities will be made available to you for this project. Those in the field of mass communication and media may become the recipients of award. Business people will get news of a large contract from the government or state agency. Some of you may decide to set up ancillary units for a large organisation that will underwrite all your production. Working women may decide to go into their own business in partnership with close friends. Those in the field of dress designing, jewellery, advertising or exports will succeed in setting up a lucrative enterprise. Love life remains happy with your giving complete attention to the needs of your mate or beloved..
Capricorn
This is the time to renew your contacts or devote attention to public relations. It is quite likely that some domestic issues and responsibilities act as a constraint in your working. Do not waste any time on such affairs because
Your business plans hit a snag stalling most proceedings. Do not worry for the delays, as these may eventually prove to your advantage. In fact, if you can withdraw some of your money from incomplete or loss making ventures you should get the amount and call it quits. You will be in mood to socialise and attend several functions and prove that age is no bar for enjoying life and getting along with people. Keep away from some bores or those who are known to indulge in scandals. At home while reviewing your finances you may come across an unpleasant fact about the amount you have and the sum you are committed. This may require you to take up some extra assignment and sacrifice a part of your luxurious living. But by any chance do not go in for speculation or gambling, which will entail loss. Do not give credence to some people who have something to tell you about your mate or beloved that may be an exaggerated version of a minor happening.

THE days of sitting in a doctor's waiting room next to spluttering sick people are coming to an end, according to experts. Technology researchers believe it will soon be common to receive a virtual doctor's diagnosis from the comfort of your own home. And if you have to see a GP in person, you won't be at the doctor's surgery for long. Online services, such as the website 1stavailable, are doing for the medical profession what Wotif did for the hotel industry, by letting people book a doctor's time online. "It's quite an exciting stage - the world's about to change," said Professor Jeffrey Soar, chair of Human Centred Technology Innovation at the University of Southern Queensland. "We'll be able to collaboratively manage our health. "There won't be waiting rooms full of people anymore. He or she will come to you, or you'll have a very clearly defined time slot if you need to have a human interaction with someone." He said advances in robotics and home appliances, similar to the capabilities of LG's internet-capable refrigerator, will have a profound impact on our lives. Families will be able to tap into data from household appliances to check elderly relatives are OK. For example, your grandfather's refrigerator could inform the family if he has no food in the house. That's not all. Korean robots have been designed to feed the sick, Prof Soar said, and medicine cabinets that can instruct on what pills to take are on their way. Teams at the University of Technology, Sydney, have even designed a wheelchair that can be controlled entirely by thought. Virtual treatments by doctors are predicted to grow substantially, with a recent industry association report predicting worldwide use of "telehealth" services will grow sixfold over the next four years. Dr Steve Hambleton, president of the Australian Medical Association, said the telehealth programs were particularly suited for skin doctors, as well as cancer and eye specialists. Skin specialists (dermatologists) who have notoriously lengthy waiting lists which sometime extend up to a year have been on the telehealth bandwagon for awhile. The Tele-Derm program ran by the Australian College of Rural and Regional Medicine has allowed patients to skip waiting lists for the past nine years. GPs refer images and descriptions of patient skin conditions to an accredited dermatologist for diagnosis. Thousands of GPs have used the program. The college's online services manage, Lex Lucas, said Tele-Derm has allowed the rapid diagnosis of patients. "You can get a patient diagnosed and on treatment quicker than you could if you were in Sydney," he said. Access to these services is predicted to increase as the roll-out of the Federal Government's National Broadband Network (NBN) continues.

Japan Airlines (JAL) says it will talk to Boeing about compensation for the grounding of the 787 Dreamliner, which the airline says will cost it nearly $8 million through to the end of March. All of Boeing's 787s are out of action as investigators in Japan and the United States try to find the cause of two recent incidents with the plane's lithium-ion batteries. JAL, which operates seven of the 50 Dreamliners in service around the world, predicts the grounding will cost it around 700 million yen for the rest of its fiscal year. "Rather than negotiations with Boeing, the important thing now is getting the 787 flying again safely as soon as we can," said JAL president Yoshiharu Ueki. "However, when the situation has
settled down we can and are preparing to begin those talks." But JAL says robust demand on European, North American and South East Asian routes will help offset the impact of the 787's grounding. Rival All Nippon Airways (ANA), which has more 787s than JAL, said last week it would seek compensation from Boeing once the amount of damages was clearer. Officials are investigating a battery fire on a JAL 787 at a US airport and an emergency landing by another plane on a domestic ANA flight after battery problems triggered a smoke alarm. Late last week US officials said they were making progress in their investigation into the battery fire at Boston airport.
A TOUR bus crashed with a pickup truck on a rural mountain highway in Southern California, killing eight people and injuring dozens of others, authorities said.
The accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. local time near the town of Forest Falls, about 128 kilometres east of Los Angeles, San Bernardino County Fire Department spokesman Eric Sherwin said. Sherwin said 27 people were treated at the scene. He said multiple people died and injuries varied from minor to lifethreatening. Highway Patrol Officer Mario Lopez confirmed that eight people died in the fatal accident. People were still being extricated from the bus more than an hour after the crash on a mountainous stretch of twolane Highway 38. Television footage showed the bus sitting upright but turned sideways on the road. Sherwin did not know where the bus was headed or how the truck was involved. Highway 38 leads to Big Bear, a popular area that's home to a ski resort and other recreational locations. At least seven ambulances were called to the scene, and patients were taken to several hospitals. Arrowhead Regional Medical Center said four women had been admitted from the crash and their conditions were still being determined. Redland Community Hospital said it received one person in critical condition and one with minor injuries, while two more were en route with minor injuries. Community Hospital of San Bernardino said it had received one patient with undetermined injuries, while St. Bernadine Medical Center said it had two patients, whose injuries were being assessed. The California crash comes less than a day after a bus carrying 42 high school students and their chaperones slammed into an overpass in Boston. Massachusetts state police said 35 people were injured and that the driver had directed the bus onto a road with a height limit.

John Doyle is moving to Australia Controversial B.C. Auditor General John Doyle is heading to Australia to take up a new job as the state of Victoria's Auditor General. Ted Baillieu, premier of the state of Victoria, said in a statement he was pleased Doyle accepted the post. "The role of Auditor General is vital to the good governance of the state, the statement said. The Auditor General has an essential role in ensuring that public funds are not only spent in line with the appropriations made by Parliament, but also that those funds are spent effectively to the benefit of Victorians. Doyle had been offered a further twoyear term in B.C., after the legislative committee decided not to extend his original appointment and then revised its offer after Premier Christy Clark unveiled changes to the appointment process. NDP critic Shane Simpson says he understands why Doyle felt he couldn't continue in B.C. "I think it really became a bit of a circus here in British Columbia and I fully appreciate Mr. Doyle's view that he was put in a very difficult if not an untenable position to stay in British Columbia because of how the government conducted itself. And that's really unfortunate." Doyle started his term as B.C.'s auditor general in October 2007 after serving as a deputy auditor general in Australia. Doyle's most high-profile investigation is his ongoing examination of the government's decision to pay the $6-million legal bills for two former ministerial aides, Dave Basi and Bobby Virk, who pleaded guilty to leaking information related to the sale of BC Rail. He is currently fighting the provincial government in court to obtain files related to that payout and others. Other work has included a report last year that criticized financial accountability in the legislature, an investigation that revealed a lack of resources in the environmental assessment process and a report into the deferral of expenses at BC Hydro. He recently released a report that called on the government to introduce whistleblower protection for public servants.

Smokers on a plane forced a Sunwing flight from Halifax to the Dominican Republic to land unexpectedly in Bermuda last Friday. After making the unscheduled stop, cops boarded the plane and arrested three passengers, officials said. "It appeared to be a father, a mother and a son. The parents appear to be in their 50s. The federal government is redoubling its efforts to combat corruption and bribery by tabling amendments to the Corruption of Foreign Public Officials Act (CFPOA), Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird said Tuesday. In its pursuit of "an aggressive, pro-trade agenda," the federal government wants to make clear that Canadian businesses are expected to "play by the rules." The Conservatives introduced the amendments to the CFPOA in in the Senate Tuesday in an effort to further deter and prevent Canadian companies from bribing foreign public officials. "These amendments will help ensure that Canadian companies continue to act in good faith in the pursuit of freer markets and expanded global trade," Baird said in Ottawa. "This, we hope, is a good faith sign that Canadas good name retains its currency." The CFPOA makes it a criminal offence in Canada for people or companies to bribe foreign public officials to obtain or retain an advantage in the course of international business. The proposed amendments to the act include: Measures to make it easier for Canada to prosecute Canadians or Canadian
companies for bribery in other countries. Providing exclusive authority to the RCMP to lay charges under the act. Removing the words "for profit" in the definition of business to ensure that the act applies to all business. Increasing the foreign bribery offence from a maximum of five years imprisonment and unlimited fines to a 14-year jail term. Paul Dewar, the NDP's foreign affairs critic, said while the New Democrats were not consulted on the amendments, he welcomed the announcement and was eager to see the details. To date, there have been three convictions under the CFPOA. Griffiths Energy International Inc., based in Calgary, pleaded guilty on Jan. 22 to a charge under the CFPOA related to securing an oil and gas contract in Chad. Griffiths will pay a total penalty of $10.35 million. Niko Resources Ltd., a publicly traded company based in Calgary, entered a guilty plea for one count of bribery on June 24, 2011. It was fined $9.5 million and placed under a probation order. Hydro-Kleen Group Inc., based out of Red Deer, entered a guilty plea on Jan. 10, 2005, to one count of bribery and was ordered to pay a fine of $25,000.

Employers who once believed family matters have no business in the workplace will have to start rethinking their position if they hope to stay on the right side of Canada's evolving employment laws, experts suggested Tuesday. A landmark federal court decision that states workplaces are obliged to accommodate reasonable childcarerelated requests from their employees signals significant changes ahead for the country's employment law landscape, lawyers said. The decision handed down by Justice Leonard Mandamin explicitly states that requests for childcare accommodations stem from genuine need and are not simply the product of lifestyle choices. Mandamin's ruling was made in the context of parents grappling with irregular shift work, but experts suggest the ruling could pave the way for much more broad based discussion on the role family life plays in the workplace. Stuart Rudner, employment law specialist with Miller Thomson LLP, said the decision makes a bold statement about the country's legal landscape. Disability, gender and religion are no longer the primary basis for human rights complaints, he said, adding family-related issues are bound to gain more prominence in the coming years. "This is likely the next frontier," Rudner said in a telephone interview. "(The ruling) does set the precedent now that confirmed what many of us suspected, which is that employers are susceptible to these complaints." Mandamin's ruling, delivered late last week, upheld a successful human rights case launched by Ottawa resident Fiona Johnstone. Both Johnstone and her husband worked as full-time employees of the Canada Border Services Agency, putting in a series of irregular, rotating shifts before their first child was born in 2003. Johnstone asked the agency to accommodate her childcare needs by allowing her to work more stable shifts. The agency declined, saying the only way to maintain a static schedule was to cut back to part-time hours. Johnstone filed a complaint that ultimately came before the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal in 2010. The tribunal ruled in her favour, saying the agency had discriminated against Johnstone on the basis of her family status. Mandamin's ruling supported the tribunal's findings. "The CBSA allowed individualized

assessments of employees seeking accommodation on medical or religious grounds but responded to Ms. Johnstone on the basis of a blanket policy that required her to forfeit her status as a full-time employee," Mandamin wrote. "The CBSA's policy was based on the arbitrary assumption that the need for accommodation on the basis of family obligations was merely the result of choices that individuals make, rather than legitimate need." Canada's demographics alone are a factor in the emerging trend, Rudner said. Parents are not only having to care for their children, but will increasingly be required to care for aging and ailing members of the older generations. Rudner predicted cases involving elder care will surface in court before too long. But the ruling that may seem encouraging to thousands of struggling employees does not represent an unqualified victory, he said. The decision forces employers to accommodate family status requests up to the point of "undue hardship," a concept he said is left loosely defined. "The courts and tribunals want to maintain discretion to look at every individual case," he said. "But the most important factor in determining undue hardship is probably going to be cost. A large company with more significant financial resources will probably be expected to be more flexible than a small business." The ruling also leaves the onus on employees to prove that they have made reasonable efforts to sort out their family obligations before requesting help from their employers, Rudner said. That, child care experts say, is easier said than done. Winnipeg's Discovery Children's Centre is one of only a handful of programs that offer child care services for parents contending with nontraditional work hours. The flex program which remains open until 12:30 a.m. on weekdays and 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays is in high demand from the more than 900 people on the centre's waiting list, said program director Donna Freeman. The logistical challenges of staffing such a program while remaining within provincial licensing guidelines, however, mean the service can't be offered as widely as families might like to see. "That one program is more work administratively than the other 240 spaces in our centre," she said. "But we know that it's needed in the community, so that's why we do it."

I once knew a person that would tell people (in front of her kids) I like my kids until they are 13 then I hate them. This one is still my favorite because shes still 12 but not for long! ??? What?!!! (And people wonder why they have relationship issues with their kids). Im often surprised at what some people say to and in front of their kids. Each child is so different and there are things you can say to each of your kids and it would affect each of them differently based upon their own personality makeup, their history and experiences, etc. But here are some good general basic rules/suggestions for what to say and what not to say to your kids. Imparting a Healthy Dose of Shame One of the main things that should be avoided when speaking to your kids is never to shame them. People have said Im just imparting a healthy dose of shame to make them feel bad for what they did, so they will change their ways. There is NO healthy dose of shame! Its like saying you are giving them a healthy dose of poison. Shame destroys, not builds up. Shame speaks to and about their identity not the action. Guilt is a wrongness of action but Shame is a wrongness of being. It says I am uniquely and hopelessly flawed. Anything that is being said negatively about the persons identity who they are even if it looks like you are talking about their behavior and not trying to shame them- can be very harmful. So be careful to not impart guilt and shame. If they have done something they know is wrong they know they are guilty. If they didnt know they did something wrong, and you shame them you have really opened a door for some lies about their identity to enter in. Remember kids . . . are kids! Look at the behavior and realize is it just childlike/childish behavior or was it disobedience? Either way keep shame and guilt out of your vocabulary and reactions. Infinite words Always & Never And Should/nt Statements that include the words always, never, I cant believe, how could you, you should or shouldnt etc. will most likely cause harm to one degree or another. Even if you are saying things about your kids when they are young, and you dont think they even understand what you are saying- they will pick up on it (whether the words, tone or actions). I had one friend that was constantly talking about their son and how hes a handful! Hes going to keep us running. I dont know what to do with him. We call him a little
How To Talk To Your Kids (And Things You Should Never Say!)
Coloring
terror. etc. That will truly be what happens and it will affect that childs life negatively. There truly is power in the words we speak . . . bringing life or death into our lives and the lives of our kids in various ways. Many people have tried telling me that my daughter is a handful. In the beginning I agreed Shes a strong-willed child. But when she was around 4 or 5 (and after years of struggling to truly bond and get along with her in many ways) I changed my terminology and looked at what people thought of as a negative and turned it into a positive. She is a strong-willed because she was born a leader and her little self knew it even as a toddler! So instead I would say Youre my little CEO in the making! You are such a leader! and I would tell others that too. Find the Good/Positive & Declare it! Bottom line . . . keep your comments positive & full of love find the positive in the negative. Declare the good, not point out the bad. My oldest son had the best teacher ever. When he would mess up or not do as well with some of his work we never heard What happened Tyler? I cant believe you did this bad. etc. Instead we heard Well, you got a D . . . not your best but you are such a fabulous writer so I know your next grade will be much better! Wow! No shame but a building up and motivation to actually be better the next time and that he can do it! How to talk to your kids This is not an exhaustive list but a few things to get you started. Build up dont tear down. Avoid always and never statements. Just dont use them (Never use them! hee, hee) Avoid should statements as it says to your child that they are not what they should be (or doing what they should) meaning there is something wrong with them. Declare the good the positive the gold or gem that is inside each of your kids to them, in front of them and to others. Dont focus on the negative and what they are doing wrong. Avoid negative identity statements Youll never . . . you always . . . you are . . . you shouldve . . . Avoid things that do not promote, encourage and foster significance, belonging and being loved (the 3 things we all long for!). Avoid blame and shame. Accept responsibility for your reactions, actions, feelings, emotions, etc especially as it relates to your childrens actions, reactions, etc. They are not responsible for you
and your feelings, emotional well being, etc. You are the parent and you are in control of and responsible for you. You have Treasures in your House! Your kids are precious. They are unique. They are gems. They are not you, not
like you, and will not be like you. Treasure and enjoy their differences, their different opinions, likes, desires, actions, attitudes, etc. Nourish, enjoy, pour into them and call out the gold in each of them! Build up and dont tear down!

Researchers announced that walking only 10 minutes each day could lower the risk of having a heart attack by up to 50%. Just a small quantity of light exercise has a huge effect on those that live a sedentary lifestyle, said doctors. The Mayo Clinics Dr. Martha Grogan, said that when she tells people that nearly 80% of all heart disease can be prevented, people are very surprised. The doctor said that daily things could be done to make a big difference in the effort to maintain a healthy heart. She said sedentary lifestyles increase the risk of having a heart attack almost the same as smoking does. She added that simply walking to meet with a fellow colleague, instead of emailing them, helps greatly.
Moving Around 10 Mins Each Day Can Cut Risk Of Heart Disease
Moving about 10 minutes each day for someone who is often sedentary could reduce the risk of developing heart disease by up to 50%. Another cardiologist said that the proper amount of sleep was also very important in preventing heart disease. Sleep, said the cardiologist, is a necessity, just as food and water. It is not a luxury. An example was given that high blood pressure in a male smoker who is 53 years old, increases his chance of having a heart attack by over 20% over a period of 10 years. However, by changing your lifestyle, said doctors, your body will give you second chance and will help to reduce most of the risks for having a heart attack.
Raspberry ketones can help you lose weight and boost levels of a metabolism-regulating hormone, a report has claimed. Raspberry ketones are fragrant compounds that occur naturally in raspberries and other fruits. The compounds can boost levels of adiponectin hormone, which regulates metabolism. Higher levels of this hormone are associated with fewer fat stores. The ketones are normally used to give a fruity smell to cosmetics and foodstuffs but, because you only get between one and four milligrammes from every kilo of fresh fruit, a synthetic version is often used to get the same result. And now these ketones are being sold online, in supplement form, as a slimming aid, the report said. Millions of Americans have become convinced of powers of raspberry ketones to `melt` away fat after they were recommended by Dr Mehmet Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
He said raspberry ketones are `the number-one miracle in a bottle to burn your fat`. However, Ann Ashworth, a spokeswoman for the British Dietetic Association, urges caution, pointing out that the only published research into the effects of raspberry ketones on weight loss is small studies on mice. "Although this sounds very exciting, this evidence cannot be transferred to humans without further clinical trials," she said. "We need to know if it`s safe, if there are side-effects, or if it interacts with other medicines," she added. Consultant nutritionist Helen Bond agrees. "People want a quick fix, especially at this time of the year, but when it comes to weight loss, no supplement can take the place of a healthy diet and exercise," she said. "It is not very glamorous but it will save you quite a few pennies along the way and will help you keep the weight off in the long term," Bond said.
Consuming milk and yogurt can give you healthier hip bones than cream, according to a new study led by an Indian-origin scientist, which found that not all dairy products are equally beneficial in promoting bone strength. The study by researchers at the Institute for Aging Research (IFAR) at Hebrew SeniorLife, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School (HMS), has found that dairy intake - specifically milk and yogurt - is associated with higher bone mineral density (BMD) in the hip, but not the spine. Cream, on the other hand, may be associated with lower BMD overall. "Dairy foods provide several important nutrients that are beneficial for bone health," said lead author Shivani Sahni. "However, cream and its products such as ice cream have lower levels of these nutrients and have higher levels of fat and sugar. In this study, 2.5 - 3 servings
of milk and yogurt intake per day were associated with better bone density," she said in a statement. "More research is needed to examine the role of cheese intake (some of which can be high in fat and sodium), and whether individual dairy foods have a significant impact in reducing fractures," she added. Researchers based their findings on data collected from a food frequency questionnaire completed by 3,212 participants. They then compared participants' dairy intake with BMD measurement, which revealed the benefits of milk and yogurt versus cream in largely middleaged men and women. According to the study, nutrient composition varies among dairy foods. Choosing low-fat milk or yogurt over cream can increase intake of protein, calcium and vitamin D while limiting intake of saturated fats.
An expert at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) says massage therapy can lower blood pressure, help prevent colds, enhance skin tone and more. Licensed Massage Therapist Arnold Kelly, who provides massage therapy at the Outpatient Physical Therapy Clinic at the UAB Spain Rehabilitation Center, said massage provides two types of benefits: immediate and cumulative. Immediately following massage, you can experience reduced tightness in the muscles, improved blood flow and breathing, plus reduced anxiety and stress, Arnold explained. Over the long-term, the benefits of massage accumulate; massage can increase a persons range of motion, strengthen the immune system and provide an improved sense of wellbeing, Arnold added. Stress seems to creep into the lives of almost everybody at some point, and Arnold said a massage can do a lot to help. Swedish and deep-tissue massages are two of the big four types of massage. Swedish is for those who are interested in just relieving stress. If there are
deeper aches and pains, deep tissue can help take care of it, Arnold explained. Neuromuscular and trigger point therapy are the other two major types of massage that have proven to be universally beneficial, according to Arnold. Clients often inquire about which form of massage therapy is right for them. What you should look for and ask about are things like: how long the type of massage therapy has been around; how long the massage therapist has practiced it; what it is based on; and whether it focuses more on the physical or mental aspect, Arnold said. How often massage therapy should be utilized varies from person to person. Someone who has little to no physical issues and is simply looking to relax and unwind can benefit from massage as little as once a month. Someone who has a problem that can benefit from regular massage can be seen as often as once a day. My regular clients average about once a week, Arnold stated. Arnold recommends those considering massage first visit a physician to see if this form of therapy will help then choose a licensed therapist.

Actor Akshay Kumar, along with the rest of the cast of Special Chabbis, will visit the actual spot of crime, which has inspired the heist drama. In broad daylight, 26 men, along with mastermind Ajay Singh (played by
Akshay in the film) raided the store and walked away with all cash and jewellery. "TBZ heist is one of the most documented cases in Mumbai. For days, the media kept following and reporting on the smartness of one man called Ajay Singh. Yes, we plan to `revisit` the store in the coming week," Pandey said in a statement. Akshay and his "Special Chabbis" team will visit the store.
Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khans rivalry dates long back. Their animosity is now a story of the past. Time and again the two rival Khans of Bollywood comment some embarrassing statement about each other and create controversy. Last time Salman Khan backed his enemy Shahrukh Khan when Imam Siddique passed a disliking remark against Shahrukh but this time the hunk insult SRK and said that he overacts. It all happened when he was shooting for an ad with actress Aamna Shariff. A prominent ad man turned filmmaker shot the ad. The shoot started off well enough. An eyewitness told, "Salman was his usual self. He did not ask any questions while shooting, neither did he expect anyone to interfere with his takes." There came a point when the actor had to walk towards Aamna, and that too went off without a mistake. But the director was not happy, and requested

TV and film producer Ekta Kapoor, who has bought the rights of yesteryear blockbuster film 'Nagin' is remaking the Jeetendra-Reena Roy starrer with a contemporary feel to it. "We are remaking 'Nagin' but it will be set in today's time. It will be a contemporary feel considering the sensibilities of today's audience. We are actively working on the script and it would take three-four months," a source close to the project said. 'Nagin', which released in 1976 starred bigwigs like Sunil Dutt, Feroz Khan, Jeetendra, Sanjay Khan, Vinod Mehra, Rekha, Mumtaz and Reena Roy, who played the title role. The director will also be locked followed by casting.
Salman to walk up to Aamna again. Salman shot back, "Agar walk karana hai toh kisi model to bula lete!" The unit was bit shocked with Salmans reaction but slowly the scene at the ad shoot became normal and everyone get back to work. Salman too resumed the shoot. Sallu had to shoot another scene where the camera will zoom on his face and suddenly the product will fall in his hand. Salman gave his perfect shot in the first two takes, but the director wanted more perfection and asked him for another take. Undeterred by the previous snub, he requested Salman to shoot again so that he gets his expressions right. It was then Salman lost his temper, glared at the director and replied, "Agar acting hi karani hai, toh Hrithik ko le lete." Before anyone could recover, Sallu in his true style delivered another knockout blow, "Aur agar over acting karani hai toh Shah Rukh ko le lete." Saying this, he walked out of the frame.
"We haven't identified the director yet. Once the director is finalised then we will think of actors. It is too premature to talk about a cameo appearance of Jeetendraji and Reenaji," the source said. Other much awaited project coming from Ekta's production company - Balaji Motion Pictures - is 'Milan Talkies'. "Priyanka will be seen playing the role of a small town girl in the movie. The love story is modern and set in today's time. But the film is based in Lucknow, a small town," the source said. Priyanka will be paired opposite Imran Khan for the first time in this film. Directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia 'Milan Talkies' is likely to go into production from August-September.

Kareena Kapoor is set to don a leaner avatar for Karan Johar's next home production film 'Gori Tere Pyar Mein', opposite Imran Khan. The duo would be seen together for the second time after 'Ek Main Aur Ek Tu'. Punit Malhotra of 'I Hate Luv Storys' fame will be helming the project and it will go on floors from March this year. "Punit wants me to look stylishly different in his film. Besides, there are five songs in the film, which require a lot of dancing. I will still be voluptuous, but the difference will be that my appearance will be more toned and fitter because I need to acquire such a look for my dance numbers," Kareena said in a statement here.
In fact, Kareena and Imran are going to rehearse their dance moves for 1820 days before shooting the songs. Kareena has already started working on her new look. "I used to do a lot of power yoga but have started Iyengar yoga now, which is more difficult. I have already done two sessions and I am feeling absolutely amazing," she said. Recently, Kareena did an item number for Salman Khan starrer 'Dabangg 2' and was criticised for her weight gain. "It was the requirement of the song ('Fevicol'). I couldn't have looked lean and toned as I was in 'Halkat jawani' (her item song in 'Heroine') because the song 'Fevicol' is a desi number."

Getting Ford's legendary Taurus nameplate back on track has been one of the automaker's many miracles of the past several years. With the return of the Taurus SHO, and a newfound emphasis on tech features and luxury refinement, Ford brought a once-great name back from the brinkas an excellent, albeit staid larger sedan. For 2013, Ford hasn't shaken up the formula all that much, but it's stepped up its game just a little bit in all respectswith better fuel economy, improved driving feel and dynamics, and even more safety and tech features that are typically reserved for German luxury flagships. It's also refreshed the Taurus' look in front and in back, as well as spruced up the cabin look and made room for the MyFord Touch infotainment interface inside. But the big news is that a 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo four will be optional, making 237 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque, while also returning at least 31 mpg on the highway. A 290-horsepower version of the familiar 3.5-liter V-6 will remain standard; it adds twin independent variable camshaft timing, bringing it up to date with recent upgrades in the rest of the Ford lineup. Each of those engines is hooked up to a six-speed automatic transmission. And yes, the high-performance 2013 Ford Taurus SHO is back, with its 365-hp, 3.5-liter turbocharged V-6 and standard allwheel drive (AWD is available on Taurus SEL and Limited, too). Whether you'll like the SHO really

Put away your regular toner for the summer and switch to a milder version for the winter. Since the temperatures drop, your skin will dry out faster than usual so youll need a good toner to keep that at bay while also getting rid of impurities. Use Rich Products Unless youre prone to breakouts or have oily skin, take out your good, rich products. Any light creams should be put away. Instead, take out the super hydrating ones since theyll work best during the winter time. Dont Forget About Sunscreen Even though summer is far away, you should never forget about your sunscreen since the sun still shines. Since the snow reflects sunlight, the ultraviolet rays of the sun during the
winter are just as intense. Chapstick Like every girl you should know that chapstick is a key product to have during the winter because it keeps your lips hydrated. Without chapstick, you know very well what happens!

While saying farewell to the celestial dragon, we welcome the intelligent snake. Chinese New Year in 2013 falls on Sunday, Feb. 10 - it is the Year of the Snake. Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, starts on the first day of the first Chinese month (and ends with the Lantern Festival, which is on the 15th day and is the most important festival for the Chinese people). The Chinese New Year is celebrated by eating special New Year food, setting off fireworks, visiting friends and relatives, delivering red packages as good wishes, and hanging lanterns. Many Chinese people regard 2013 as a good year because it is right after the auspicious Year of the Dragon. The Chinese calendar differs from the Western (Gregorian) calendar and the beginning of the Chinese New Year changes every year, with dates ranging between late January and late February. The Chinese zodiac is a rotating cycle
of 12 years, with each year being represented by an animal. The Snake, also called Junior Dragon by Chinese people, is the sixth sign of the Chinese Zodiac, which consists of these 12 animal signs: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. People born in the Year of Snake share certain characteristics: cute, charming, aware, elegant, mysterious, cunning, and passionate. It is said that they are great mediators and good at doing business. Please read more about the characteristics of the people born under this Chinese zodiac sign in a subsequent article What Chinese say about people born in the Year of the Snake. With the arrival of the Year of the Snake, many people will post a variety of New Year wishes. The most popular ones are Keep good health in 2013 and Gathering with family in 2013, among others.

Cory Schneiders Agent Hopes Roberto Luongo Trade Comes Sooner Rather Than Later
'We were hoping this would be the year that Cory would play 75 per cent of the games,' says Mike Liut Just like his client, the agent for goalie Cory Schneider is not about to criticize the Vancouver Canucks for the team's handling of its goaltending situation. But Mike Liut, himself a former goalie, clearly hopes the uncertainty regarding a possible trade of Roberto Luongo does not hang over the team and Schneider all season. "Our concern is we were hoping that this would be the year that Cory would play 75 per cent of the games," Liut said in a phone interview Monday from his Michigan office. "We are only interested in resolution, we are not going to get into the fingerpointing game and to that end you have to take a step back and you have to give them latitude to make a business decision." As much as Liut would like a quick resolution to the matter, he's not entirely convinced that's going to happen. "Is Roberto going to be there all year?" Liut said. "It's certainly looking like he's going to be or both will be there until the (April 3) trade deadline. What happens after that, we'll have to react to that. But my concern is in the obvious, we have a 48-game season and you've got two goalies of their stature. "Roberto is established, everybody knows what he can do, and you've got another one in Cory, who hopes to get an opportunity to play (as a No. 1) for the first time, and we've got this fractured season." None of this comes as a complete surprise to Liut. Late last April, just days after the Canucks were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the does that give you some concern at the same time? Sure, because with a player like Cory you want to see him play every night." Schneider, who signed a three-year, $12-million deal with the Canucks early last summer, has made four starts this season. He had an opening-night disaster when he allowed five goals on 14 shots before getting yanked against Anaheim, but bounced back to win his next two starts, including a 5-0 shutout over the Ducks. He lost his last start 4-1 to the San Jose Sharks when he was the victim of some sloppy Vancouver defensive play. "There is a train wreck, which I like to call it, every year and you're lucky if there is only one," Liut said of Schneider's opener. "You are going to have those games Its how you bounce back, that's the story." Schneider and Luongo have both been praised for how they have handled a rather awkward situation and Liut said his client is mentally tough enough to deal with it. "He's intelligent and understands the situation," said Liut, who added that he has heard nothing to suggest that the Canucks could possibly be shopping Schneider. "I haven't had that conversation with them, but 10 months ago when all this started that was within the realm of possibility and I can assure you that whatever happens between now and the end of whenever this is resolved, nothing will surprise me," he said. "In the meantime, Vancouver's got lots of goaltending." and Samoa in the International Rugby Board points table. New Zealand leads with 77 points, Kenya is second with 56, Samoa 54 and Fiji 51.

Fiji 7S Pressure
Los Angeles Kings and the organization had made it clear it planned to move forward with Schneider as its No. 1 goalie, Liut told the reporter that he wouldn't be surprised if both goalies started this season with the Canucks. "It was within the realm of possibility for a variety of reasons, one of which is trading a player of Roberto's stature is never an easy trade because of the consideration of what you are expecting to come back," Liut said Monday. "He's an elite player in the league. Then there's another layer with his contract and yet another layer with the new collective bargaining agreement Its just not an easy contract to trade. I think it's doable, but it isn't an easy trade. So am I surprised? I am too pragmatic to be surprised. I kind of subscribe to the best laid plans (go awry) adage, you know." What does concern Liut is the possibility that Luongo continues to
get the lion's share of the starts. Luongo was scheduled to make his fourth straight start Monday night against the Edmonton Oilers. "If they are both there for the entire season, and it's a 48-game season, and Roberto plays 40 games, that's a disaster," Liut said. "That's an extreme and I don't think that's going to happen, but certainly the sooner the better. "Vancouver has a decision to make with their goaltending, everybody knows that. We don't need to add more to it than that. Everyone wants it resolved and if it can get resolved that will be better for everybody." Liut said as long as the Canucks are trying to trade Luongo, the team has to give him some games. He's just a little surprised at how many he's getting. "What you have is two goalies and there's only one net and you are trying to trade one of them. So you have to play him. Now it's four games in a row, Pool A at 12noon on Saturday. Fiji plays Scotland in its second game at 3.19pm on Saturday before playing Portugal in the final pool match. Fiji now trails New Zealand, Kenya
THE Fiji sevens team is working overtime to try and cope with all the pressures as it gears up to the fifth tournament of the 2012/2013 HSBC Sevens World Series in Las Vegas this weekend. The Digicel national sevens team has also tightened its control of the media during preparations this week so the team could focus on the huge task that awaits them on US soil. When contacted, Fiji team's media liaison officer Matt Biddell told Times Sport that the team would not take any interviews. However, they directed all questions back home to FRU media officer Talei Mow who would forward all questions to the team management before answers are returned to the media. National sevens selector Sailosi Naiteqe urged the team to work extra hard and improve on the basics.
"I believe the team can bounce back this weekend if they improve on all the weak areas from Wellington last week. They just need to improve on the basics, tighten their defence and try to convert all possessions into points, just utilise the possessions well," he said. The Samurai Barracudas sevens coach said playmaker Joji Ragamate should not be pressured to make all the moves in Fiji's attacks. He urged the other players to create something out of nothing. "The players should believe in themselves and do not rely on Joji (Ragamate) alone to create the opportunities for them. They are best and they should try something from nothing. They should remember that this is professional and international 7s, it is not club level," Naiteqe said. Fiji takes on England in its opening
