overall better quality of life. Making a habit of being active is the
cheapest and quickest solution to help prevent illness and disease.
Eating habits can be changed too. Start simple. If you think you need
3 teaspoons of sugar in your coffee, condition yourself to get that
spoon out of the bowl after 2. Remove the salt shaker from your table
and leave it in the basement or rent a storage locker for it. Theres
enough sodium in most foods, anyway. Grab the 1% milk at the
grocery store. In a few days, you wont notice the difference between
it and either 2% or whole milk. Weve all read the benefits of fruits,
vegetables, fish, etc. Start believing a lot of this is true.
Im not your mother so I wont tell you that you have to do anything.
On that note, Ill end this portion of the lecture.
Next up is advice about properly filtering and venting a home or
office. Start by understanding what you are trying to accomplish.
Are you looking for a cleaner home? The first and easiest place is to
start with replaceable filters. The one inch filters are designed to be
replaced every thirty days, while the five inch filters are designed to
be changed every three to six months. A common, replaceable filter is
designed to capture airborne particles such as dog hair, dander, dust
and other non-living particles present in the indoor air.
If allergies plague your family, there are high level HEPA self-
contained filtration systems which are mounted to the home duct

virus, you may just as well stay home. According to Northwest
Community Hospital as well as press releases from other institutions,
you will simply be turned away. That is true even for your children
under the age of 18.
Hospitals understand just how easily the virus spreads from person
to person or through ventilation systems, and how resistant it is to
common medications. They are worried about the havoc the flu
virus will wreak on their patients, who are very susceptible to
contracting it.
In this age of viruses and flu bugs that mutate and seem invincible

how big an impact our ventilation systems can have on our home or

impossible. The body can create as many good habits as bad ones
given the chance. Habits are said to become routine if given thirty
days of repetition. Experiment with this by waking up at a specific
time for the next month, and then see how your body reacts in the
following month. You should find youve conditioned yourself to
awaken at that same time. Its a strategy that fitness centers have
embraced, and the reason why so many offer the first thirty days of
membership for free.
If youve gotten hooked into a one year gym membership, no matter

Olympics. This August will find them in
Michigan for competition.
Due to back surgery in late January to
fuse two of her vertebrae, Brenda will
be out of the office for two weeks. John
will man the phones in her absence.
We wish them both well!
After the expected six weeks to four
months full recovery, Brenda the
animal lover has plans to rescue a
Doberman Pincher. - Make sure you ask
Brenda how shes feeling!

News did a pre-game segment on the 1

February featuring Pearl, a promising young rescue Lab out of Baltimore.
Pearl was the favorite for both the Eukanuba Trophy and a lucrative
Kibbles and Bits contract. Has anyone heard if her performance lived up
to the hype? And the feline half-time show brilliant or bushwhack?
Franklin and I are as fiercely competitive as the Harbaugh boys! A shot
at coaching opposing teams in a dog-bowl game someday would be a
dream come true for us! We could make our folks as proud as Jack and
Jackie H. were. Plus, it would be fun to see if the cameras would catch
Mom and Dad cheering or watching the game stone-faced neutral.
The weather has prevented us from enjoying the dog park as much as
wed like Im afraid John and Lindsey are to blame. Some days the
record breaking warmth but rain and wind, or blue skies but sub-zero
temps have kept them in. Please if we all have to be couch potatoes,
could we at least watch the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on the

and 12th?
One last thing to leave you with share the love, people. Dont forget us

Dedicated To A Healthier Environment


I am having a hard time recalling a
weirder winter with these crazy
temperature changes. Even for Chicago
these peaks and valleys seem odd. I hope
Mother Nature is almost done going thru
the change.
One pleasant surprise has been the
return of the NHL, and the Blackhawks
return in particular. I am confident Joel
will do a great job with the boys this
year. It has really been a fantastic start,
filled with good chemistry and open
hockey. It sure appears that captain
Jonathan Toews renting all that ice time
for the team has paid off. For some the
decision to play abroad in order to keep
their legs and skills fresh was a good one.
I am looking forward to good hockey
from the Blackhawks this year, if a few
younger guys can add some energy and a
timely goal here and there, and we get above
average goaltending, it should be quite a
horse race to the finish.
Congratulations to the Baltimore Ravens! It
would be nice to think our new general
manager and coaching staff can get the
Bears back to being an elite team again.
Hopefully they will be competitive for a long
time.
In other news, if you read my posts
regarding government updates in furnace
efficiency standards, there have already been
changes. Initially, a banning of the
production and sale of 80% efficient
furnaces in favor of 90% efficient systems
was to be a mandate this spring in our area.
Instead, it looks like the deadline will be at
least five years out. If you were worried you
would be stuck buying a new furnace now, it
appears you can breathe a sigh of relief for
the time being. Talk to you soon. Stay
