SECTION 7 - APPENDICES
7.1.1 Process Description/Flow Schematic

Select Descale
Flow Schematic (refer to next page)

Process:
Water enters the rear of the unit via the inlet solenoid valve, which is protected by a filter screen with a 150 micron rating. The operation of the inlet valve is controlled automatically by the high and intermediate level sensors located in the storage tank. For applications that do not require the addition of a feedwater boost pump the water then passes into the Pretreatment Pac located at the front of the unit. If circumstances dictate the use of a boost pump the incoming water feeds directly into the pump which boosts the feed pressure to approx, 60 psi, prior to the Pretreatment Pac. The media contained within the Pac removes Free Chlorine from the water which is harmful to the next stage of purification; Reverse osmosis. The pretreated water is now further purified by the action of Reverse Osmosis. This is achieved by passing water through a semi-permeable membrane. The membrane will reject from the water up to 98% of the dissolved contaminants and run them to drain via the Drain line. Therefore the product water from your Select Descale unit will contain typically only 2% of impurities which generally translates to a water quality of between 5-10 us/cm. The purified water then feeds directly into the storage tank of your choice. The storage tank options being either Integral or External Select Tanks or your own existing vessel. The quality of the purified water is measured by a 2-200 us/cm conductivity meter and the value being indicated on the Alphanumeric display. Purified water can be drawn from the system via the white bib tap or from the gravity outlet connection at the rear of the tank, if this has been pre selected as an option.

7.1.2

Process Description/Flow Schematic

Select Analyst
Flow Schematic (refer to next page)

Process:
The purification process of the Select Analyst is identical in part to that of the Descale unit. The major difference being that the purified permeate water from the Reverse osmosis stage is further treated by passing it through a Puripac. The Puripac cartridges contain a mixture of ion-exchange resin and activated carbon. This media mix further purifies the water and removes the remaining residual contaminants to produce a treated water quality of between 1-10 M-cm. The purified water then feeds directly into the storage tank of your choice. The storage tank options being either Integral or External Select Tanks or your own existing vessel. The quality of the purified water is measured by a Resistivity monitor covering the range 0.1- 10 M-cm ,the value being indicated continuously on the Alphanumeric display. Again purified water can be drawn from the system via the white bib tap or from the gravity outlet connection at the rear of the tank, if this has been pre selected as an option.

7.1.3

Process Description/Flow Schematic

Select HP
Flow Schematic (refer to next page)

Process:
The purification process of the Select HP is essentially identical in part to that of the Analyst unit. The major difference being that the stored purified water is recirculated around an internal polishing loop within the unit. The pump is protected from running dry by a low level sensor located in the storage tank. Water is drawn from the storage tank by the recirculating pump at a rate of between 1-2 lts/min and passed back through the Puripac cartridge and returned to the storage tank. This ensures that the stored water is maintained at high quality without degrading. Also included within the polishing loop and installed after the Puripac cartridge is a 0.1um filter . The filter removes bacteria and particles of greater than 0.1 um from the purified water. With the inclusion of continuous recirculation the typical treated water quality from the HP unit will be between 15-18 M-cm. The quality of the purified water is measured by a fully temperature compensated resistivity monitor covering the range 1- 18 M-cm . Water quality along with the system status and other operating functions are displayed on the HPs graphic display module. The water storage tank options are identical to the Analyst and Descale options. In addition to the Analyst and Descale the HP is able to dispense water from an extra 2 outlet points due to the inclusion of the recirculation pump. Purified water can be dispensed via a point of use outlet located at the front of the unit. The point of use take off being fitted with a 0.2 um filter to prevent ingress of air-borne bacteria . At the rear of the unit purified water can be taken off under pressure and be fed to external equipment. An additional 3-way flush valve has also been incorporated into the system to provide the ability for the unit to carryout an auto-sanitisation procedure.

7.1.4

Process Description/Flow Schematic

Select Bio
Flow Schematic (refer to next page)

Process:
The purification process of the Select Bio is essentially identical to that of the HP unit. To achieve the enhanced microbiological specification the internal sub micron filter rating has been increased to 0.05 um in conjunction with the installation of an Ultra violet sanitiser. The UV sanitiser operates at the bactericidal wavelength of 254 nm. The Bio unit incorporates all of the functions of the HP unit but has the following additional features: Volumetric/manual dispense. Permeate divert/concentrate flush

For details on the Operation of the Bio unit refer to Section 4.

7.1.5 Process Description/Flow Schematic Purewater 300

Flow Schematic (refer to next page)

Process:
A water purifier utilising reverse osmosis technology that is specifically designed to work with laboratory glassware washing machines. The Purewater 300 produces high quality rinse water of better than 1M.cm. ensuring residue free laboratory glassware. A boost pump option is available for areas of low water pressure (less than 2 bar). The purification process of the Purewater 300 is identical in part to that of the Descale unit. The purified water then feeds directly into the integral storage tank on the unit. The quality of the purified water is measured by a Resistivity monitor covering the range 0.1- 10 M-cm ,the value being indicated continuously on the Alphanumeric display. Again purified water can be drawn from the system via the white bib tap or from the gravity outlet connection at the rear of the tank.

Purewater 300 High Flow Connection Details

Additional infomation for Select Unit with high flow connection from internal tank.
The connection is fitted to the right hand side of unit direct into the tank, fitted with isolation valve threaded BSPF for your connection.

The slackening of the socket union would allow the valve assembly to be swivelled down if required and the same of the valve itself if the handle requires repositioning to suit your installation (do not forget to retighten). A number of extra connectors are supplied to cover most common practice for your connection to the unit.

The output from the above connection is a gravity feed therefore the unit must be mounted to a higher level than the unit it is supplying, also interconnecting pipe work to be short and as direct as possible not greater than 3 metres in length. For all other information see Select User Manual, Analyst Sections for setup and operation of the unit copy attached.
