GLOBAL ACCELERATOR PROGRAM SEED STAGE MENTORED INVESTING

In Greek Mythology, a Chiron was a learned centaur mentor of Heroes.

Kyrons vision is to become one of the leading accelerators in the world, a mentor to global heros, with relationships that reach every center of innovation and touch leading commercial and non-profit organizations worldwide.

TAPPING THE UPTAKE OF ENTREPRENEURIAL ACTIVITY IN INDIA

Bangalore was labeled a hotbed of startup activity in a recent E&Y global VC report: $330MM was invested in 44 deals in the 1st half of 2012, an 88% increase over the same period last year. Pan India, there were 43 seed/angel rounds in the first half of 2012 compared to just a handful in 2011. Bangalore is also a Talent Hotbed given that IT firms in the city employ about 35% of India's pool of 2.8 million IT professionals. There are also an increasing number of Silicon Valley entrepreneurs returning to their home country to tap the growth of the economy.

IN A WELL FUNDED BUT UNDERSERVED ECOSYSTEM

According to E&Y, the growth capital venture space in India is getting overcrowded. With about 400 VC funds in operation, this glut has driven up valuations, prompting concerns by many private equity investors. Yet there is still plenty of room for early-stage VC funds, especially in the almost empty pre-revenue space. In the last few months, there has been over $100MM raised by angel groups and super-angel funds to spur this growth. On the other hand, there are only 10 accelerators across the country. The top 3 U.S. accelerators accelerate more startups per year than all of Indias combined.

BY BUILDING UPON A PROVEN SEED ACCELERATOR MODEL

In 2005, Y Combinator (Mountain View, CA) developed a new model of startup funding: a 3 month intensive residential program where cohorts of very early stage tech company founders are given on average $15,000, extensive mentoring, and a number of perks in exchange for up to 6% equity. The objective is to get these companies in the best possible shape and refine their pitch to investors by the last day of the Program, called Demo Day. Since 2005, Y Combinator has invested over $6,000,000 into 450 startups, and the returns are impressive: the combined value of the top 21 companies was estimated at $4.7 billion in 2011. Even though Y Combinator only had 6% stake which got diluted over successive rounds, the residual stake is worth north of 100x the initial investment. In Bangalore, TheMorpheus, a bootstrapped accelerator established in 2009 partially exited one of its portfolio companies recently when it raised $4.5MM series A from Sequoia Capital. Overall, it has performed on par with the top tier 2 U.S. accelerators.
