Conceptronic How-To Recover the Firmware of the C54APRA

With this manual, you can recover the firmware of the C54APRA router when it stops functioning or
when the web interface is down.

For recovering the firmware, follow the steps below (Windows XP):

1. Make sure that you connected the computer with an UTP cable to the C54APRA, and not with
a Wireless connection.
2. Install the recovery utility, which can be found in the directory
“C:\Conceptronic\C54APRA\TI Remote Application\SETUP.EXE”
3. Follow the steps on the screen to complete the installation.
4. Click on “Start”, ”Settings”, “Control Panel”.
5. In the “Control Panel”, click “Network and Internet Connections”.

6. Click on “Network Connections”.


7. Right click your “Local Area Connection” and click “Properties”.

8. Click on “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)”, and click “Properties”.

9. Enter the following IP address: 5.5.5.5


10. Enter the following Subnet mask: 255.0.0.0
11. Click “OK”.
12. In your properties screen, click “OK”.

Your network card is now equipped with the correct IP address for recovering the C54APRA.

13. Run the “TI Remote Application”, which can be found in the Start Menu or on the Desktop.
14. Remove the power from your C54APRA.

15. Reconnect the power to the C54APRA and click EXACTLY 3 seconds after reconnecting the
power on the “Retrieve/Assign IP Address” Button.
You should get the following screen:

If you don’t get this screen, this could have 2 reasons:


1. You where to early or to late with pressing the “Retrieve/Assign IP Address” button.
You can close the program, and follow the steps 13 t/m 15 again.
2. Your C54APRA works on another Recovery IP Address. You can see this in the above
screenshot at the “Target Information” section.
- If you find here the IP Address “10.8.8.8”, you need to follow the steps 4 t/m 15
again. At step 9, enter the following IP Address: 10.5.5.5.
- If you find here the IP Address “169.254.87.1” you need to follow the steps 4 t/m
15 again. At step 9, enter the following IP address: 169.254.87.5

16. Click on “Browse” and browse to the directory “C:\Conceptronic\C54APRA\”

17. Select the file”MTD-4M” and click “Open”.

18. In the application, the button “Run Script” is available. Click on “Run Script”.
19. Select the option “Flash”.
20. Select the option “Firmware – Kernel/FS” and click “Download”.

21. Select the file “C54APRA_kernel” and click “Open”.

The application will flash the kernel to the C54APRA. When the application is finished, you get the
following screen:

22. Press “OK”, close the application and power off the C54APRA.
23. Follow the steps 13 t/m 15 again.

You should get the following screen:

If you don’t get this screen, you where to early or to late with pressing the “Retrieve/Assign IP
Address” button. You can close the program, and follow the steps 13 t/m 15 again.

24. Select the option “Flash”.


25. Select the option “Firmware – Kernel/FS” and click “Download”.

26. Select the file “C54APRA_fs” and click “Open”.


The application will flash the file system to the C54APRA. When the application is finished, you get the
following screen:

27. Press “OK”, close the application and power off the C54APRA.

28. Power on the C54APRA.


29. Wait until the “Status” LED comes up.
30. Press the “Reset” button on the backside of the C54APRA for 15 seconds.
31. Wait until the “Status” LED comes up again.

32. Follow the steps 4 t/m 12 again, but instead the IP address and Subnet mask at step 9 and
10, you select “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain DNS server address
automatically”.

The router will assign a new IP address to the computer.


After the above steps, the router can be accessed again with Internet Explorer, at the address
http://10.0.0.1/.
