NAB will be responsible if RPPs left without payment: SC

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) resumed the hearing of rental power plants case on Monday and said that the chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) will be responsible if the Karkey power plant left without paying the liabilities, Geo News reported.A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry was hearing the petition filed by Faisal Saleh Hayat pertaining to financial irregularities in the purchase of RPPs. The court, while concluding the hearing, ordered the recovery of eleven billion rupees from the rental power plant.During today s hearing, Chiarman NAB and DG NAB s statements were also submitted in the court, admitting the fact that Karkey owed eleven billion rupees. The SC, in its order, stated that there were discrepancies in NAB s earlier and current statements. The court warned that if there will be any change in the amount or the ship left without paying off the

amount, then the chairman of NAB will be hold responsible for it.NAB s prosecutor general informed the court that the ship is in Pakistan and that many notices were issued to Karkey, but no reply was submitted on its behalf.Earlier, the NAB had directed the Maritime Security Agency and Port Qasim authorities to prevent the rental power plants Karkey from crossing the Pakistani sea limits.NAB had earlier allowed the four Karkey ships to leave the country but according to the SC order, Karkey has to refund the advance and other pending amounts due to which the rental power plants have now been barred from leaving the country.The Transparency International had reported a mega corruption scandal of the present times to the prime minister in which the NAB allegedly cleared one of the rental power plants without recovering $220 million from it.
