Develop the relationship between nonprofits, small business, and corporations with emphasis on the key role United Way of Pierce County can play in assisting them reach their philanthropic goals. Interns establish vital community connections with new businesses to build robust relationships and help them with their charitable needs to include but not limited to volunteer opportunities and community need information. Build trust as we work toward developing workplace campaigns and a stronger community. Serve as a United Way spokesperson through a program centered on project management and organization. All major fields of study are welcome; however, business, urban studies, human services, social work, marketing, or communications study or experience is helpful. Candidates should be interested in relationship development, possess strong listening and customer service skills, fundraising, and have an appreciation for diversity. Computer literacy, analytics, and the ability to speak persuasively and clearly are a must. Applicants must also be self-starters, innovative, flexible, and have excellent oral and written skills.

Essential Job Functions:

Carrying out implementation of new protocols with a new partner, GivingTrax once agreement finalized. Work closely with VP of Community Education & Resource Development, IT Director, and other UWPC staff to identify existing accounts to approach, new small business sectors on the value of this new Corporate Responsibility and giving tool. Learn the GivingTrax tool, United Way's positioning in the partnership, and develop excellent relationships with GivingTrax staff/ownership. Support workshops, focus-groups and other events targeting industry and/or geographical segments relating to GivingTrax. Develop market research, company bio reports, and network to assist the development of new business relationships. Make calls on companies, set-up and participate in meetings to engage business leaders with the United Way, often through GivingTrax links to United Way develop portfolios based on tools most useful to them. Analyze business sectors by industry and geographic locations. Assist in management and execution of cross-sector meetings to better garner keys to success in their business cultures Maintain accurate, comprehensive account files. Write and file background notes on new accounts and update computer records as required. Keep RD staff fully informed of campaign progress. Assist in implementation of donor relation strategies and efforts. Make United Way presentations when necessary. Manage account files, data reports, acknowledgement letters and updates for all potential new accounts. Support special projects and new UWPC initiatives as needed. This may include research in corporate matches and social media fund development opportunities.
