Syllabus Advanced Life Support Module Code : XGA10042
Organizer : Department of Anestesiology and Intensive Care FMUI/RSCM Introduction On daily practice, a doctor will meet some hard cases, or even life threatening cases. In managing such cases, a general practitioner is expected not only to be able to give basic life support, but also Advanced Life Support. Previous anesthesiology module has facilitated Advanced Life Support materials, but further practice and patient clerking will be a benefit for students to increase their ability. In this elective module, students will have chance to learn through discussion in classroom, simulation in skill lab and work in emergency department. Learning Objectives After this module, the students will be able to: 1. know the introduction of advanced life support in the emergency unit 2. identified patients who needs the advanced life support 3. know and understand about oxygen delivery 4. know and understand about oxygen therapy 5. know and understand about shock 6. know and understand about heart lung and brain resucitation and critical patient stabilisation 7. know and understand about the critical patient transportation Scope This module is about diagnosis and treatment of patients with 1. Disturbance of consciousness 2. Airway disorders 3. Respiratory failure 4. Circulation disorder/shock 5. fluid, acid base, and electrolyte imbalance Methods - Case discussion and Journal Reading - Task - Presentation - Work at the Emergency Unit RSCM Facilities - Discussion/Seminar Room - Multimedia and laptop - References - Stationary and Consumables
