North American Emission Control Area ECA

Joint Proposal US, Canada March 2009: 200 nm off coasts France co-proposed Islands off Newfoundland Target: Nitrogen Oxides N0x, Sulfur Oxides S0x, Particulate Matter PM Enforceable August 2012 2010 July Fuel Sulfur 1.0% (10,000 ppm) targets PM, S0x reduction 2015 Fuel Sulfur 0.1% ( 1,000 ppm ) 2016 New Engines operating these areas must use emissions controls targets achieving 80% reduction in N0x ECA encapsulates US & Canada, any flag, low sulfur fuel switching or exhaust cleaning devices enforceable August 2012

N0x Effects of Otto / Diesel Cycles

Thermodynamic fundamentals of different cycles different results

8 Wrtsil 03 June 2011

N0x Impacts of Diesel vs. Otto Cycle

C0 Elevated temperature increases N0x as N0x is exponentially dependent on temperature

Diesel cycle more efficient with greater peak temperatures than Otto, however this elevates N0x why not use best of both

Wartsila spans gas engine market dual fuel low pressure with pilot fuel or high pressure gas engines; also spark ignited SG

Dual Fuel Engine Otto & Diesel Operating Modes

Gas Otto mode inside emissions sensitive coasts and port areas Diesel mode when international for efficient long range capability
12 Wrtsil 03 June 2011

The DF vessel concept

The DF engines provide safety and redundancy, inherent reliability of the diesel engine allows a simple installation

Single gas tank and gas feed system allowed

No duplicate (diesel) gensets for main propulsion

LNG

MDO

Wrtsil Mika

IMO Operational Flexibility

No SCR unit, Gas IMO Tier III compliant No SOx Scrubber, Gas @ 0% Sulfur

HFO flexibility savings and retores range when outside ECA

MDO as backup fuel

LNG

MDO

Optimize Operations: DF on gas navigating inside ECA for low cost emissions compliance; switch to HFO outside ECA to preserve vessel range and retain savings

Bunkering procedure
Bunkering Station 1. Collapse the gas pressure in the tank 2. Open the main filling line 3. Inert the piping with N2 (NOT shown) 4. Close the filling line valves To engines

Tank pressure increase

1. Open pressure control valve 2. LNG flow by the hydrostatic pressure into the vaporizer 3. LNG is vaporized and gas is returned to the tank To engines PBU

Normal operation

1. The stop valve and master valve are opened (double block valves with bleed in between) 2. LNG is forced by the tank pressure through the product evaporator and instantly evaporated. Gas flows to the GVU
