Modeling is taken over

CAD data (model) imported into a CAM system cannot be used in that form in the machining process. The model must be edited using a CAD system or CAD functions built into the CAM system in order to output the optimum toolpaths. FF/cam incorporates Toolpath Assist and One Click Masking functions for generating the desired toolpaths by simply clicking with the mouse on the relevant portions of the model. For One-way Not making much progress example, you can run a toolpath from operation with slightly outside the model or mask holes to FF/cam be machined by EDM. These functions free the operator from the tedious task of having to edit machining programs.

Complete NC data are generated with toolpaths Easy to choose from a wealth of templates regardless of experience.
FF/cam uses the principle of Makino's FF Machining process to generate optimum toolpaths from roughing to finish machining. The result is stable, high-speed machining with minimal tool friction and breakage. Moreover, the FF/cam database contains a wealth of practical cutting conditions based on extensive real-world machining experience accumulated by Makino as a machine tool maker. With this support, even beginning operators can easily generate data for high-quality machining.
FF/cam embodies Makino's extensive machining expertise gained as a machine tool builder. Toolpaths and machining conditions can be output and sent as they are to a machining center without any editing. This means toolpath output equals NC data output, so machining can begin instantly at anytime. One Click Masking blocks up the hole automatically

Just select face to block up holes.
Masking holes or grooves that are not to be machined usually requires returning to the CAD system to do tedious tasks like "trim release" or "face extension. " With One Click Masking, it can be done in the CAM system by simply selecting the area around a hole. CAM system operators do not have to master CAD is time task system operations. Function for masking holes

This function is used to mask grooves, holes and insert pockets to be machined later by EDM. All types of holes can be masked by simply clicking on the top of a hole.

Function for masking drill holes

Many drill holes in a part shape can be masked all at one time with this function. The size of holes to be masked can also be specified. This makes it possible to mask just the holes to be drilled and to leave all the holes to be machined with an end mill.

Finish machining

Optimal toolpaths eliminate the polish ing

Toolpaths that deliver smooth machined surfaces eliminate the need for polishing.

Removal of uncut areas and the leaving of stock for finish machining are defined separately for each depth of cut. This facilitates machining without any rib deflection due to the load.

Plastic mold machining

Because the machining load is stable, corners can be machined directly using a small 0.3 mm radius ball end mill.

For minimizing hand finishing

Along surface machining
Smooth toolpaths are generated for machining multiple curved surfaces. When applied to the finish machining process, approach motions are minimized in pursuit of polishing-free machining.

FF/cam generates toolpaths faithful to the machining model. Together with the use of a high-accuracy machining center, this eliminates breaking-in adjustments for parting surfaces.

Holder interference

Collision free toolpaths

Check for holder interference
A toolpath is generated only for the portions that can be machined with the specified tool overhang length. This function generates safe toolpaths without any holder interference even for workpieces with deep cavities and complex geometries.

Flat face machining

FF/cam automatically detects the flat areas of the workpiece geometry and outputs toolpaths only for those surfaces. This function is well suited to machining with a flat end mill.

Flat edge machining

FF/cam automatically detects the flat areas and section edges of the workpiece geometry and outputs toolpaths only for the edges of the flat surfaces.

This function facilitates hole machining with various tools, including drills, taps, reamers, borers and chamfering cutters, among others.

Optimal tool selection

Calculation of tool overhang length
This function calculates the tool overhang length needed for machining. It determines the shortest possible tool overhang and selects the most efficient machining conditions.

Press die machining

Cutting tools are subjected to large loads when machining quenched materials and other materials having high hardness. When finish machining deep cavities in particular, uncut corner areas have a large impact on the tool, giving rise to gouging at the corners. Uncut corner areas can be removed with the corner machining function prior to finishing, making it possible to maintain a constant tool load during finish machining. Machining database

Operating environment/ Support

Verification of machining time

Machining condition database
Makino has created a database of machining conditions based on the FF Machining principle honed through extensive experience as a machine tool builder. These machining conditions are not derived from theoretical calculations, but represent the accumulation of proven results in benchmark tests.

Operating environment

Pentium4 2.0GHz or more (Intel Core2 Duo 2.4GHz is recommended) For the CPU other than above, the operation is not guaranteed.

Memory Auxiliary memory Graphics card USB port

1GB or more (2GB or more is recommended) HDD (2 GB or more of empty memory space is required) Installation region must be formatted in the NTFS format. A graphics board compatible with OpenGL is required. For further information, see the homepage (http://www.ffcam.makino.co.jp/ffcam) Required for the security.

The database contains over 2,000 types of conditions just for solid ball end mills. The conditions are suitable for machining a wide variety of materials, ranging from carburized steels, pre-hardened steels and high-hardness steels to aluminum materials. Machining conditions are generated for achieving high efficiency with respect to machining time, machining accuracy and tool life, while taking into account the deflection and deformation that can occur during machining depending on the diameter and length of the tools used. The spindle speed, feedrate and depth of cut are all determined automatically. FF/cam has a comprehensive machining condition database for machining in the high-speed range at 40,000 min-1. This facilitates safe machining even with small-diameter tools of less than 1 mm in diameter.

FF/cam cannot be installed if an SQL Server 2005 (including the Express Edition) is already installed in the Windows certified mode. FF/cam must be installed in the mixed mode. The installation procedure requires the password of the SQL Server 2005 administrator.

Storing individual skills in a database for shared used

Process database
Machining processes can be registered that contain the types of machining methods matching the conditions of the customer's shop, including the kinds, materials and sizes of the workpieces machined and the machine tools used. For example, the accumulated expertise of experienced operators can be put into the database for everyone to share.
