Make use of the works of others to support your own arguments. Examine the ideas and arguments of others to help you shape your own thoughts or views on a particular issue.

Give your short arguments: (B) we dont have right to use other work without citing the original author and make it as if it is our work that is a LIE...

3. Paraphrasing too closely to the original text, even if you do credit the source, is still considered as plagiarism because: (a) By changing a few words or the order of the original words, you have changed the authors exact words. (b) By not providing the exact words of the author in their entirety, you are attributing to the author some words that he/she did not write. (c) You must never use the words of others when you are using their ideas. (d) You have failed to indicate, by means of direct quotation marks, which are the exact words of the original. Give your short arguments: (D) it is obvious if we just paraphrasing too litle and simple we make a big mistake because the original author never written that

words eventhough we citing the original author. And also if The rule is that whenever you use more than three consecutive words of an original text you must put them within quotation marks

4. Which of the following is not an example of "padding" a bibliography? (a) Including in your bibliography works that you consulted but to which you made no direct or indirect reference or use of in your research paper. (b) Including in your bibliography sources that you did not consult but know would be relevant to the topic of your research paper. (c) Listing the titles of complete works as separate entries in your bibliography when you actually used a single volume made up of excerpts from those works. (d) Including in your bibliography sources that you did not consult directly, but that were referred to in several of the books or articles that you did consult. Give your short arguments:

5. You are unable to work out the calculations for your lab report but you know what the correct answer should be. Since your report is due, you take one of your numbers from an old lab report so that you can arrive at the correct answer. Is this considered to be plagiarism? (a) Your professor doesn't expect everything to work out and if s/he knows that you falsified a few of your numbers to fit in with your results s/he won't be worried about it because the important thing is that you tried and that you understand what should have happened. (b) Since you are copying someone else's work without crediting the source, this is clearly plagiarism. (c) This was such a tiny part of the lab report, that it really doesn't matter. Give your short arguments: (B) OF COURSE.. we are taking others work without citing them.. its the same like stealing...

6. You are in a computer science course. The documentation for a new programming language is on the Web and the author has given permission to use the code. Do you cite the source or not? (a) No, since the author has given permission to use the code, all you have to do is copy it. (b) Yes, you still need to cite the original source of the code.

Give your short arguments: (B) yes we need to give credit for the author for his/her hard work writting the code..

7. You're worried that your paper will look as if all the ideas come from someone else and appears to list one reference citation after another. You can avoid this by: (a) Having your own over-riding argument and thesis, being analytical, and presenting your own interpretations of the evidence. (b) Omitting references when you are in doubt whether you need to reference ideas or information. (c) Integrating quotes and ideas into the text so that they fit in with your own words in a seamless web, and varying the way you introduce your references to the original sources. That way the citations will not be so intrusive. (d) a and c. Give your short arguments:

8. True or false? (1) Copying a persons work word for word is not plagiarism if they have given you permission to use it. (2) The internet is available to everyone all the time and as such no control can be placed on who uses any given piece of information. People who post on the internet expect their work to be used by everyone. (3) You must cite all work drawn from another source, whether this work is textual, conceptual or illustrative. You should also acknowledge any assistance you have received from outside sources whether through discussion or focused research. (4) As long as the originator has given you permission, you may submit work authored by another under your own name. You may also freely submit any work of your own regardless of whether or not it has previously been submitted for assessment. Give your short arguments:

9. Which of the following definitions of plagiarism is correct? Plagiarism is the deliberate passing off of other peoples work as your own.

Plagiarism is the copying or paraphrasing of other people's work or ideas without appropriate acknowledgement. This quiz tests your knowledge of the rules of referencing. Knowing these rules helps you avoid plagiarism. Choose the one or more best answers 3. You like the examples or illustrations several authors have used to prove a point and you want to pull them all together and use them in your own paper in a list. What ought you to do? (a) Examples used to prove a point are managed a little differently than opinions, ideas, or facts. These are treated the same way we would treat common knowledge, and not referenced. (b) Include a citation after each separate example to indicate where you found them. (c) Include them in one parenthetical citation or endnote after you have finished listing them. Give your short arguments: (C) we need their ideas thus we have to reference all of them. We have to reference the idea but not the example.

4. You have found an article on the Web in a foreign language, and you have either translated some passages from it yourself or used an on-line language translator such as Babelfish to translate it into English. By the time you whip it into good academic English no one would be able to trace it. What do you do? (a) Its the same as any other article and you have to cite it. (b) No one would ever be able to find out where you found your ideas. Forget about citing it. Give your short arguments: (A) thats actually interesting.. but cant bring any good attitude.. so we MUST use [translation] tag to sign that this phrase come from translated phrase.

5. You had a brilliant brainwave about the short story you are writing an essay about. But when reading an article about the short story, you see that the same idea is mentioned. It was your own idea too, so do you need to reference it? (a) Yes. Great minds think alike, but even if you did think of the idea on your own you still need to reference the published source. Otherwise, readers will accuse you of plagiarism. You can use this source to support your argument, and you can try to show how your idea differs from the other authors, but you still have to cite the other source. (b) No. If you come up with an idea on your own, you dont have to cite the other source. Give your short arguments:

6. What do you think is wrong, if anything, in the following passage from a student paper? In 1904 Matisse came under the influence of Signac's use of separated colours in his paintings. This was called "divisionism." As Spurling says: "Divisionism provided logical grounds for separating the ultimate goal of painting - order, harmony, emotional stability achieved through rhythmic compositions of form and colour from its traditional dependence on the subject. This was an important idea for Matisse. (a) I dont see anything wrong. The student used appropriate citation. (b) Although we can see where the student began to use information from another source, we have no idea when the students own thinking begins again. Give your short arguments: (B) this is clearly confusing we dont know when will the student will use their own idea because he/she not mention any citation.

7. Is the following example from a student paper a good illustration of how to use a quote? Gergely Nagy, in his article "Saving the Myths: The Re-creation of Mythology in Plato and Tolkien" talks about light and vision imagery as being a common thread in both authors' works, and suggests that they lead to "opportunity" (93) for many uses. (a) It is not a good illustration because the students choice of text for quotation is not an appropriate one. (b) It is fine, since it is correctly cited. Give your short arguments: (A) this is not a good illustration.. we must quote if the information is important and taken from an original author, but if the phrase/word isnt important like opportunity we DONT have to quote.

Test 3: Understanding of Academic Integrity To read the definitions of academic integrity, or visit the University of Guelphs calendars description of student rights and responsibilities as well as the section on offences and penalties. After you have familiarized yourself with the University of Guelphs rules and regulations, test your knowledge of the rules of academic integrity by taking our Academic Integrity test. After you have read the question and chosen the best answer you think is correct. A response will pop up, telling you whether you were right or wrong and explaining why. 1. There is a participation mark given in one of your tutorials, and an attendance sheet is passed around at each session. You can't make it today, and you ask your friend to sign in for you. (a) This is a case of impersonation which would be subject to a minimum penalty of an official warning at University of Guelphs? (b) This is a common practice and it is not considered to be academic misconduct. Give your short arguments: (A) this is no a good example.. as a student we need to attend the class and never miss the class unless there is something important

2. Last term, you wrote an essay which is slightly similar to the topic your professor has assigned this semester. Can you incorporate this paper into the paper you are now supposed to write without being accused of academic misconduct? (a) Yes you can if you talk to your professor first about it and s/he says that it is all right and puts that permission in writing. (b) Handing in the same paper (or large sections of the same paper) twice is always academic misconduct. (c) If you know that this particular professor usually allows students to do this, you can go ahead and use your earlier paper without worrying about it. Give your short arguments: (A) we have to get permission first from the prof. If he give us the permission then it sholud be okay. Because student are not allowed to submit twice the same work. 3. One of your courses has a series of modular quizzes on Web CT which students have to master before going on to the next stage. Several people in your residence are in the same class and you normally do the modules together. (a) University of Guelphs encourages collaboration as a way of learning, so that is what I'm doing. It's fine. (b) The university would consider this to be unauthorized cooperation or collaboration. Give your short arguments: (B) in academic matters if we want to do personal quiz we must not do it in a group unless we already told the prof that we are going to do the quiz together.

4. You are writing an exam and you notice that the person next to you can see your paper. What should you do? (a) Move your paper and place your arm so that your exam booklet is out of the person's line of vision. (b) Don't do anything; it's not your responsibility, and in addition, you can't afford to waste precious time when you could be answering questions. (c) Call an invigilator and inform on the other student. Give your short arguments: (A) this is the best way.. he can see and yet he will be tortured.. he needs to find the answer by himself

5. You have found some journal articles in the library, but you know that other students in the class will be wanting to use them too. You are afraid that if you don't get control of them now, you will never be able to get them again, but you have a job interview in half an hour and can't spend the time you need to copy all of the information. Is it such a big deal if you misplace those volumes on the shelves so that no one else will be able to find them before you return to do your research? (a) Everyone does this from time to time and this cannot be considered academic misconduct. (b) This is an offence because you are obstructing the scholarly activities of other students. Give your short arguments: (B) we have no right to move those volume from its original shelves,, everybody deserves to get the same knowledge. You need to be smart.. use it as stepping stone to write better articles.

3. Mahasiswa memiliki kompetensi didalam bidang penelitiannya.

Mengapa demikian? Berikan argumen logis saudara:

Judul: SISTEM PENDUKUNG KEPUTUSAN PEMILIHAN PENYEDIA LAYANAN MANUFACTURING, FABRICATION DAN GENERAL MACHINING DENGAN METODE ANP DAN TOPSIS (STUDY KASUS PT.
