THE REAL PROBLEM IN EDUCATION OF INDONESIA

I.

INTRODUCTION On page 1 paragraph 1 that discusses about the origin of language curriculum

development. There is a sentence written Teachers too invest a great deal of their energis into planning language course, preparing teaching material, and teaching their classes. Im interested to this sentence because based on my experience not all teacher invest their energies to do lesson plan and preparing teaching material before come into the classroom. II. DISCUSSION As we know that learning process is student learning activities through the efforts of teachers planned in selecting the learning material to enable the learning procces. To determine whether learning is effective or not, it can be seen through the learning activities. Therefore, teachers in implementing learning activities should know how to make the learning activities run well, achieve the objective of the learning expected and also be able to select and prepare appropriate teaching materials for students. It is suported by Harmer (1991 : 256) said that to be a best teacher, the teacher should be make a lesson plan on the subject that they teach that consist of the objective of learning, organize activities that they will be going to do and also selecting the material that suitable with the students. Based on my experience, I found that there were some teachers teach without using the lesson plan and didnt prepare their teaching material. First is about the teacher who teach without having a lesson plan. According to our current curriculum KTSP, the syllabus for each subject is developed by teacher referring to the competency standard that established by the goverment. Therefore, each teacher is expected to make lesson plan based on the syllabus. Based on my experience when I did my pre observation in my research, I found that there was a teacher who come to class without having a lesson plan. He is an english teacher at senior high school. He came to the class, asked the students homework that has been given in the previous meeting, started teaching

to the students without giving brainstorming about what material will be taught, explained the materials without any interaction and activities that involve students, and after giving explanation, the teacher asked the students to answer the question in the book. The objective of those teaching and learning procces can not be achieved because there is not activities that involve students. It is supported by Harmer (1991 : 56) said that to asses that teaching and learning procces has done well is by looking at the involvement of the student in the classroom by making them as a center of learning. Second is about teacher who doesnt prepare the teaching material. As we know that, the success of educational was determined by the availability of learning materials. Harmer (1991:260) said that as a teacher we have to know our students include their level in order we can select the material that suitable for their level. As a good teacher, the teacher should be read and master the learning materials before submission to the learning, and also select the material that appropriate the level of their students. The teaching materials should be prepared by teachers before implementing classroom learning. There is some unwanted problem if the teacher dont read the book and consider whether this book suitable for their student or not. Based on my experience, there is a real example of unwanted problem if the teacher doesnt prepare their material with well. This incident happened toward my cousins, she is a student in elemenry school who study science subject with the topic Develoment and Proliferation of living things. She asked to her father Dad, what is that called sperm? My teacher said that if the boys had pubberty, he can release sperm, i read in the book and in the book as well written it is. Her father was confused to answer her question and then said sperm is a fluid that discharge from the male genital, and she said oh,,,,so the male already pubberty when they were born because a small baby had urinated since they were babies. The incident would not have happened if the teachers really prepared material well and consider whether the material is in accordance with the level of student thinking or not. There are some other cases that occured because of the negligence of teacher in preparing and selecting the material. One of the cases occurs in Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi. The teachers found a picture which was considered vulgar for children in elementary school. The findings occurred in SDN 1 Sabilambo , where male and female naked is shown clearly in the book of art Subject. By present the 2013 curriculum is expected to provide fresh air to the parents of students who had been worrying toward book that is not worth to use in

learning because the wisdom of 2013 curriculum in the selection of teaching materials is the government will provide instructional materials for each level, from elementary level, junior high school, and senior high school. It was expected that the wisdom would anticipate unwanted incident is recur. III. CONCLUSSION In summary, as a good teacher we should be able to make and plan good learning objective accordance with our students so that learning can appear as we want well and fun and also achive the indicators. In addition, we as teachers have to be smart to select and prepare book or instructional materials that correspond to the level of our students.
