A lesson learnt in Science

'There is a shadow of science that never leaves society's sight, in all times of joy, in all times of blight........' Science, as many greats have quoted is undoubtedly man's greatest manifestation. Without its presence i wouldn't be able to reach out to you with my article through this social networking site, neither would i be able to freelance as i often do. It has given propriety, sobriety and shape to all things that are sane as well as insane. But coming to the distant pondering thought that is slowly chuckling around in my confused mind. How much have different facets of technology and science encrusted apart from each other? Watching all of the Rocky movies couldn't inspire me to get over this burning question of mine. There are many miniscule viewpoints or adjuncts that could be discussed under the aegis of this issue but i would abridge my writing to just one single index, the difference in the perception between a technologist and a scientist...something i experienced first hand and unabated. During my visit to IIPR recently, i felt a certain hiccup in the movement of basic scientific spirit in my own way. Basically, a field of work or an area of interest develops through thorough study, knowledge, sacrifice and genuine love for it. In our nation, there have been hundreds who have seldom knocked the doors of fame but have silently passed their invaluable knowledge through generations, not knowing that one day it would turn into obvious self destruction, which is unflinchingly honest in today terms, where a lot of scientific movements are rendered directionless. I, as a young technologist, am not in an amicable position to comment on this precarious largesse. it shall certainly come with time. But i will share with you my experience for once. Given a project to handle in my final semester, i arrived at the prestigious IIPR for guidance, while two simple channels of thoughts ran in like the wild tigers of Bengal 1. As a technologist, i was interested in the design and execution aspect of the project. As stated by my guide at my institute, it had to be a pure circumvention of possible measures to cope up with the production. The scientific part was yet to be established. A raw idea of the above project drew its landscapes and i was unsure of the implementation. 2. IIPR being a purely scientiic institute dedicated to the work of agriculture i had to watch my steps and carefullt draw a line between the engineering prelude and the seminal core interludewhich was directly related to it. In short, i was naive in my endeavor. After prior discussion with some of the respected scientists present in the associated department, obvious conclusions tore up my love for the synergy to my work. At one corner lay us, with our background of engineering and formulation...at the other corner lay people who whole-heartedly dedicated themselves to the cause in which i was possibly trying to take baby-steps in. Most of

the work plan of ours got bamboozled, our determination shattered, our sentiments hurt and our resolve weakened. The project was too short, according to them, and the basic declaration angered me that we were misguided, that the hypothesis and theory did not match.....And Shakespeare was playing 'Much Ado About Nothing' in my inoocent head.... A simple statement that touched me was given by an eminent principal scientist there was.. ''It is not their mistake that they are naive about the subject and its conclusion, its our shortcoming as a community that we cannot guide these raw minds into something progressive, that they are getting diverted towards pecuniary hierarchy and farther away from science. It is at this tender stage in which truth, love and dominance about the monstrous dominion has to be inculcated in them. Wasting this precious time, we would lose young talents, and in turn, lose the nation's beating heart one day, slowly but surely....'' Incomplete knowledge, laxity, complication in simple guidance, proper nurturing, and basic void of innate spirit are the vicarious causes that are causing this tumult of divergent views...Sciencemay you bless us all to always search the truth and not look anywhere else...Jai Hind...
